I use this to work on my car, look for things in attic/basement, walk the dog, take out trash. This is the best balance of a headlamp with it being light, very bright, and with many lighting options. The new design got it simplier for how to set the light although it would be nice if they could do more. I like it better since you can go straight to the bright light. The only thing worse is that it is harder to press the main button. With gloves it is very hard to know if you got your finger on it and so much force is needed with each attempt. Fumbling around gets annoying fast. I actually find controlling the light not too complex so only this button is a negative to me. That is hard to beat...this is the best light.
I bought this headlamp to be used for work. I am with a Marine law enforcement unit. For the money it has all the features you could want. Best feature is once you put it into the red light mode it stays in that red light until you either change the batteries or change back to white light which is a must if you don't want accidental white light. Only complaint is that it is a little heavy compare to most headlamps due to having 4 batteries. I highly recommend this headlamp for anyone needing a bright, durable, waterproof headlamp with red light for night time use. The only reason I didn't give this a 5 star rating is because of the weight and lack of versatility compared to other lights on the market but most of those cost much much more and that is why I chose this one and don't regret it at all.
I love this headlamp and use it a couple times a week assisting with SAR classes at night. I love the ability to dim the light, previously only had headlamps with 2-3 brightness settings with no dim-capability. I still use some older headlamps with the rear-mounted battery pack, which I still prefer when I'm not using a helmet because the weight balance is more neutral on my head. Otherwise this is my favorite headlamp in terms of features offered.
I needed a hands-free light for sailing a race 250 mile race in Lake Huron last weekend. The light worked perfectly. There are two primary modes; the bright white light the red light option. Both white and red lights can be dimmed when intensity is not needed. The red light makes working on the deck of a boat with 3 or 4 other crew much easier for everyone because it doesn't cause the temporary blindness a white light does. This light held up to some heavy rain and functioned flawlessly. I did need the high intensity light when our lifeline failed. Doing a repair in 20+ mph winds at the front of a bouncing boat while getting drenched by waves and rain, the last thing you want to worry about is being able to see. The light did its job, stayed securely in place and was comfortable enough to wear when turned off. A great $50 investment.
I liked this headlamp for brightness, adjustibility of the light output and the red mode, but it has a serious design flaw that I've seen with a number of similar headlamps. The tilt adjustment has just four positions that are too far apart. In other words, as you're walking down a trail and you find that the beam angle is adjusted a little too low on the trail ahead of you, the next click up will but the beam too far out and you'll need to compensate by having to tilt your head down from it naturally wants to be to put the beam where you want it. My last headlamp was a BD Icon that didn't have this flaw: the tilt angle could be set anywhere you wanted it over a range of about 90 degrees.
I have used this headlamp for a couple years now and love everything about it. I have done several night hikes with it and the bright setting provides plenty of light to find the trail. The red lamp is perfect for using in the tent so as to not blind you with the reflection and to not wake up your tent mate. You can also lock it in the off position so it doesn't get accidentally turned on while in your pack. I can't think of anything that I would change about this headlamp. Good product.
I bought this for doing some nighttime work around the house, nice having a hands-free light that is always pointed in the direction I'm looking. It's comfortable on the head and didn't move from it's position when I did a 20 minute jog. Nice feature is the one tap "full bright" mode on the side of the light. Also is dimmable in all modes (bright white main light, 2 LED dimmer white light, and red light). I look forward to using it this year for some fishing, hiking and camping.
I went camping over spring break and had a cheap-O headlamp, and thought it was fine! BUT a few of my buddies had Black Diamond headlamps (one of them with a Storm) and It blew my headlamp out of the water! Soooo much brighter! So afterwards I did a little research and read a lot of reviews/videos and seemed like Black Diamond was by far the superior brand! So then I compared different BD headlamps and narrowed it down to the Storm! Perfect for me and what I do! Which is just use it for Regular stuff, and every once in a while go camping! But mainly just hangingout! It's great! Pro: BRIGHT! Lightweight Waterproof Touch pad dim setting Lock mode
I bought this lamp to replace another Black Diamond that I lost. I particularly wanted to use the red light feature during astronomy sessions where I would be turning it on and off a lot and always wanted the red light to come on right away. The instructions were clear about how to manage this and it worked every time, then let me change to white light at the end of the night to clean up and inspect my observing site. The on/off switch is initially hard to find, but with practice becomes easier. The strap is comfortable and I wore it about six hours without it falling off or causing discomfort.
I bought a Black Diamond headlamp a few years back which I loved and unfortunately lost. I thought this was the updated version and maybe it is. But who designed that switch? It's complicated, I still haven't figured out how to reliably change from one mode to another. It has a "lock" on it and you'd better use it always because the switch is very sensitive and easily turns itself on. Unfortunately the "lock" is also quite sensitive and can easily un-lock in your pack. The only way I've found to prevent accidental turn-ons is to open it up and reverse one of the batteries. That's not something you want to have to undo in the dark.
