Worked okay for some situations

The design is reasonably well thought out, and I really like the ball joint connection for a roof rack, but the angles don’t really work unless you’re in a wide open space. In the PNW with dense forest, most campsites just won’t accommodate a car width plus the 10-12 feet of this rack without obstructions of some kind. The angle of a rainfly/tarp on the car side is also a minor annoyance, as the car attachment is further in from where the tarp needs to be staked. But if you’re in the open desert or a beach, shouldn’t be an issue. The biggest problem was the legs, which seized immediately (first one then the other on successive trips) and couldn’t be extended or collapsed without tools or a ton of force. This added about an hour to each outing and I ended up returning.

Great but some quality control issues

I bought two of these, and have returned one because of poor quality control. There is a center bar that has male ends that have a, for lack of a better description spring pin the locks it in place. One of those was pushed so far into the bar that it was not in the correct place and I had no tool long enough to fish for it. The other issue was that even if it was in the right place the holes did not line up so that it could be used, making it able to shake loose. I did not wish to entrust my safety so it was returned. The other one however was fine. It is great. The roof rack attachment slide in rail mounts are too big for my prinsu rack. However the pancake mount fits around the prinsu cross bars, it's just not a clean look. I would say DO NOT have this standing on concrete, the legs need some friction. The triangle that supports the free standing side is plastic, hopefully very strong plastic, that the legs are attached to and they spread with weight on it. I am excited to use this and get the replacement for the poorly made one. I would set this up in the parking lot before leaving the store. You will need a size 4 and 5 allen wrnch and a 13mm wrench.

Agree with another that it is mixed

Picked this up as an alternative to a rooftop tent last summer. Let's face it, most of the time a rooftop tent is up their drowning your gas mileage unless you have a fancy lift in a garage. And even on times I'd use it, for some of us it's almost 700 miles of driving to get some place I'd want to use it. I like sleeping in my hammock tent but sometimes there aren't convenient trees or restrictions as to if you can put up a hammock. This thing popped up. If you're using it just for a day hammock, it's probably mostly going to work fine and be a full five stars. If you're going to use it for hammock camping, this is where issues start to pop up. First as someone else pointed out, it's not always going to be possible to find a campsite where you can deploy this thing perpendicular to your vehicle. And that will introduce issues with a fly if you think you're going to need one. The sides of the fly nearest the vehicle will take very creative guying if you actually want a taut fly. Second if you are using a tallish vehicle, the angle of the dangle needed to get a flat lay is enough that you might need a stool to get into your hammock. I've got a Forester. With the needed roof rack it makes it a bit more difficult than it should be to get in and out of. Outside of those issues, the upsides are that I can hammock camp with no trees and I don't have a big box on top of my car sucking extra gas as I drive 700-2000 miles across the country. Outside of guying the side of the fly closest to the car, set-up is a breeze. The short straps it comes with do the trick. The crossbar makes an excellent ridge line.
