My wife and I bought this for ourselves for our anniversary for use camping & boating. We've only used it once for a weekend in our popup camper, but it was super nice and warm - you didn't want to get out of bed! It feels very thick over the top and wraps around you in all the right places, yet had plenty of room if you wanted your own space to sleep. The cowls around the pillow area is nice, as is the corner pockets for pulling it up close on cold Colorado nights. My only two very minor complaints are that the zipper is hard to access for quick-exits as it's almost underneath you, and, without pads inserted into the sleeves, the 'sheeting' tended to wrinkle-up a bit beneath you. Overall we love it!
My husband and I bought the Big Agnes Dream Island sleeping bag to use with our Exped Megamat Duo Sleeping Pad. Please note that the pad sleeve on this sleeping bag DOES NOT fit around the Exped Megamat Duo. However it works great on top of the sleeping pad and we had no issues with the bag sliding around on top. The sleeping bag is very comfortable and I love the extra features like the “snuggle” corners, soft interior that feels like normal sheets, and the pillow barns. It also keeps you feeling very warm/cozy with plenty of room for 2 individuals.
This bag could easily replace my actual bed. It is so cozy and snugly. The zippers are super heavy duty and haven't snagged at all. it is thoughtfully designed, with little open pockets in the pad sleeve so you can reach in and help guide the pads into position. There is a hand pocket under the comforter that is very useful and really adds to the "homey" vibe of this sleep system. This is a perfect bag for use as a secondary bed for visiting guests. Ideal for RV usage. My only issue with it is the size. It is obviously not designed to be minimalist. It is a big luxurious bag that is not meant for applications requiring smaller, lighter gear. Even with that in mind, this bag is so big that it's almost unwieldy. It takes a lot of room to get your pads inserted. It doesn't compress very much. Storage space is another consideration. If you have the room and want a home away from home, this is a fantastic bag.
I was given this sleeping bag as a gift prior to my employment at Honey Stinger, Big Agnes' sister company. This bag was the best wedding we got gift hands down! At 6'5" most sleeping bags are too small for my husband, but this one fits like a gem. Our dog who typically sleeps at the foot of our bed make herself cozy at the bottom of the bag. It is big enough for me to feel like I am in my own bag, but with the extra warmth and coziness of sleeping with my typical nighttime companions. It will fill your tent as it certainly isn't small, but well worth the trade off in comfort!
This bag is big! Like super big! To put it into scale using 8x5 pieces of paper it is two pieces of paper wide and two and a half pieces of paper tall when compressed. If you want to take this on a backcountry hiking trip at least one person will need to have this item as the sole item in their bag.
My wife and I bought this for an upcoming river trip and we gave it a test run in Moab. Like it says in the title above, it's ridiculous luxury. We wanted a double bag and since I need sleeping bags that accommodate my height we got the Dream Island. It's incredibly comfortable and you can easily regulate the heat with the side zipper. Before I bought it I spoke to a customer service person at Big Agnes and she told me (wisely) to consider getting 2 25" sleeping pads instead of 1 50" pad. Good call, I could flop around on my side without disturbing the sleeping beauty next to me. It also makes for an easier setup since you can stack the pads and pull the bag into place in the sleeve built for them. Since the bag relies on the pads for keeping you warm and doesn't have insulation on the bottom, it packs a little smaller than you think a bag this big would pack. Having said that, it takes up a lot of space even when it's in the stuff sack but it's ok, we're not hiking with it. Yup, there's room for the dog too.
I am amending my previous 4 star review to give this bag the 5 stars it deserves. I had previously knocked the Dream Island down a star because I didn't care for the taper from shoulders to footbox. I had previously used the bag laying on top of a larger pad that did not fit inside the integrated pad sleeve and felt that I had to hang one leg outside of the bag due to the narrowness of taper. I recently learned this was operator error on my part. My wife and I just spent 10 days camping in Yellowstone and Grand Teton sleeping in the Dream Island each night, this time using a large pad that was the correct width to fit inside the integrated pad sleeve and therefore using the bag in the manner it was designed for. The Dream Island just rocked. It was so comfortable and roomy. We had 4 nights with below freezing temps and were never cold inside the bag. I slept in my boxers, t-shirt and no socks. It was plenty warm. Getting out of the bag was definitely chilly, but inside the bag was toasty! The quilt like feel of the fabric us unmatched in any other bag.
I bought this after giving up on another brands double wide sleeping bag, I almost gave up on double wide bags completely but the Dream Island combined with the Hinman double wide pad is better than sleeping on my bed at home. The bag is really comfy but it takes sleeping in it once for the fabric to break in. The side access is really easy to get up without disturbing your partner. Also the adjustable hood is really comfortable and can be sealed up with the connection piece in the middle. And the pad sleeve/system doesn't allow you to end up sleep on the ground. Only point I'd note is on the Hinman double wide pad is to get the pad into the sleeping bag sleeve before it self inflates since it's a tight fit.
This sleeping bag has the best feel of any bag I've ever slept in. It has a quilt like construction that really allows you to wrap the cover around you. The interior cotton/polyester fabric is unique and feels much nicer than the nylon-y interior of most sleeping bags. Lots of nice little extras like the pillow sleeve and the top corner hand pockets to pull the cover over and tuck it tight. The only reason I am giving it 4 stars is that I didn't like the taper of the sleeping compartment at the bottom. The bag has an integrated pad sleeve that allows you to insert (2) 25" pads or (1) 50" pad underneath. The pad sleeve is fully rectangular out to 50" and I wish the bottom of the bag utilized the full width of the pad sleeve as there is extra space at the bottom where the bag tapers and the pad sleeve extends out to 50". I am guessing the taper of the bag is to increase the temperature rating but I felt like we either had to sleep REALLY close together, which is fine for a while, but when you're ready to sack out with a little space I felt sort of like my legs stayed half in, half out. The bag packs down reasonably well for a double bag but it's definitely a car camping bag and not feasible for backpacking. We've used it in temperatures in the mid-40's and slept very toasty.
Absolutely love this sleeping bag! I paired it with the Exped MegaMat (duo 10 regular) and it’s perfect. It is like bringing my entire bed with me on camping trips. I like the material of the sleeping bag, it doesn’t get sweaty where you’ll need to purchase a sleeping bag liner and there is plenty of moving space so you don’t feel like your strapped down trying to rollover. This is luxury camping and top quality that will take a little extra time to set up and put away but, for me, it has been worth it.
