Rated 4 out of 5 by from The flint fell off. It still starts fires. The flint fell off mine. The flint is held to the magnesium bar by simple glue. If you apply too much pressure it will break off. I would have liked to see the flint partially integrated into the little loop chain so even if it did break off you don't think twice about it. However, given that it still starts fires, and you can re-attach the flint with a small piece of duct tape, I would still say that this accomplishes what it was designed to do, and the price is comparable to similar products.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Junk Tried a couple of flint strikes after removing from packaging....and the bar completely fell off the magnesium block. This is considered survival gear? Will I depend on this to save my life; no way. Purchase something else.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Shoddy The flint fell off the block as soon as I opened the package basically creating a three piece tool. Would be difficult to use. You could see where there was very little adhesive used. I had another that I had for years and had no issues.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy to start a fire Very thin magnesium shards. Makes the ignition very easy to start. You'll need a little more time to take it from the bar, but it worth the while.

How do you use it

Asked by: Wallace1
Using the included small saw, shave off pieces of magnesium onto a small pile of dry tinder. Run the non-serrated side of the saw over the flit until the sparks ignite the magnesium and tinder.

As has been explained by "Veterin", the ignition bar fell off the magnesium block. From experience, this has been an ongoing problem for many decades. Why doesn't the manufacturer do something about this problem???? Please explain. bluefinger.
