Rated 2 out of 5 by from Comfortable, not durable I bought these in August and wore them on an 8-mile hike in Glacier National Park. They were soft, comfortable, and dried quickly when I got wet. However, they immediately began pilling. Since then, I've only worn then a handful of times in social situations. They look old and cheap. When I pay full price for name-brand clothing, I expect it to hold up longer than a couple months.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Comfortable and durable - some durability concern I bought these in two colors for a month-long trip to Europe. Columbia bottoms usually fit me well, and these were no exception. I was sold immediately after trying them on. They performed really well - so much that they were my preferred pants/shorts for the whole trip. They're just really comfortable and look good. The only problem is with some pilling - mostly in the crotch area, although there's also some on the back near one of the pockets. I'm not sure how or why that's happening. This happened after wearing for 5-8 mile walking days in 90 degree weather. I'm still ordering them in the two colors I don't already have - I like them that much.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Versatile - wore these in Europe I bought these for a three week trip to Europe where I was taking a single bag that couldn't weigh more than 5 kilos. I wanted something light and quick drying and modest (for church visits). I was surprised how versatile these were. I found myself wearing them a lot, and they perfomed well. When we were caught in a sudden downpour in Paris, the water rolled right off them, even though everything else I wore got soaked. Later on that week during the train strike, I wore them through a sweaty and miserable day after our train got cancelled, and they were in much better shape than me at the end of the day. I walked all over Venice in them, and they seemed breathable, light, and cool. I wore the out to dinner one night by adding a silk tunic and a pair of gold sandals. I washed them out at night and they were dry by morning. I wish I had bought a smalller size because they stretch.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The Question of Size and Rise I just purchased these pants. Heard rave reviews from women in store who have them. I want to address the size issue. I am between a 6 and an 8. In jeans I have an 8 slim that works very well. In these capris the 8 fit just fine and the 6 was too tight. I find the large size variations mentioned in other reviews odd. I personally prefer a slightly higher rise, but I like everything else about these capris well enough to keep them. I like the zipped pocket on the side of leg. I find this kind of pocket very useful for things like keys and possibly a little cash or a credit card. When traveling it is very helpful to have a quick-dry fabric. (I recently returned from SE Asia where I washed other lightweight pants in the sink. Very helpful to be able to dry things overnight.) Contact me for tips re washing when traveling.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best multi-use pants I own These fit me a little diff than the photo. At 5'3" and 135 lbs, they sit a little lower on my hips, but in a good way- everything fits. It fits my large thighs and butt without being constricting & somehow makes my lower belly button pooch look flattering. I can climb in these- they stretch AND breath amazingly without pulling too low in the back (or riding too high). No need for underwear with these either which is a huge plus in my book- no chafing. Very light weight. Fabric has held up well, but sadly they looked "worn in" after my first use, but for as much as I wear these and as much abuse as I have given them, they hold up well, fit perfectly and breath the best out of all my pants. Def will be buying more. I have not tried these backpacking, I like a higher waist so the belt on the pack doesn't push them down, but for hiking and climbing, day packs <15 lbs and everyday use, these are great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Columbia has gottten better Love the new REI store in Easton Columbus OH - what a pleasant experience. Great staff, gorgeous store. I wore Columbia a few years ago & didn't like the fact that most of their pants were flimsy material. Not anymore - the Saturday Trail II Knee Pants have just enough weight to them to be fashion street sportswear, as well as functioning in tough outdoor situations. I find Columbia pants to run 1 size small - generally take a 10 - get the 12, at 150lbs, 5'7.5" the fit is less tight than the model pictured. Also the rise is not near as low as pictured on the model - 12" front rise 14"back rise inc the gusseted crotch - making them flattering & worth a second look. I purchased 2 pairs at REI Easton today, back to order 1 more pair, perfect for that 95 degree day - do it with some style, not just sweat.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great, lightweight, and extra comfortable! As I get older, I realize that some parts of the body show age more than others. I love that these cover the knees! The thighs are roomy enough to accommodate legs and hips. I wore these on a 10 mile hike and was not hot or uncomfortable. My only wish is that the pants have an draw string so as the day wears on, the pants don't feel like they will slip. Plan on getting another pair!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Could be better with an adjustable waist I love the material, love the comfort; repels water. The only downside is no drawstring at the waist and only 2 belt loops on the front, so you can't use a belt. The pants fall off me and I have to keep pulling them up. Good pants, but could have been great pants with an adjustable waist.

I've seen a few older reviews that complain about pilling. Has this been addressed?

Asked by: Maxi
We have not received significant feedback related to the fabric pilling. You can reduce the chance of pilling by turning the garment inside out before washing. This will keep the outer fabric from brushing against other garments which is one cause of pilling.
