Been Wearing Same Pair for 45+ Years
I love these gators! I started wearing them in high school in NJ then took them into the Blue Ridge Mts in VA and never stopped! They are perfect replacements when you don't have snowpants and just need to wear them over your jeans. They sure keep the wet snow out and help to keep my legs warm during Boston winters. I think I paid $17.00 for them back then and can't just how much bang for the buck I have gotten out of them! Thanks so much R.E.I.! I would give them a 10 star rating if it was possible.
Great gaiters!
These gaiters work great. I just recently used them on my climb of Mt. Adams. I tried on all the different gaiters at REI but these were the only ones long enough to rest comfortably at the tops of my calves (I’m 6’2”). They stayed snug and never slipped down for the entire climb. I also like the elastic cuff because it keeps them snug on my boots and doesn’t let the snow in from the bottom. Very lightweight too.
Kept me dry
I bought these gaiters while preparing for aJanuary hiking trip in the mountains. Realized after I bought them that I had meant to purchase the Alpine gaiters meant for snow and that these were only water resistant. Because of time constraints I was unable to exchange them and brought them along on my trip. These gaiters worked great. I did some hiking without snowshoes and fell deep into snow more often than I'd like to admit. I was out on the mountain all day and at no point did my legs get wet at all, which was exactly what I was hoping for. I'm glad I made this purchase!
Great Gaiters and Great Company!
I love these. I wear these pretty much every time I go into the woods with long pants on and that's fairly often. I bought these a few years ago and just last month, the strap that goes under your foot gave out on one of them. I was surprised it had lasted as long as it did given the miles and abuse I give these things. SO I contacted the company and they said they would replace them. I just received my replacements from Outdoor Research today. Great company that stands behind their gear!
Mostly Excellent
Grabbed these on sale as my first pair of gaiters. I’ve been extremely happy with them since day 1 and they’ve done and excellent job of keeping my feet and lower legs dry. I’ve probably hiked 50-75 miles in these so far including tabletop mountain in the Adirondacks and lots of time in deep snow. The only problem I have with them is that the plastic clip that secured the top strap on them doesn’t always stay closed during vigorous activity. I took away one star for this, but it should be noted that even when it comes loose the gaiters remain in place on my leg until I notice that it’s come loose. I’ll never hike in snow without gaiters again. For the price these are definitely worth it.
Gave mine to the mailman, need another pair
Great gaiters, used them hiking in Alaska, snowshoeing in Utah, deep snow, etc. When we had a 2+ foot snowstorm and my mailman was trying to deliver mail with regular pants and galoshes (!) I gave him mine (had to show him how to put them on). Man was he happy. If he does not drop them back, I will just order another pair. These are a great product.
Awesome Gaiters
Great gaiters. I've used them in rain, snow, sleet, dew covered grass, etc. Never got wet. Never got anything in my boots. They say they're not waterproof, but these have kept me dry. I can't see any reason for me to buy more expensive gaiters.
Light, breathable and supple, very happy
I opted for these after having the Gore-Tex version for several years. It occurred to me that my boots are Gore-Tex, and if it's super wet, I'll be wearing rain pants as well. I needed gaiters for those misty days or days when the trail/woods were covered in heavy dew. Also for snow and dust/seeds/etc. In other words, water resistant would be good enough. So I saved some money and got these. After an elk hunting trip in Idaho where I encountered light rain, snowy mountain tops, and lots of underbrush, I am very happy. They kept me dry and kept my boots clear from debris/seeds, etc. They are lighter than the Gore-Tex version and much softer. They stuff into your pack easily and take up much less room than the Gore-Tex version. Only 4 stars today because I can't vouch for their durability. But they seem well made and I imagine if I take care of them, they will last.
Great in Snow So Far
Got these in the mail, and no sooner had I decided to try them on did my area (western U.P. of Michigan) get hit with a strong band of lake effect snow. Rather than suit up in my snowpants to get to work, I decided to try the gaiters out and put them through exactly the type of rigors I'd expect them to survive. Good thing too, because there were 3-4 foot drifts of snow burying my truck, which would've been a terrible time plodding through in just boots and jeans. The gaiters worked great. No snow got through on the bottoms or on top once I'd gotten everything cinched down and tight. I've since gotten out into the really deep stuff out of the parking lot and on the trail, and they're holding up well as I post-hole my way around. They feel light, but that may be because I'm used to having snowshoes strapped on instead (can't give those up just yet). I can feel the cold snow against my legs, which is what I expected since these aren't insulated. Can't wait to try them out in warmer weather to see how they hold up.
Good product but over priced
They work pretty well i just cant seem to get the clasp on the end to stay attached to the loop on my shoelaces. Besides that they work well and stay in place which i was worried about but they stay put.
