Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice upgrade from Ambit2 I own a Suunto Ambit2, which I had been very happy with, but couldn’t resist upgrading to the Ambit3 Peak. A heart rate monitor that works when swimming and the ability to connect via my iPhone are two features that are just too cool to do without. I like being able to change the settings on my sports modes from my iPhone without having to wait to connect with my computer. I also like using the Movescount app as a second screen for the watch, particularly when cycling. The watch is mostly the same physically as the Ambit2. However, I think the Ambit3 strap is more supple. Because the Ambit3 no longer has ANT+ support, I cannot use my Suunto foot pod or cycling cadence pod. For running cadence, the watch's cadence from the wrist works fine. For cycling cadence, I purchased a bluetooth Wahoo pod online which has yet to arrive. Not sure if Suunto will offer its own pods or not.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Suunto nailed it with the Ambit3. I can't say enough how great this watch functions. I returned a different GPS watch for this one and couldn't be happier. Does everything it says it is supposed to and is very easy to use. - Option packed and fully customizable. - Setup through the MovesCount app is so much better than pushing little buttons. - Display is super easy to read and backlight is bright even at 50%. - Syncs effortlessly with MovesCount. - Battery life is awesome. I used it during a three-week trip in Nepal and never worried about the battery life. I tracked moves for about 5-6 hours each day plus a couple of climbs. The battery never dipped below 50% and I only had to top it off a few times the whole trip. - GPS is accurate and acquires signal very quickly. No waiting to start a run or to get moving on a climb while you freeze because the watch is searching. The only problem I had was the altimeter being off because I was too lazy to set references. But, even those are easy to plug in if you're inclined to do so.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ambit 3 Peak Sapphire - Happy with it! Nice looking and solid watch, does what the specs say it will do, and very precise and accurate when using GPS. I have had it for about two weeks and have used it mostly for cycling, mountain biking, backpacking, and mountaineering. It works! My only complain (not about the watch) is that I can’t find in the manual how the recovery time is calculated.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gold Standard I have owned a Fenix2, Fenix3 and Spartan Ultra, but the Ambit 3 is the "Gold Standard" in my book. Rock Solid dependability, bullet-proof build, best GPS accuracy bar none, great battery life, rugged good looks. Many of the new watches lure us with color displays, touch screen, and 50,000 functions. At the end of the day, those don't really contribute a whole lot, other than to an extreme price tag. Well done, Suunto.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The GPS function is spot on. After using Polar HRM products for years I switched to the Suunto Ambit3 Peak in July 2015. I can now track my speed and distance on all my sea kayaking and wilderness canoeing adventures. I have found the GPS unit to be highly accurate. I'm not a professional athlete, just and aging fitness enthusiast. As winter approaches I will also be using the Ambit to monitor my XC ski workouts. It's a highly versatile device for tracking just about all you physical activities.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome watch! Suunto got it right with this watch! Built to last, sapphire doesn't scratch, long battery life! Super accurate GPS! Comes with preset exercise modes, but you can make your own and customize the screens to show you all the info you want. Worth the price! HR works great! Movescount works sweet too!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Question not a review Could not figure out how to post just a question in that section. Is this device compatible with Android phones?

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Extremely unhappy I expect great things from Suunto, especially if its a $600 GPS watch. Well, in this case it doesn't deliver, what so ever. The GPS is completely off. Oh, it has the general location down, but that's about it. when I go to movescount to see my route, its much so off, its useless. So far my Iphone 5 does a better job. I've emailed support, maybe there is something they can do, but I have my doubts.

Is this watch capable to send GPS location information using Bluetooth to Geotag capable camera, so my picture will include GPS location information within them?

Asked by: Walkers
I have had this watch for a year, and I've dug pretty deep into the functions. Short answer, NO. Better answer: Use an exercise function, and hit LAP when you take a pic. Then look at your lap location on the map online in Movescount, the partner web app that shows you your route. GPS coordinates are recorded constantly, so it'll be easy to trace. Time of day on the pic will correlate exactly with the lap time, so you'll know the GPS location you're at at the exact time the pic was taken (assuming your watch and camera are sync'd). Hope this helps.

Suunto site indicates the Ambit 3 Peak can monitor heart recovery time; however, the REI site indicates the contrary. Which is correct?  Can the screen color be changed to white or black? Which watch band is more durable: silicon or rubber?

Asked by: Ed T
The Ambit3 series will have heart rate recovery mode. We will update the specs on REI.com.
