I tested the NEMO Dragonfly 1p in three different conditions: initial set up in my living room, backpacking overnight in dry conditions, and in my backyard in rainy conditions. I backpack a longer trail every summer between 150-250 miles along with many weekenders. I found the following pros and cons of this tent: Pros: - pretty lightweight for a free-standing tent - very easy and intuitive to pitch and pack up - decent floor and headspace for 1-person tent (I'm 5'4" and this has ~1ft more space above my head while sitting) -ample vestibule space in front of the door to shelter your pack - water evaporates quickly after raining - lightweight stuff sacks that allow you to store part of tent (like poles) on outside of pack if needed - uses recycled fabric and the brand has strong sustainability goals Cons: - on the side of the tent without the door, the mesh cuts down to a point where the fly doesn't have much vertical overhang (fly is shorter on this side). I tested this tent in heavy rain/no wind conditions and the floor of the tent remained totally dry; however, I am not sure I would bring this tent in rainy, windy conditions. I can imagine wind with heavy rain will end up in the tent just because the lack of much overlap. - the top, short cross pole sets directly on top of the longitudinal poles. I am concerned about long-term friction breaking the pole. It should have a basic separator between cross poles. - cheap, heavy stakes included. Definitely swap them out for lightweight ones to save weight. I can imagine this tent is best suited for those who want to backpack up to a few days and can predict good weather or only drizzle. I would not take this on longer trails with regular evening thunderstorms and hail (like John Muir trail) which is unfortunately the purpose of making a tent with this hybrid fabric.

Sturdy, not waterproof.

The tent feels roomy and the vestibule is large. What the photos do not show is that on the non-vestibule side, there's a gap between the water-resistant tent material and the fly. It's "nothing but net." The tent material is not waterproof, so where the fly doesn't cover the tent, water weeps through. It's worst at the head end, where there's little fly coverage and rain and runoff from the fly soak through rather quickly. The cover of the fly zipper flops into the zipper as soon as it's damp. The OSMO fabric dries quickly. The poles are sturdy and setup is easy, except for the micro-size velcro. The tieback for the fly flap is too low and the flap usually falls right out. If you're willing to waterproof the tent, cover the gap, add to the velcro tabs, and add a tie-back for the flap, you'll have a good tent. You might want to pop the decorative caps off the pole junctions in case you need to fix the center pole in the field.

Really great bikepacking tent

This has been a great bike packing tent for me. The size and weight are really exceptional, and the tent is very easy to setup by yourself with the single pole design and the snap-in anchors. I would not recommend using this tent in colder temperatures (<30 F at night), since there are no covers for the mesh on the tent. It is really great in warmer weather and breathes very nicely with the rain cover on. Biggest highlight for me on a tent this size and weight is the great overhead height and dedicated storage. I can squat comfortably in this tent, and having three pouches for storage is a huge plus to stay organized when bike packing. Being on the shorter side (5' 8"), I also have about a foot of additional storage space at the bottom of the tent.

Feature Rich and So Lightweight!

This tent is amazing! First, the small packed size and light weight are so impressive without sacrificing tent space or durability. It’s got to be half the packed size of my previous 1P backpacking tent. Nemo touts this OSMO fabric as the latest and greatest, and after testing multiple times in varying conditions, I have no complaints. The features of this tent are what really set it apart though. Single person setup is a breeze, with clickable connector points and just the right amount of adjustability and comfort features. The single body pole is easy to configure and then there is one small pole across the top to add head room. Inside is roomy, with plenty of space for even a large car-camping style mattress. You can sit up and move around in it, and there are so many well-designed interior pockets! The fly design offers substantially more vestibule room than a standard single-point A-line style which is important for a small tent like this. There is a cool feature at the top of the fly zipper where you can pop open the flap and leave a protected opening in the zipper to let condensation escape and improve airflow. I’m sure I’m forgetting other awesome features too because it’s just packed with subtle great ideas. Hats off to Nemo for this one. Highly recommend purchasing the footprint for this tent too for added protection from the elements.

Really cool tent!

This tent is really awesome! I tend to have an issue with the length of single person tents as I am 6’ 2” and my toes are often times pressed against the wall of the tent. Because the walls at the head and foot are nearly vertical on this tent, there wasn’t an issue with the toes touching and it fit my long thermarest trail pro with no problem. There was also plenty of space to sit upright in the tent with headroom to spare. There were plenty of loops for guy lines and little hooks for rolling up the door flaps when not in use. There definitely isn’t room interior for keeping your pack but there is just enough under the awning for one but not much else. The directions for assembly are a bit lackluster, however all the poles, clips, and straps are color coded so assembly was pretty intuitive. It came with a pole splint and a couple tear aid patches and the tent stakes are good quality and lightweight. I usually camp with a bivy so this is considerably larger but altogether it doesn’t take up too much room in the pack and if I separate the poles and carry them externally it’s actually about the same size as my bivy. Packing the tent back up was pretty easy (took two tries to get it right but that was my own fault) and I was able to fit the footprint in the bag with the rest of the tent. Unfortunately I didn’t have a banana for scale but I included a picture with some other common camping items to give a rough idea on how big it is. I received these products for free from the REI Trailblazers sampling program in exchange for my honest review.

