Keen is my favorite shoe brand. I own Targhee Mid and Lo, Voyager Mid and Lo, Arroyo, Newport, Howser, and others that are not made anymore. The Durand Mid is the best ever. I live in Texas and bought them at the end of the season to wear in the winter. They are so comfortable and the soles are superior to the others that I wear them everyday. Even though the temperature is in the 90s. I walk an hour a day for exercise along with being on my feet all day long as a teacher. They are GREAT. I cannot wait for the Lo version to come out. The sizing is the same as the Targhee and the Voyager. I am hoping that other Keen shoes move to the same sole.
I am not a fan of tall hiking boots whatsoever. They are cumbersome, hot and heavy, I feel restricted and bound. BUT NOT IN THESE PUPPIES! A full rise boot with an Achilles dip deeper than my low rise boots. LOVE the ankle stability, LOVE the toebox! I climbed Camelback Mtn. in Phx a few days ago and it was a breeze, no rolled ankles and no jamming my toes on the way down. 90 degree weather and I was doing great in these bad boys. We hope to do some hardcore backpacking this summer. I like the lace pivot point. it makes it easier to catch the last hook and sinch down tight, or skip the last hook for a looser fit. Cant say a bad thing about them!
I am very happy with these shoes. I did need to get a full size larger than my street shoes. They were very comfortable from the start, just a few little hot spots during the first few days. I have been wearing them almost daily for 3 miles a day the last month, as a break-in, but really didn't need to. I just did a 7 mile hike and it was the most comfortable in many years for my feet. I got these because 1) made in America, 2) doctor recommended the larger toe box for foot issues. I did replace the insoles with Superfeet for better support, also on the doctors recommendation. I have not had them out in wet weather, so cannot attest to waterproofing.
I bought these and wore them up Half Dome after "breaking them in" by wearing them to weed my backyard (i.e. I wore them for about eight hours). No complaints during the weeding. However, after hiking some miles in them the width could have been more for me. I sized up one full size, too. I will be returning to see if a half size more will give me what I need in that area. Loved that I got no blisters! My feet were beyond tired at the end so more cushion would be nice, too. It's a great boot...would recommend for shorter hikes. Ankle support was awesome...saved me on two occasions!
I bought these boots last year after trying four other pairs of various types. I trained for two months then walked the camino de Santiago from St Jean Pied de Port to Santiago then from Muxia to Finesterre. I walked in mud as deep as the boots are tall, in the snow, rain, over roads a goat would have balked at. These boots are the best. I just went to REI and ordered a brand new pair!! By the way...I only got one tiny blister from a bandaid that moved!!! If you're thinking of doing the Camino get at least 1&1/2 sizes larger!!
Since I mainly only wear Keen sandals, Keen hiking boots seemed like the right chose. I just purchased my second pair of this particular boot. My first pair has 500 miles on them, and they have been worked very hard on all surfaces from rock scrambling, to slickrock, sand, loose grave, and stream crossings. The boots were comfortable right out of the box. The soles are thick and give my feet the support on all types of rock. They have just the right amount of ankle support. I have tried other brands of boots and did receive blisters. I have finally found what my feet need on a tough trail. I do wear a full size larger in my hiking boots.
Took these to Mt. Whitney. We were mountaineering in snow a majority of the time and my feet never got wet. I don't hike often but my feet were so comfortable throughout this three day trip. Ice trackers fit comfortable and the shoes were durable throughout the entire obstacles we faced on this trip. Great purchase.
I am a flight nurse and work 24 shifts in all kinds of weather. Keen boots are the best and these are even better since they are waterproof. They are also really cute. Warm but not hot, light weight and comfortable out of the box. I always get 1/2 size larger in the Keen brand and these are the same. Made in USA!!!
Absolutely love these boots. I have slightly wider feet and opted for these because of all the reviews. The toe space is so incredible. I took them on a backpacking trip in South Africa for two months and never had any foot pain. In fact, I often found that my feet felt BETTER after hiking in them for 12 miles. A breeze to break in, great for stream crossings and trail blazing, always warm and comfortable. I love these boots so much I want to wear them every day, they are a bit clunky for fashion purposes though.
I've worn these all summer for hiking and the tread on the bottom looks new still. They keep my feet extremely warm (maybe too much in summer) so I know they will be excellent this winter. I have not gone too deep in water, but so far seem quite waterproof. I wear a size 8 normally and they were true to size for me. The downside is the tongue always slips down, but nothing that affects function or comfort. I'm happy to see these Built in America and the quality shows!
