Great adventure companion

I’m a trail runner (mostly) and cyclist and I’ve relied on Suunto GPS watches for over 10 years ranging from the Ambit 3 Peak, Suunto 9, and now Suunto Vertical. This is not an Apple watch but a precision piece of gear for the adventurer/endurance athlete that needs a core set of features done well. The Suunto Vertical stands out for the amazing battery life and offline maps that really enhance the navigation experience (Vs following a track/line). The software and App have been bombproof for me and have saved me in a number of bad weather/waning daylight situations. Suunto makes dive watches after all! Highly recommend.

DON’T BUY A SUUNTO

I BOUGHT A SUUNTO VERTICAL AT REI EARLIER THIS YEAR. WATCH WORKS FINE BUT THEY CHANGED THE APP. TO SYNC THE WATCH WITH THE APP, THEY NOW REQUIRE YOUR CONSENT TO THE TRACKING OF HEALTH AND LOCATION DATA. IF YOU DON’T CONSENT, THE OPTION IS TO DELETE YOUR ACCOUNT. SO THE WATCH CAN NO LONGER BE SYNCED WITH THE APP. I’M GETTING A REFUND FOR THE WATCH.

Great battery life, gps/maps/tracker performance

It's been eleven days since I charged this to 100% I have used this to track roughly 5h hiking since. The battery currently shows 54%. Unbelievably good battery life. I've been using the GPS functionality above water, and it's been rock solid. Good statistics, and the heart rate sensing seems quite accurate. HRV, sleep tracking, offline maps; it's all here and it's outstanding. $3 gets a lifetime license for an app that now synchronizes the Suunto app fitness data anywhere else I want it to go. My ONLY ask of Suunto is that they create many more analog watch face options. Two simply isn't even close to enough.

Masterpiece of Form and Function

Thank you, Suunto, for making such a functional smartwatch. The Vertical Titanium Solar has everything I have been looking for- incredible battery life with efficient solar charging, lightweight, stylish, and importantly NOT using and an AMOLED display (the MIP display is so nice without a light flashing on/off every wrist flip). Couldn’t recommend more. Using for interval, track, and endurance runs along with 24/7 lifestyle (time and barometer trends). Also, travel for a living. Super nice not having to pack another charger. Rarely have to charge- short sunny walks keep it topped off and are also good for the soul. So thankful that REI carries this.

100% happy with this watch - no complaints!

Absolutely love it. I've had it for about a year, and the battery life is killer. I think I might charge it every 3 weeks in the cloudy winters here. I've watched it charge itself back to 100% after a few hours in the central california sun. It does a great job of navigating. It tracks heartrate and sleep. It does not get as in depth as garmin products or apple when it comes to analytics on those. Not a big deal. The screen has done very well when it comes to damage mitigation - mine looks brand new. I damaged more amazon "screen protectors" for this watch than I can count, and have yet, after months without one, to damage the screen itself, including banging it into stuff and welding.

Good watch however needs some improvments

Great looking, Good adventure watch. It can help me to navigation via the hiking trip pretty accurately via the multi band GPS. also, super into the strap design & comfort from the watch. the industrial design of the watch also stands out a lot. However, I feel the watch heart rate related functions is a draw back if you have plans for accurate readings for your trainings, sleep, etc. All in all, this is a great watch if heart rate is not that important to you.

Great Exercise Accessory

This watch is super comfortable, and the battery last forever. I pair it with a Polar H10 chest strap for my daily workouts. The GPS is super accurate, and the data collected and displayed in the app is detailed and insightful. Suunto definitely listened to people who bought this watch after it first came out because all the firmware updates along the way have significantly improved the interface and ease of navigating through the watch’s menus. It’s great for every day day us as well. I use it to track my daily calories, steps, heart rate, blood, oxygen level, and. HRV.

Suunto Vertical Review

Great watch. Could have been 5 out of 5. Solar charging is very slow. 1% per hour in full outdoor sunlight with a UV index of 8. Sunnto needs a firmware upgrade to address this issue. Great selection of types of exercises to monitor. Watch face selection is lacking in Suunto app. Sleep tracking and other health tracking is excellent. If you want a great watch this is it. Best part is that it does not eavesdrop on your conversations. All other features are top notch. Customer support is good, Maps are very accurate and updated. GPS is accurate. Altimeter is very accurate. Very satisfied with this watch.

Suunto has a good thing going

I really dig this watch. I owned an older Suunto that I liked but it was old enough that battery life just wasn't on par with modern equivalents. Part of the reason I am sticking with Suunto is they spent significantly on upgrading their app. I really REALLY dislike the subscription based models we all get forced into to track fitness and the Suunto app is now good enough to just opt out of Strava or other similar apps. I dont need (or frankly want) to use any of the sharing or gamification functionality that all fitness apps seem to focus so much on. Watch performance is so far great. It's easy to use, intuitive, and not over designed. The size is perfect. Watch band is very comfy with the ability to micro adjust as your wrist size expands and contracts (weight lifting vs downhill skiing have subtly different wrist sizing needs). The battery life is killer! You can adjust some settings and get the drain low enough to easily hike a week in the Backcountry, especially with the solar recharging ability. Anyway, so far I love this thing and the Suunto app is everything I need so the fitness app don't get any of my money.

Great watch but I had software update issues.

I was trying different sport style watches for running. I gave the vertical a try and initially really liked it. Fits great on my smaller wrist. Battery life was great. Suunto app was clean and simple with the features a runner wants. The watch quality could be top of the class for watches in this price range and others that cost more. The band fits snugly without being tight and I like the little button closure. Easy to read the watch face on sunny days. Connected to my Garmin heart rate strap easily and every time I ran. The wrist heart rate sensor lacks a little compared to other brands, but none of the watches I’ve tired are as accurate as a chest heart rate sensor. The interface on the watch was straightforward and there are many different options of actives to choose from. However…I had the watch during the time Suunto did an update that wouldn’t upload activities to the app right after you were done. I would run, watch was tracking as normal. I would stop, save and then it wouldn’t sync on the app. Suunto acknowledged the problem that had been ongoing for a few weeks( I found that out through the Sunnto forums). At that point I only had the watch for a few weeks and that left a bad taste in my mouth and I returned it. The software on the watch is getting better from what I’ve read, but still seems lacking compared to Garmin. If Suunto comes out with a feature packed like Garmin, but in that beautiful Suunto Vertical style..it would be a real winner.
