Rated 1 out of 5 by from Design Defect - Get the one with the split key Purchased this during the anniversary sale. Initial one after setting up the L bolt was more of the shape of a J bolt and appeared to be a repackaged unit. After a couple of sessions noticed tire slippage and returned it. A new exchange definitely showed a new unit with a properly shaped L bolt. Unit has worked okay for the first couple of weeks but the L bolt soon turned into the shape of a J Bolt. Have since returned it. After watching GPLama's CycleOps Magnus Unboxing and Setup YouTube video, it is apparent CycleOps have since updated the design with a new L bolt and split key. Be weary of which purchase you make.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Closed-Loop Feedback Trainer Using it wth the Zwift app is awesome and a lot of fun. For me it is just another weapon to use in the arsenal against winter indoor training boredom, in addition to riding a static trainer with a group or the usual core workouts. I am glad I chose the Magnus over the Hammer trainer. The Hammer, although a terrific product itself, probably gives a little bit better workout due to the flywheel based system, did not work for me as it is too heavy to transport on a regular basis for my indoor trainer group workouts during the weeknights. Plus I don't have to get rid of my existing carry bag which I had bought for my Fluid2 trainer, since the form factors are the same.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from best cost effective durable smart trainer, Zwift compatible Have used it 20 or so times in the last 3 months for rides from 30 minutes to 2 hours. Reasonably priced and well featured smart trainer. Works seamlessly with Zwift which provides a great selection of workouts by difficultly and length. One can do distance, speed work, climbing and interval training. The dynamic variable smart magneto resistance is realistic and responsive. Peak power handling is well north of 600 watts. My rides typically average 250 to 300 watts. Well built and easy to calibrate. Wattage measurements are consistent from ride to ride provided tire inflation pressure is kept relatively constant

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Poor support I honestly haven't used the trainer itself yet, but the lack of documentation isn't a great start. Luckily I'm fairly tech savvy, and once you figure out which app is theirs, it's not horrible. But you do have to use powertap's version of the app for updates (confusing). Also, I emailed them about ensuring I was looking at the right through axle adapter, and the response I got was basically, "talk to the bike manufacturer, we don't know." Really? The Roubaix is a fairly popular road bike, and you don't know if it'll work with your smart trainer? I'm actually contemplating taking it back and going with Kinetic.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Upgraded from the Cycleops Fluid 2 When the Magnus was introduced I decided to upgrade from my old Fluid 2 and was not disappointed. I loved my Fluid 2 however, with the advent of interactive capabilities on the market it was time to make the leap. The ability to use the various platforms such as Zwift, has made hours of monotonous miles much more fun and meaningful. It was the quality of my old Cycleops Fluid 2 that led me to buy another Cycleops product but after months of use I have found that the Magnus is a sturdy, well-built machine that delivers much more realistic ride capabilities than previous models and it does indeed make riding the trainer way more fun!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Bit Of Kit Suffer from arthritis in hip so use it to keep supple and to loose some weight as very over weight. Had bit of trouble calibrating unit as use with ZWift and ZWift calibrated would not complete calibration so had to use Cycleops app Rouvy to calibrate and work first time. A only bind is that have paid for ZWift and prefer it to Rouvy for ridding but if I need to keep useing Rouvy to recalibrate trainer every month as suggested may need to pay for Rouvy which is a cost do not want. Looking through forums allot of people are haveing same problem with recalibration useing ZWift and as yet do not think there is a fix for it other than useing another app like Rouvy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Trainer by a Great Company Title says it all, this trainer is great. It is extremely stable and very obvious that there were no shortcuts taken in creating the parts, which shows with the Cycleops Lifetime Warranty. The only gripe I have with using this trainer so far is the calibration can be fidgety sometimes (not really the trainer but more the Cycleops virtual training app), you have to maintain a speed around 20 mph but if you are calibrating it because the resistance is larger than the trainer believes it to be this can be like trying to go 20 mph up a large steep climb. TLDR: this trainer is great and will get you through winter after winter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No regrets I'm new to smart trainers, not new to hating riding indoors on various implements of pain through many years. I could not be more pleased with my cycleops magnus. I'm sure the direct drives are nice, but so is riding outside. If I'm stuck inside the magnus has proved over about 250 miles thus far that riding indoors doesn't have to suck or break the bank. Quality made product, made in America, and much (like 75% I think?) is sourced within 100 miles of Waterloo Wisconsin. There customer support is absolutely top notch as I had a glitch in my order process no fault of theirs, but they helped me without question work through it. Can't go wrong with this company or product.

Questions & Answers

What action has been taken to correct power output numbers. It appears to be a very nice trainer and I would like to have it if the price were better. Is there a Cycleops or youtube video that explains calibration and general use? Why should I buy?

Asked by: wsparhawk
This trainer is Powertuned using Powertap technology for +/- 5% accurate power readings; we were unfortunately unable to find a video on the vendor site that explains calibration.
