A Great Surprise!
So these might be the perfect shoulder weather gaiter. I was out shooting cross country mountain biking after a brief snow and I was surprised on just how well the protected my shoes and legs I used them with a little heavier hiking shoe instead of a boot or a trail runner and they fir the shoes perfectly. No snow was able to get into the my shoes and they stayed up without have to readjust the gaiters. I was a little concerned that they would be a little too short, but they were about the right height. I'll be using these until the weather starts warming up!
Too big / poor fit
a non-waterproof mid-calf pair of OR gaiters which fit fine and have worn well, but I wanted a shorter waterproof version and these seemed perfect. I bought them a couple of weeks ago and ordered a medium per my shoe size (women’s 9) and unfortunately they were much too large. They didn’t fit well with my hiking shoes and because the top has a buckle rather than a cinch tie I could not cinch them tight enough to fit snugly. The quality was good but I had to return them.
Broader versatility in the gaiter line
I have been using OR gaiters for decades, my two new favorite models are the latest iteration of the Crocodile in the full and these mid-lengths. Occasionally I don't wear gaiters because the insulation properties can outpace the level of protection needed particularly on higher alpine pursuits. A perfect solution is a shorter gaiter that provides protection but doesn't cover the whole calf, also great when not wearing tall mountain boots.
Used on two separate backpack trips in the Canadian rockies. Wore them with a goretex salomon boot. They fit over my boots and they kept me dry, which were my two main concerns. I have not tried them with a trail runner. I like the mid height much better than a knee height for both pack weight and comfort of wear.
