Measurements are stated in inches unless otherwise indicated. Size chart values represent body measurements, not garment measurements. Some women's pants are available in petite and tall sizes. Typically petite sizes fit women 4'11" to 5'3". Regular sizes fit women 5'4" to 5'8". Tall sizes fit women 5'9" to 5'11".
PETITE: Generally, as compared to regular sizes, petite sizes are 2.5 inches shorter in inseam, 1 inch shorter in body length, 1.25 inches shorter in sleeve length and ¾ inch shorter in total rise.
TALL: tall sizes are 3 inches longer in inseam, 2 inches longer in body length, 2.5 inches longer in sleeve length and 1.25 inches longer in total rise.
Capri or cropped pants have an intentionally shorter inseam—reference the technical specs instead of this chart.
Inseam is measured to the floor.

These pants changed my life?? I often feel excluded and judged shopping for outdoor gear. I wear a size 18 tall in pants and I have NEVER found hiking pants like this before! I had to size down to a 1X (!? also never happens!). Unbelievable stretch and although I haven’t taken them out on a trail yet I can tell they will be quite durable. Please offer us more colors! I’d love an olive green pair!
Bought these pants last year in 2XL/asphalt. They've held up very well, and I'm about to buy another pair. I'm 5' 7", 245#, waist 44", hip 52". I had to shorten them an inch, plus I bought an Arcade stretch belt to improve fit at the waist. Very comfortable and durable. I find they run a little warm, I'd recommend them mostly for temps below 80 degrees. I wear these pants for daytrips and boating, but they'd be good for walking, hiking, and other outdoor activities.
These pants have a lot of stretch - they will stretch out a bit as you wear them - but that's what makes them SO comfortable out on the trails. The waistband is great, I love the zip pockets and the material is really water resistant. Also, while these aren't truly insulated, the material has a nice soft feel on the inside which does add a little warmth in cold or cool weather. While these are great for hiking/camping, I also plan to use them for travel. My only complaint is that I wish REI made these in a 1x. These are a loose fit for me in the 2x, which only gets looser still as they stretch out. Also, it'd be great if REI offered another color or two. That said, I'm buying my second pair - that's how much I love these pants!
I read the other reviews for these pants and saw the review about the pants not staying snapped. I hoped the other reviewer received a defective pair or it wouldn’t happen to me. I tried them on and all seemed fine at first. They feel great and the draw string at the bottom allows me to keep them from dragging the ground. They were so comfortable that I decided I must wear them on the airplane on my vacation! I put them on and continued getting ready, then sat down to relax. Then when I stood up to leave for the airport, they unsnapped and partially unzipped on me. I found that odd, because they were not tight at all. I had to hurry up and find something else to wear to the airport. I returned the pants once I got back home.
I have bought 4 pairs of these pants and have them in every color (3 pairs of 3X and 1 pair of 2X, I am 5'5" and very curvy 280lbs). They are just the right amount of stretch they don't get slouchy looking after wearing them for a while, the right length (even at 5'5" I roll the hem once and they are perfect over hiking boots). I do a lot of hiking and wildlife photography and have put mine through some pretty rough terrain/situations and they held up perfectly well, no tears in any of them. They are BY FAR my favorite pants I own. In the late fall with long underwear or 40F degree muggy weather , they do the trick. I am super disappointed to see they are being discontinued. What will REI replace them with?
I really like these pants for hiking/camping and rainy days outside. They‘re warmer than jeans, but not hot so you can move around more comfortably in about 40-50 degree weather. The snap has popped open one time for me, but it has, for the most part, held my muffin top strictly in place. I like them so much that I’ll probably purchase another for my needs. I did throw them in the dryer and they shrank a touch, but they have some forgiving material and I’m able to stretch them back out. I rated it 4/5 as the snap did pop open on me, but only once so perhaps operator error? I am Apple-shaped and these fit me nicely, but if you have a pear shape you may have problems with snugness in the hip region.
I was looking to replace my Kornati Roll-Up pants (such great pants - WHY did you discontinue them???) and these were the closest thing I could find. They are as advertised - very stretchy which is great, good pockets, good material though I have not had these long enough to know how they will wear over time. They are a little thicker than I prefer for summer hiking, but that is a minor issue. The leg is also not as roomy as I would prefer. The gusseted knee and stretchy material help to ensure that movement isn't restricted, but they are quite form-fitting. My biggest complaint is the lack of a built in drawstring to adjust the fit at the waist. I ordered by hip size and they fit, but the waist is way to large. Us plus-size curvies vary widely in proportions - it would be great to see the same sort of adjustable waistband that the Kornati had added to all your plus-size active pants. It makes all the difference and would earn these another star.
These pants are made with an excellent quality material that feels wonderful, stretches beautifully as you move and drapes quite nicely. The workmanship is good. But the pants are a disaster because the snaps do not stay snapped. Even with the slightest pressure on them they open and the zipper unzips. I am sending them back. Because they have a soft elastic waist they would work fine without any snaps or zipper at all. As it is they are pretty much impossible to wear.
Long but with the ankle drawstring they still work for shorter women and look good too! Extremely comfortable - I would absolutely buy another pair if they had a second color. I agree they run slightly large - I am normally a 2X; 1X fit perfect.
So happy to have found these hiking pants. Will offer the perfect protection from trail debris, mud, rain & sun, while also being comfortable/breathable/moisture wicking. Smart design with lots of pockets. Great fit for plus size - slightly large for me, so I sized down (small waist/large hips).
