Great addition to my hammock set up
So happy to have found the Joey. I was looking for a place to stow my backpack and keep it off the ground. This was perfect for that purpose and really easy to hang. I found out my dog likes it too. She actually slept on top of my backpack in the Joey. Even without the backpack this is now her chill out spot at camp.
Super convenient
Very small and lightweight addition to my hammock camping setup. It was convenient to use as a clean surface to keep clothes and other items on while changing. I didn’t try retrieving anything from the sling while I was in my hammock, but I think it would be a little difficult to do without strategically placing items in the sling and remembering where they are, but that’s not an issue for me. It was roomy enough to fit my whole pack and everything I brought on the trail. It’s simple to set up and easy to adjust. Overall very pleased!
Joey Gear Sling
Great addition to the kit to keep items off the ground and dry. Heavier than the UL nylon used in the Mantis UL. 5 stars if it had a drawstring around the outside to better contain items to keep them from falling out
Keeps gear dry/handy when hammocki
Once I got the hang of how to position both the gear sling and my gear in the sling once hung, I really felt this was worth the extra 5 oz to keep my pack and shoes off of the ground and within reach. I wish the Joey had a couple of additional loops sewn in along both sides to allow for more options to secure items (it has one on each side in the center). I never use my hammock without my Joey.
Must have for hammock campers
This is a great, intuitive solution for gear storage in a hammock. I used this on a recent trip and was able to store a backpack, boots and a couple other small items in it, and have easy access to them. Easily clips into your suspension and keeps everything safely away from the ground and the moisture and slugs that come with it. Highly recommend.
Sling me!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Love it. Makes retrieving gear from under the rig so easy. Especially boots or Chacos in the mornings!
Works great, a much needed accessory!
After a few campouts with my Mantis it was clear that I needed something to store my gear, mostly my shoes when I take them off. It's plenty big enough to store a pack and keep it dry and off the ground.
Not great for larger packs, but kinda workable.
Eh... Don't have an abundance of experience with gear slings, but... seems as if the sides could come up a little higher. Because of how shallow the sides are, it doesn't permit my pack (Osprey Xenith 88) to lay on it's back for easy access from the hammock. In fact, I've never felt comfortable with gaining access from above as it feels as if in the process of flipping my pack around it'll fall out. Would probably work great for a smaller pack. So, overall I'm irritated that I have to get out of the hammock completely in order to get to my pack.
Thanks for reviewing the Joey Gear Sling! When hung underneath your hammock, you'll have easy access to your pack while hanging in your hammock. If you have any questions for us, feel free to reach out! We want to make sure you're 100% satisfied with your gear.
A logical solution
I used to lace up my boots and hang them over both sides of my Kammok at night, which pinched the Kammok together over my legs (as the boots slid further toward my midsection through the night). Annoying enough. As for my bag, I would either wrap it in a contractor bag or suspend it from a tree - often both - just to keep it off the ground at night. Enter Joey: I used the Joey when I first setup my Sunda (which, by design, wouldn't let me stow my boots the way I used to) and found I loved having this little shelf sit below me WAY MORE than I expected to. Construction quality is the usual Kammok masterwork I've come to expect, and it does look better than solutions from other brands (of course). Unless you're squeezing out every ounce on a through-hike, and maybe even then, I highly recommend packing a Joey gear sling for your next hang.
Great accessory.
I didn't even know Kammok made this product until I was surfing around the site one day. It's great for keeping my pack off the ground and out of run-off, while still keeping it sheltered from overhead, whereas hanging it i would still have to use the pack fly and hope for the best. Also good for the dog when it is too hot to have her in the hammock she can sleep in this and stay cool...although she is pushing the weight capacity now.
