Used this for rim to rim hike. Was convenient to throw in backpack, but did leak when it rained. Used stakes and all. Will give it another try before deciding if worth keeping.
I bought this tent many years ago. I've been using it on a solo hitchhiking journey from Europe to Tibet, on several small and big trips around the world. So far, it is one of the best items in my trip collection. It never let me down. Do not have any tear or broken element. I've never been wet or overheated. Moreover, It's HUGE inside. Try to find another ~2kg tent with such a great interior... Thank you EUREKA! I'm promoting your tent every time I have an opportunity. You saved my life in Mongolia, Croatia, Georgia and in many other places.
Like the tent for price. Weight is a little heavier than 4 lbs 3 ounce listed weight but that is somewhat typical with some tents. I love the easy setup and seems to hold up well
Very good tent for 2 persons, relatively light at about 4.5 pounds. Made a footprint out of tyvek that you can cut to size (tent is odd size). Very good ventilation. During heavy rains, stayed dry inside, however, you will want to push the water off occasionally. Used in the mountains with relatively heavy rains. Also used in winter during drizzle and freezing rain; was fine. Useful to enter/exit out either side.
I bought about 4 - 5 years ago. I love the tent but if Eureka made the fly sheet from a 5000hh material and used the same material on the floor in my humble opinion it would have been one of the best 2 man tents ever made. Its a shame its discontinued. ATB. Reeco
I've had this tent for several years and used it climbing the ADK 46 and the Northville Placid Trail. It fits two people comfortably with enough head and shoulder room. It's weight and pack size are great for what the tent has to offer. It has three major drawbacks: 1 - It is a tension tent and requires all stake points to stand up. Usually this isn't an issue, but on hard-packed or rocky ground, it can be difficult to set the tent up exactly where you want it. 2 - There is no vestibule. The rain fly offers a few inches of space to place boots, but otherwise all gear needs to go inside the tent with you. Due to the tent's shape, there is space at the foot and head for gear, but it can become cramped quickly. 3 - The weatherproofing on the floor is terrible. There is no bathtub-like design; the floor fabric is not waterproof. With the short distance between rain fly and tent, there is little space to dissipate water. Even with a custom cut 3 mil plastic sheet footprint, the floor still gets damp in heavy rain. Overall, not a bad tent for its price, but there are better options out there.
I purchased the Spitfire 1 a few years back and really enjoyed that tent. As I got a little older, I enjoy a little more room in my tent. So, since I liked the Spitfire 1, I figured I would go with the Spitfire 2. Glad I did. Roomy and lightweight. Identical to the 1, just larger. Perfect for solo packing, plenty of room to put your pack inside the tent with you. Neither the 1 or the 2 have a vestibule, so if you are looking for a tent with a vestibule, the Spitfire is not for you. The Spitfire 2 has 2 doors as well, and the fly zips open on both sides. The only thing that I had to do, was seam tape the stitching at the stake points. One trip out, we got a good amount of rain, and the stitching did leak at the stake points. After seam tape and seam sealer on all of the seams, it is good to go. I figured for the money and with Eurekas reputation, the seams would have already been seam sealed/taped! I also seam sealed/taped the fly at the stitching/guy rope points. Also, the rain fly only came with 2 guy lines, and there are 4 guy points on it. A little 550 cord fixed that issue. If the tent would have came with the seals/stitching points seam sealed/taped and the proper amount of guy lines, I would have given this tent 5 stars.
Thank you for taking the time to write your review, very much appreciated! I'm happy to hear the Spitfire 2 is withholding the Eureka reputation and expectations as it did for you on the Spitfire 1 tent. I understand your comments on the seam taping and the guy points. With most of our newer tents, all the necessary seams are seam taped and just needs normal maintenance as time progresses. The seams you are referring to on the Spitfire are unable to be factory taped as the factory taping is applied prior to the final stitching on these seams, therefore seam sealing prior to use is recommended. The instructions outline the seam sealing process, but in your defense, does not specify the exact seams to seal. This is something we need to consider changing for the near future. In regards to the guy ropes. The tent does offer 4 guy out points, we currently provide 2 guy lines as you mentioned. Depending on the type of camping you are doing (terrain and weather), not all guy out points are needed for each camping session so we currently provide the 2. However, in both comments, well noted and I will pass the feedback to our Product Management team! Thank you again and thank you for being a loyal Eureka customer!
Purchased this tent a few months ago for a camping trip, I neglected to do an initial setup before we headed out to the campsite so i was a bit nervous about how well it would go since the tent requires staking to stay up and this was my first tent of this kind. Was pleasantly surprised at how smoothly everything went, all of the setup was pretty intuitive and after a quick glance at the instructions i was able to pitch my tent in no time (faster than a 2 person team that I was camping with). As far as I can tell the tent is reasonably durable and had no issues with rips or holes, even having it on bare ground without a footprint. The weather was 112 degrees which is where the spitfire really shines. practically the entire tent is mesh and properly shaded made for a (relatively) cool retreat from the furnace outside with the cross breeze that the design allows. This was especially helpful at night and made for good sleeping. The other nice thing about the tent is that it is very easy to reposition, simply unstake and drag to a nearby site and restake. Only thing I was disappointed in is the lack of footprint available for it. Great job and thanks for helping to make my camping trip a great experience!
