I'm glad I used the shorts before writing a review
When I first tried these shorts on, I thought they felt more comfortable than any other shorts I'd ever worn (the material is fabulous!), despite them fitting more snugly around my thighs than shown in the product demonstration (does that model actually ride bikes regularly?). So I wore them on a casual 20-mile bike ride on a mostly flat path and was delighted with their comfort. That impression changed for the worse when I then wore them on a 100-mile ride with +5,000 ft elevation gain--the first day of a 6-day 400-mile ride. After about 2 miles into a climb, I noticed chafing on the sides of my crotch that worsened and worsened over time to the point where the discomfort ruined the experience. I had anticipated that I would wash the shorts at night and then wear them the next day because they had been so comfortable when I had worn them on the casual ride, but it's a good thing I brought other pairs because I simply couldn't wear them again without exacerbating the wounds that they had created. No other shorts did this. I think the problem is with the lining/padding, which doesn't cover the full crotch area and drops off at the sides (see arrow--this is where I had the wounds [which are still healing]). Maybe these shorts are comfortable for simple rides, but not for long rides with climbing--at least for me and my anatomy.
THE BEST bike short in existence
I was given a pair of these last year as a gift. For some stupid reason I never wore them, shoved them in the back of the closet and forgot about them. A month ago I found them, tried them on again, and went riding. OMG. They are perfect. They fit tight enough around the mid section to be comfortable, hold everything “together” and not ride up or fall down. Legs have plenty of room and don’t look like spandex. Length is just at my knee where I want it. The padding is fabulously comfortable. I can’t get over how awesome these are. Buy them.
Great shorts
i’ve had a pair of these for two years now, and they are fantastic. They have just the right amount of padding, without being over padded. And having both the length and the looseness at the bottom of the thighs means you can wear them all day, both on and off the bike. They are easy to wash; I put them inside out in the sun to dry and they’re ready to wear the next morning. The pocket us well placed and holds a lot. I generally wear only wool cycling gear — the Ibex El Fito knickers are still my favorite, but Ibex is now defunct — but these are great for summer.
Finally, comfortable shorts for women!
I have been looking for a pair of bike shorts that are longer and more like normal shorts for a LONG time. Great fit, looser leg and comfortable fabric. I have used these on century rides, and also when I do not want to wear spandex (yuck!) These stretch, don't ride up and breath so my crotch doesn't get soaked. A MUCH better choice for road biking than the mountain bike shorts that I thought were my only choice. Padding is minimal, more like triathlon type padding, and that is perfect for me, no diaper feel!
Just what I was looking for
These are longer - hit right at the knee for me and I am 5'6". They are also slightly loose and flared at the bottom. I felt like a sausage in my old bike shorts so these are a welcome change. Great for those of us with aging or less than perfect bodies that do not want every fold, roll, or crinkle highlighted. Padding is good too.
The best cycling shorts I have ever worn
I bought the cycling shorts because of the length and the loose fit. I could not have made a better purchase. The fit is perfect, and even after a 2.5 hr. ride, I was comfortable where before, an hour into a ride and my rear was already getting uncomfortable. I love them and recommend them to every female cyclist.
Comfort and sizing is spot on
I recently got back into cycling after many years due to many relocations. I purchased a Cannondale from REI this month, which was an outstanding experience. So easy. I wanted a bike short that was not the tight standard fit but more of a cargo or bermuda short. Looser clothing is more comfortable in the hot sun and temps here in the Keys. Since being in lock down over the spring, I have jumped a dress size from 10 to 12 at 5'6" (as have many of my neighbors!). I ordered a large in the Terry Liberty short so they wouldn't be too suffocating. The large in the Terry was perfect. If I go back to a size 8, they will still be comfortable. I wouldn't mind if they get a bit baggy. They fall above the knee as pictured and fit about the same. However, the waist is higher than the picture which is more comfortable to ride in. Since the fabric is stretch throughout, it is a tad heavier than expected. I highly recommend this short if you are on the fence about sizing. I find them super comfortable with more than adequate padding. I would buy these in khaki or white if REI carried them.
Comfy biking shorts
Have been biking with these shorts. They suit me much better than the tight spandex ones. Don't ride up. Crotch chamois very good and thick. Wash well. Have used them for the last 5 bike rides, so time will tell to see how well they wear. I hand wash them.
Best bike short ever
I'm in my 50's and don't want a tight bike short. These fit perfect, they were comfortable and flattering. The fabric was stretchy and the side pocket easily fit my phone and my wallet for when we went into a store. We did a 2 week trip where we spent around 5 to 6 hours in the saddle every day and these shorts were comfortable all day. They had just the right amount of padding, not so much that I felt like I was wearing a diaper, but enough to help. Near the end of the trip I threw the other bike shorts I had brought in the trash and ordered another pair of these when I got home.
Comfortable, fast-drying bike short
These were my first bike shorts and I chose them because of the longer length and loose leg opening. I wear them mountain biking/trail riding on rides ranging from 8-20 miles. They provide a good amount of padding and have worn well over the 200 miles I've ridden in them. The large, zippered pocket is handy. They dry quickly and are ready to go for another ride the day after washing. I'm 5 ft 2, 27' waist and got a size small, which feels comfortable.
