Used this pack on a few overnight trips and overall it's a great pack for groups and rentals. Seems to hold up well to regular use and has tons of options for storage including external, easy access water bottle holders and an expandable section for a rain jacket or helmet on the front of the pack. Adjustable hip belt and torso provides a wide variety of fit options without having to size up or down. Also comes with a rain cover so that's one less item to purchase. Compared to other packs at this price point the Amber has a lot of features that others don't. A great balance weight and durability. Definitely recommended!
Gregory kindly sent us the Amber55L to demo for our program. This pack was used on several backpacking trips, and received positive reviews. The material was sturdy, including the water bottle mesh pockets. The pack fit comfortably with well padded hip belts, which kept the pack from chafing on hip bones. The pack is on the tall side when fully loaded, so I did find it important to try to stuff heavy gear closer to the bottom of the pack. Overall, I found this pack was durable and comfortable, and it was a great fit for the outdoor recreation organization I work for!
I am really, really impressed. Just did a single night out with the family. This meant that I was carrying two sleeping bags, a tent, two sleeping pads, extra clothes (it was getting cold), water, and food supplies. I would say that pack weighed 35+ pounds. It handled this weight extraordinarily well. Extremely comfortable. Lots of room, lots of support. I can see taking this friend out for multiple nights. Added bonus: The price is great, and it is still under 4lbs.
I suffered over five months on the PCT with a pack that wouldn't stay up on my hips and put too much weight on my shoulders. I thought it was me that was the problem until I later borrowed a Stout 65 (2022) from my brother and it not only stayed up on my hips but balanced perfectly on my shoulders. It doesn't pull back on my shoulders even with the load lifters and shoulder straps just barely tightened. Once I realized that It was not me that was the problem I tried out over a dozen different backpacks but the Stout is the only pack that balances on my back with 30 pounds of weight in it. I can't figure out why this pack fits so well but it does. I just bought my own Stout 60 (2023) and it fits the same even though Gregory changed it slightly. I hope they don't change it too much down the road because it is the only pack that really fits me. I only wish it was a roll-top.
My son and I went on a 5-day fishing trip with a 10 mile hike in and out of camp. The main camp was about 200 yards away from the lake we fished from. We ate like kings every day with the trout we caught. We hiked in everything we needed that this bag supported and distributed all our gear perfectly. Highly recommend and we won’t be going hiking without ours. Ever!
I really like my new Amber pack and was thrilled to get the Stout for my partner! He'd been resistant to upgrade his old pack from his days as a scout, but I think will be quite please with all of the new features of this pack. Fits very comfortably and adjusts easily (which is great for when I borrow it from him to backpack with my brothers instead).
Love this pack. I am a female with a very short torso and none of the women's packs fit me well. Got a small in this Gregory pack and its fantastic. Took it to the Sawtooths on a multi day trip. We got a lot of rain and hiked 30 miles. Held up great and I really like the pack layout. Makes equipment easily accessible.
By day, I'm an outfitter and sell some high-end backpacks. My bag of choice, is the budget friendly Gregory - Stout 60. You get all the features of a more expensive pack, but a smaller pricetag. Fits like a glove. Great for beginners. Raincover included, which is rare these days.
Used for 3 days on Appalachian trail and the shoulder strap failed. Had to leave trail to find replacement. Weight was under the 50lb limit given on the website
