Rated 1 out of 5 by from not a liner! I recently purchased 3 pair of these REI brand "liner" socks to replace older REI brand true liner socks that are wearing out. The old ones worked perfectly to prevent blisters because material was smooth/slippery and allowed the movement between sock layers that is required of a liner. These new REI "liner" socks do not work. They are rough and create abrasion of both the outer sock and the heel. Result - blisters! Had to hike through 3 days with heal blister on recent outing due to the extremely poor design of these sock. Do not buy them! Mine are going back with a strong discussion to the REI manager here in Albuquerque.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from good quality liner sock I wear these socks as an everyday sock because I cant wear regular cotton socks due to the nature of my job and my feet get very sweaty. Since switching to these as well as a shoe that ventilates well I never experience the dreaded jungle foot problem/ itchy foot ! The only problem I've encountered is that they seem to pill a bit/ little fuzz balls stuck to the outside after washing. I never put them in the dryer, just hang them to dry and they dry really fast. Other than that a great product !

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Interesting I bought these because they were sweat wicking. They felt very soft. I thought it was cotton, but it is made from recycled plastic bottles. Weird eh. But, when I tried them, they performed as advertised - soft, sweat wicking. If you need a sock liner, these will do the job and the price was right.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Try liners if you never have I bought these for my backpacking trip and had never worn liners before. My feet were so happy. The Infers provided another level of softness and comfort. I was wearing boots I was pretty sure about but you never know with a new atmosphere if you will get blisters. There were no blisters or soar spots at all. I wore them for two days (yes the same pair) and had to remove them several times for creek crossings and they did not stretch out of shape. If you hike or backpack I recommend you try these liners.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from wear well and fit well I wear these under my heavier hiking socks to wick away moisture from my sweating feet and to prevent blisters. The REI brand wears better than some others I have tried.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from soft, cool and comfortable I usually wear a thin REI silk liner sock and a medium weight REI hiking sock, and have never had any problems with blisters. I wore out a couple of pairs of the silk socks over the past 2-3 years and noticed the CoolMax liner socks while shopping for replacements for the other socks. I still bought 2 of the REI silk socks, but tried out the CoolMax liners and found them to be very soft cool and comfortable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from First time with no blisters! I wore these socks along with a second pair of very lightweight liner socks on a recent backpacking trip and was delighted that I developed NO blisters!! This is a first for me. On all previous trips, with different socks, including liner socks I have always had blisters after a few days hiking. Since I had tried several different combinations of socks and hiking boots in the past, I had resigned myself to blisters. This time was such a welcome surprise-no blisters!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good for blister prevention I bought these for both my son and daughter for a 73 mile hike. They both loved them. They came back with just a tiny blister despite a long hike with 45 and 55 lb packs. I bought 3 pairs for myself also. Note - one pair was mispackaged; they were medium (as indicated by the sewn in 'M'), even though there were in a package marked as large. Be sure to doublecheck!

My feet sweat and are always cold during the winter and sometimes during summer.  What kind of sock should I use over these liners?

Asked by: Mcmdadme
Depending on your end-use, we recommend either a merino wool sock or a synthetic sock. Both types work well for wicking moisture and regulating temperature at the same time. You can sort socks based on end-use here; https://www.rei.com/c/socks

How "reusable" are these on one single trek? For example, if I will be hiking for 5-7 days, for how many days can I use one liner before it stops "working" and wicking away sweat? Or can I use 1 the whole trip with different socks?

Asked by: sofia
These socks can be used on multiple treks. The CoolMax breathability comes from the overall construction and weave of the socks.

Do hikers ever where just these?  I am having trouble finding socks that keep my feet cool.  Since I got my Hoka Boots, my feet are always hot.  Have tried all different wool and other socks.  Thinking just liners maybe?

Asked by: Caminolaura
It is possible to use the EcoMade CoolMax Liner Socks as stand alone socks. One thing to keep in mind is that the socks are very thin and were designed to be worn under other socks.

why not just specify "fit womens' shoe sizes 8-11" or "fit man's 10-13 shoe"so a customer could figure out which to buy? With the limited choice, I'm thinking I will need to buy a man's size...... S, M, L doesn't tell me much

On the cusp between M & L--some shoe brands 8.5, others 9-9.5. Which direction should I go for these liners? Don't want too much extra fabric, don't want too little. Do they shrink/stretch over time? 12 days at Philmont is too long to get this wrong!

Asked by: mkkrum
The REI EcoMade CoolMax liner socks will not shrink over time. We would suggest purchasing the large size and trying them before your trip to Philmont to ensure they serve your purposes well.
