This product has a large faw besides the badly designed spring. The three supports that hold the rods in the box are too high and do not allow for enough space to close the top if the reels are not positioned correctly. Even if the reels are positioned correctly the bungy strap is not taught enough so the rods shift causing rash, broken eyelets, and lures to tangle, hook onto a rod, and scatch. The support seems to be designed for spinning rods where the reels hang lower but not so much for bait casters. I bought it to preserve my rods and create more storage space but has rashed up all of my reels and rods. Worst storage option I've tried in years.
Overall, this is a solid product and I'm pleased to have installed it in July, 2020. However, BOTH springs popped off their hinges during my first outage. Contacted Yakima customer service and they shipped out replacement hardware right away. However, it doesn't answer the spring integrity issue at all and now I have to wonder when or if the new springs will jump off track in the future. Good quality product and the locking mechanism is adequate. Would recommend this to others, but not without noting the spring concern.
Used the first time and the spring that holds the lid bent out of shape and fell off. Used a second time and the second spring bent and fell off. Contacted Yakima and they offered no assistance. The way this box attaches to the cross bar makes it very difficult to attach to the car and there is a hole underneath that runs the length of the bottom letting in water. I used waterproof black tape to cover the hole otherwise what ever you put in will get wet. Nice idea lousy product over priced.
I bought one and within a few weeks the springs that hold open the lid bent out of shape. Yakima replaced my box but once again after a few weeks the springs have bent out of shape and the lid doesn’t stay open anymore.
This deserves a better review and I am here to do it. Yakima has some great products and some products that fall short. If youw ant a roof box for conventional fishing rods then this is for you. The only downside to this box is the rubber inserts that go into the bottom of the box to close the gaps. However, i dont see the need for them. This thing is quiet ont he road for its size and hold 5-6 rods well withou tbeing crammed too tight. Its worth every penny for those that like to fish and drive a truck witha roof rack
