Yakima ShowCase 20

New ShowCase 20 is significantly quieter than the Skybox Series. It's a little heavier than the Skybox 21 but the ShowCase 20 is a much sturdier box. Absolutely no fish mouthing at higher speeds, lid opens and closes with ease using only one hand. The new push button to open much easier to operate and has less moving parts than the lever design. I have this mounted on Yakima Whispbar Model S56 using factory side rails. Happy with my purchase.

HUGE. EASY Install. Hinge/Latch/Lock is So-so.

We bought the Yakima ShowCase 20 for our 2017 Subaru Crosstrek. (The ShowCase 20 is replacing our ca. 2003 Yakima Space Booster / Rocket Box 11.) It is HUGE. If you're used to a 10-15 cu ft box, you will be floored by how much more stuff you can fit into this box. Our Subaru Crosstrek is rated for about 22 cu ft of storage space behind the rear seat, so adding this box essentially doubles our carrying capacity. This is going to be fantastic for snow and camping trips. Despite the size, we were able to mount it on our Crosstrek with NO interference with the rear hatch. In other words, with the ShowCase 20 in a reasonable fore/aft position, we can still completely open the rear car hatch. This is a big improvement over our old Space Booster 11! The new rack-mounting system is the biggest improvement over our 2003 version. An REI employee helped me to carry it out to the car, and I had it secured in 2-3 minutes. Really, you won't believe how easy it is to install or remove. Opening on both sides is a great plus, but it's far from perfect. The lock and the opening button seem to be very, very stiff and thus somewhat difficult to operate - at least on one side. Again, this may only be an issue on one side - but it's really not an easy, one-hand operation. Probably because I was able to handle the very-inconvenient, awkward latch system on our old SpaceBooster, I'm able to juggle the unlocking/opening procedure on the ShowCase 20, but I think that this will be impossible for my wife. There are two favorable outcomes, I think, regarding the latch/lock/opening difficulty: (a) This really is a defect, and Yakima/REI will replace this in the short term, or (b) the lock/latch will "break in" with time/use and become easier to operate. If either of these things happen, I would probably bump my rating from 3-3.5 to 4.5-5 stars.

3 strikes and you're out

Originally ordered one when they released the dividends back in early April. First one showed up with a 2 foot crack in the lid and they immediately reordered it. Second one showed up and had a 3 inch crack in the lid and they reordered it. Third one showed up and had a 3 inch crack in the lid. At that point I had to question the durability even if they managed to get me an undamaged one, so I returned it and took home a Skybox instead. REI was great, but Yakima needs to work on their flagship box's quality.

Great cargo carrier

My first experience using a rooftop cargo carrier. Very spacious and sturdy. Sharp looking too. Does create some wind noise but that’s probably expected.