Perfect UL tent for my requirements

This is my second UL tent. My beloved hornet 2p was purchased, after extensive research, for a solonsection hike in Maine (100 mile wilderness to Caratunk) I love the tiny footprint of the hornet; weight is negligible, incredibly storm-worthy (once I figured out proper setup and placement) After about 6 years, she’s still going strong- minus a few claw marks (I travel with my adventure cat) I really wanted something a bit more spacious. I decided on the Dragonfly OSMO and I must say I love the fly fabric. It feels very substantial compared to the original. She’s incredibly spacious with 2 gear lofts at the foot end, two cell phone pockets at the head end, and two headlamp pouches above the head at each side with diffusers. There’s a snap at the very top in the middle of the tent for a lantern or some such ( I snapped my fairy lights into this for extra ambiance in the winter months) The height is excellent. I’m 5’9 and it really feels like a palace compacted to my hornet, height-wise. There are a ton of guy out points, making it incredibly sturdy in high winds, and the vestibule tie outs are great; not quite as intuitive as those in my hornet but once I figured them out, all was well. Because of the stiffer fabric it sheds water and dries MUCH more quickly than my non osmo Hornet, and there was no slimy handfeel after the first rainfall. There’s one spot in the middle of the rainfly that can be used for venting, but I haven’t used that yet, as it’s still quite chilly at night. There’s also a gap in the Velcro there, which I would prefer didn’t exist. I wish the vents were at the top of the rainfly instead. Otherwise love everything about it so far.

Excellent Ultralight Tent

The NEMO Dragonfly is one of the best ultralight tents on the market in my opinion. While it isnt the lightest tent on the market I believe it offers the best blend of pack size, weight, comfort and durability out there in the UL market. On the interior, the taper adds a lot of room near your torso which makes it feel a bit less closterphobic. It also offers excellent head room. At 5'10 i still have several inches above me. Didnt feel cramped at all, although i do not think this is a tent youd want to consider trying to bring a dog or child into. Its truly a 1 person tent. While sparse on pockets like most UL tents it offers a spot to put a light in the ceiling, one big mesh pocket and a handy phone pocket, which should be enough space. It also fits an XL thermarest xtherm with some room to spare for reference. On the outside, the fly provides good rain protection. It is the bare minimum size to save weight. This means you really only get one exit and one vestibule. Thats just part of the compromise needed to keep weight and size down and is normal in the UL space. The vestibule seemed big enough to store a normal 50L pack. Assembly was a breeze, as is the case with most newer tents. The connections to the poles and the connection of the fly are really well thought out to both provide a secure connection and keep weight down. On the subject of assembly, it is worth noting that this is not a completely freestanding tent. This means that it needs to be stretched out and staked down to get the full interior space. Thst being said you could get by in a pinch if you couldnt stake all 4 corners down for whatever reason. The interior would just be more cramped. The stakes provided are of very high quality and a lot better than the basic steel ones. Durability is maybe the only concern on this tent. While it does not necessarily concern me and it is reasonably thick given its weight, it is a tent that you are going to want to take care of. This is not an 80D fabric car camp tent that can take a ton of abuse. The tent floor and fly is thin. I wouldnt want a dog in or near it out of concern it would tear it and id recommend being careful handling it to extend its life. Overall I find this to be an excellent and extremely well thought out 1 person tent. Without a doubt one of, if not the best option on the market in my opinion. I have the 2P version as well and it is also excellent and has held up to countless backpacking trips. If you are in the market for an ultralight 1P tent and this is in your budget I would not hesitate to buy one.

Dragonfly OSMO 1P tent-Great purchase

The Nemo dragonfly 1P tent is exceptional! It is still very roomy for it being a 1P tent. It kept me completely dry in hurricane weather, held up during a hail storm and actually kept me cool in the summer heat. It’s ultralight and packs up easily.

Well made and light

I have the 1 person and the 3 person tent. I love the balance between durability and weight. I've used them in the snow, rain, and moderate conditions. The guy lines are positioned in places to improve win resistance and shedding rain. The one person tent is susceptible to rain inside the tent if there are high winds. The bottom of my bag got wet during a storm, but not too bad. The three person tent works great for 2 adults and extra gear. It has much better coverage than the one person tent. The rain fly covers the majority of the tent and has a good sized vestibule on each side. Setting up and taking the tents down is easy. The corners are color coded to make attaching the rain fly easy. The rain fly attaches to the poles and that keeps it off the body of the tent. Temps got below 32F on a couple outings and it worked fine in the snow with enough of a snow bank. Packing it in my backpack works great and it can fit on the outside or inside of the pack. It's easy to split with a partner or carry it on my own.

You might want to pop the decorative caps off the pole junctions in case you need to fix the center pole in the field.

Phenomenal tent, and well thought out piece of kit

I couldn't even tell you how many tents i've owned in my life. But I can certainly say this tent ranks right up there at the very top in terms of quality, function, ease of setup, and weight. I took this tent backpacking for three nights with my son, camped at 11,600' in patchy snow (high mountains still have some here in CO). I was impressed by how quick the setup was, both the tent itself, as well as the rainfly. All was very intuitive. I was impressed by the interior features that are always sorely needed - small mesh pouches for a headlamp to create a nightlight, and overhead mesh pouch for random items - each tucked away almost seamlessly into the interior design. The tent ventilated well, without being too windy - and it was windy and cold up there. Seemed to handle the wind well structurally - in that sole instance i give the wind nod to my hunting tent, but its a 4-season, and burly - and HEAVY. Carrying this tent to high-altitude dropped almost 4 pounds from my pack, compared to my "next best" tent i own. Just overall I couldn't recommend this tent enough. I'm looking forward to the next trip!
