Camp Chair

Hi. I've bought this for camping after long research. It is a good camp chair. Easy to assemble, easy to disassemble. I've put 4 stars out of 5 because I think sunset is better (from my point of view). I notice it only once receive 2 chairs. I wish I buy Helinox sunset chair which is a little bit bigger. Please consider this when buy. It might be weight is more critical for you. If not buy Sunset chair. Check out dimensions - extra 15 cm Height is worth 115 g i think. Camp chair: Width 22in/56cm Depth 23.6in/60cm Height 32.7in/83cm Packed Weight 2.9lb/1335g Case Dimensions 19.7"x4.5"x5.5" vs Sunset chair: Width 22.8in/58cm Depth 27.6in/70cm Height 38.6in/98cm Packed Weight 3.2lb/1450g Case Dimensions 18.5"x4.7"x5.5"

Feet sink into ground - 2-1/2 Stars

I find the chair surprisingly comfortable, and the packed size is good. It does sit a little low t the ground, but oh so much better than sitting on the ground! The issue I have had is the feet sinking into the ground. I've used it on a variety of surfaces & it's great on firmly packed surfaces. Not so good on sandy ground, or ground that's even a little bit soft. After my first or second camping trip, I found one of the seat poles bent because of the shifting load when sinking. Great customer service from Helinox, offered to repair if I sent it in, but I was in a hurry with another trip coming up. I offered to fix it myself if they sent me the part. I sent a photo of the entire frame and of the bent part, so that they could be sure to send me the correct part. What I received was a length of tubing the correct size and length, but was a mismatch black color and material, & clearly "hand cut" and not "factory" looking. Besides that, it fits and works well. This chair would be much improved with some larger surface area Feet

Well worth the price

The price is high, but well worth it. I'm 6-1, 180 and this is the most comfortable, stable camp chair I've owned (I've owned more than I wish to remember) and more than half the weight of all previous camp chairs! My friend is 6-0, 200. He loved the chair so much he intends to buy one himself. That's significant because he would never spend more than $20 before. He said this was the most comfortable camp chair because he did not have any metal poles digging into his sides or shoulders. You can sit up to a table in this chair or relax by slouching down into it. Yes, its a lot of money, but when you are in the back country this chair will make your trip much more enjoyable.

Comfortable with some alteration

I used this chair while trailer camping last summer. It was very good for back support but the angle was too reclined for my taste. My husband made a spacer out of a 2X4 to prop up the back feet and make the chair more erect. It can also be difficult for me to set up because on the tension on fabric seat is high during the setup. Once up, it is more comfortable than any of the other designs we have tried. We have a small trailer and the compact size is also important to us. We tried the newer Heliox chair with a higher back when traveling in Europe. It was better than this design when sitting in the standard semi-reclined position since it provides head support.

This will do it!

Tried this one and the REI Flexlite chair. Kept this one. Though both have their pros and cons. If your concern is weight, then the REI Flexlite chair is a fine option. Keeps you off the ground and if you position yourself just right it will be fine. But, if your purpose can stand the extra weight, there is no comparison in sturdiness and quality. This chair is better. Our use is RAGBRAI; a cycling event where we have weight and size restrictions on our gear but someone else will be hauling it each day. So for our use, the extra weight is definitely worth it. I wondered about setup based on other reviews. It IS a tight fit, but there are tips written right on the chair and it took less than 3 minutes to put this together the first time.

Worth it!

After a 3 day backpacking trip, I'd had enough of sitting on the ground at camp. It probably didn't help that one of my buddies had a Helinox and looked comfortable every night. After checking a few different models in the store, I felt like the Helinox did have the best construction, so I bought it (even though it is absolutely the biggest splurge in my backpacking arsenal). Man I am NOT disappointed! It takes about 30 seconds to set up / take down, so I use it extra when packing and unpacking my bag at camp. The bag it comes in can attach to the outside of your backpack if you like, but it packs down well enough to fit horizontally in my Osprey 50L with no problem. I've used it now for a few months and it's held up great. Worth the splurge one $ and pack weight in my book! Makes up for it in comfort at night.

The best in the store!

I've just come back from the store after looking at camping chairs online. I'm so glad I walked over to try the different models in person. I had been set on an Alite, but after sitting in this one - I know I've made the right decision in picking it. A customer in the store warned me not to try it out without looking at the price tag first, but I did it anyway - and yes, at that moment, Goldilocks found her dream camping chair! Pros: feels the most sturdy of all the chairs in stock (even more so than the other Helinox, the swivel one), it was by far the most comfortable to me, it seems a much better quality than its competitors, it's a taller sitter than the others - yet narrow, so not a huge footprint. It's also lightweight and packs up small. I also like the bar that is in the back of the canvas, it's nice to rest my head against. The only con I can think of is the price, but with the 20% off sale this week, it's not too terribly expensive. I think $80 would be a more reasonable price. I do intend to have this chair the rest of my life though, so hopefully it's the last one I buy! For reference, I'm 5'6" and 125 lbs - this chair is a perfect fit for me.

Well worth it

I wasn't sure if it was a mistake to buy these for a recent backpacking trip to Northern Michigan, due to the cost and weight, but it was awesome being able to sit down in a chair at night and during breaks on the trail. The chairs are light, durable and easy to set-up. We will be able to use them in many other situations outside of backpacking.

Great chair

This is an exceptionally well made sturdy chair. I weigh 250 and was entirely comfortable in it. It weighs very little more than several lighter weight chairs that I felt like I was going to crush! Loved 8t so much I bought a second one with a higher back directly from the manufacturer in Australia.2

No more sitting in the Dirt

I brought this chair 1/3 of the way through my hike of the Appalachian trail as i got fed up of sitting in the dirt . And i just love it , If you want it you will carry it . I do not mind the extra weight as after a hard days hiking i can sit and relax and this chair enables me to lean back. Other chairs do not . It also makes all my hiker friends jealous Such a great chair, IT's very robust and has made it to Katahdin with me
