Mountain Hardwear  Mineral King 3 Tent with Footprint

Been using this tent for a few years and have used it for both car camping and while backpacking on the AT and in Dolly Sods. It’s the perfect size for 2 people and their gear. The vestibule is large and can help keep packs out of the weather if you want to sleep 3. The construction and quality are great. The mesh is durable and this is really easy to put up and take down. The footprint is perfect but we’ve also used a tarp in its place when we forgot the footprint at home. The tent isn’t light so can be nice to split up the material in 2 packs. It’s been very durable. Used this in the summer; fall and winter with no issues. Great size for what it is, durable, and made well.

This is my first tent for car camping. I'm over 6'0 and wanted a little extra room for more than just an air mattress and myself. I went with it based on the quality reasons and thus far, it's holding up nicely. The fly has kept the inside dry but I'll randomly have moisture built up on the basin under an air mattress. A drawback for me ia the mesh is 'too good' for warmer / hot temps - it doesn't let much air through and I find it an easy 5-10 degrees cooler on the outside. This may be great for colder weather camping but not summer.

This tent was a replacement for a 20+ year old tent that was no longer shed rain. I couldn’t be happier with this tent. It held up beautifully through a 3-hour thunderstorm that included an interval of marble-sized hail. The 3-person size was perfect for 10 days of solo camping. All of my gear fit comfortably inside the tent.

I’m in my late 50s and travel solo. The prior model of this tent is the second tent I bought when I decided to try camping again two years ago. I wasn’t sure I could physically manage sleeping in a tent, so I started with a 14lb tent with a huge vestibule I could stand up in when I needed to change clothes. I quickly discovered I didn’t like pitching such a big tent or moving it around because of the weight. So I bought this tent. I chose the three person rather than the two person so it would have a taller peak height. I love this tent, and it’s the one I use the most. It went through a torrential downpour with strong wind gusts that literally flooded the area I was in. Fortunately, I had pitched it on high enough ground that the tent didn’t flood, and everything in my tent stayed dry. The fly protected everything inside, and I had been careful to fully guy out the tent, so it stood up to the winds and the constant, heavy rain that hit it for an hour or two. That gives me confidence if I know there might be rough weather on a trip, and I like that peace of mind. I now own smaller tents as I’ve discovered I’m comfortable in those too, and sometimes I don’t want the size and weight of this tent. If I’m just staying one night, I’d rather not deal with pitching this tent. Being alone, it is a little more challenging to manage because of its size, though nothing onerous. But sometimes I just want something small, light, and easy to pitch alone. If I’m planning to stay at least three nights and don’t have a long carry to a walk in site, this is the tent I use every time, however. Now that I have a couple of smaller tents, including an ultralight two person, this tent feels like a luxury. Sometimes I wonder if I should trade down to the two person as I now know I’d be quite comfortable in that. It’s nice to have smaller tents that fit easily into smaller campsites. So perhaps when this tent wears out someday, I’ll switch to a two person. However, I think that day is a long way off as this tent is holding up nicely so far, and I take good care of it. Then again, having this three person as one of my tents is a welcome option. I do like having the space inside, but I have no desire to switch to one of the tents I see other people using that are big enough to stand up and walk around in. I keep hearing stories of leaky tents, or frustrations when trying to figure out how to pitch. I do understand wanting that, and maybe someday I’ll find I need that too. But for now, this works for me. I do camp with a small, foldable step stool that I keep in the vestibule. It makes it much easier for an older, stiffer body to get in and out of the tent as I transition to sit on the stool to help with entering or exiting the tent. It also gives me a place to sit so I don’t have to get on my knees if I just need to reach into the tent to grab something. In any case, this tent has given me a good impression of Mountain Hardware, and I definitely recommend this tent, or checking out one of their others.

This is my new car camping tent- it’s meant to replace my marmot abode that up and died after 12ish years of faithful duty. I’ve used this tent a total of one time, but what I like so far is its ease of set up and tear down. I’m all about camping efficiency and this hits the head on that nail. Packing it up was straightforward to. My only concern/conplaint/unknown is how the shape of the doors differ, and whether or not I’ll like that in the long run. It seems easier to leave small gaps for bugs to get in, but it could be I’m not used to this door geometry yet. All in all I would tell past Andrew that this is definitely a good replacement for his tried and true trusty previous go to.

The tent is well designed, well made and easy to set up. However, there are incomplete instructions, consisting of a few vague illustrations. There were no specific instructions for setting up extra guylines or venting the fly. It would be helpful to include lines to stake out the fly sides using the sewn-in loops, and include enough stakes. The vertical walls are roomy and there are good interior pockets. The 3-person tent is a bit heavy but good for canoe camping or short backpacking trips. Overall, we are pleased with the tent and plan to use it for years.

Great little car camping/backpacking tent. Love the inside space just enough for my wife, toddler and me. Not much leftover inside for gear with the 3 of us but the vestibules are large. Pretty heavy for backpacking but if it’s a short hike you could use it. It’s a little smaller than I expected but for what we needed it’s perfect! A compact car camping tent. Would also be great for a paddling trip. As always with MH quality is 100% nothing to say there. Also, the mesh and roll up fly are clutch for starry nights!

Good size for 2 people. Camped in Canada for 5 nights and temps got into the 20s*F. Easy to setup and super sturdy. Rained for a couple days and the inside stayed 100% dry. The included footprint is great. No complaints. Great tent.

We love the tent , spacious for the two of us, and the view is amazing when the rain fly is half way , sleeping under the stars . We use mostly for car camping , and been very happy with the mineral king 3.

Super easy to set up. Love the doors on both sides, and the vestibules created by the fly. Bought it for car camping just for one, and I appreciate being able to have my bag of clothes and other items inside with me. Useful pockets and hooks on the inside of the tent. Very pleased with it.
