Great improvement over the original

I don’t know why outdoor research did not do this sooner. You have probably broken the metal buckle that goes on the bottom strap like I have on multiple pairs of these if you have been a serious mountaineer. This new version is a serious upgrade and I don’t know why they didn’t think of it sooner I’ve gone through a half dozen pairs of the old style and this is a much-needed improvement. Finally, some forward thinking in mountaineering footwear.

Nice update

The updates are very nice. Beware, mine arrived with only one boot hook installed.

Downgrade from Old Crocodile Gaiter Model

Just purchased these a couple of weeks back. Got to wear them a few times while snowshoeing. Unlike my old pair of Crocodile Gaiters, these seem cheap. My old pair served me for many years in the snow. I wore them with snowshoes, I wore them with crampons, I wore them with microspikes. Many, many miles. Sure they got worn, but what wouldn’t with heavy use? One of these new ones already has a tear in the material. Seriously? I’ve only used them snowshoeing a few times. The velcro seems the same. The velcro tab at the bottom is better. The strap update seems to work. The inverted boot lace catch is odd, but works well, and has not come detached from my laces like the old style. The fabric? Not inspiring any confidence at all. Half a dozen snowshoe adventures of at most 8 miles along woods roads, and they are torn?

GREAT Gaiters!!!

This is my third set of OR Crocodile gaiters over the past 30 plus years. I have used them frequently on my many Colorado mountain outings as well as several Andean big mountain summits and have never been disappointed with them. However, I must say that this newest pair is a significant design improvement over my previous two pairs. The off center Velcro seam is much easier to work and being offset to the side it is safer when using crampons. The up facing shoelace hook is also much easier to use. The best improvement though, is the under boot strap and it’s adjustment mechanism …. HUGE improvement over the old strap and buckle configuration. I look forward to many warm dry outings for my boots and feet this winter due to these gaiters!

Best in Class!

I’ve owned a pair of Outdoor Research (OR) crocodile gators for years using them for winter camping at least a dozen times and they have performed exceptionally well. Too, living here in the Rocky Mountains requires seasonal snow shoveling too. So I probably need to put them on a half dozen or more times a year. They’ll keep your pant legs and boots dry from snow, rain and sleet. Too, they add warmth in freezing conditions. Easy on and off. Extremely durable and well made. They are the best I’ve found and I highly recommend.

Good for snow and ice

Bought these to replace my old gaiters. Great for trekking across snow covered lakes and trails. I enjoy that the instep strap is replaceable and doesnt have a buckle on the outside.

Not enough size adjustment

The adjustment strap even in th XXL sized gaiter does not accommodate a size 47 double boot. I just tried to strap these on my baruntse boots and there is not enough adjustment to accommodate the size of double boots. I would go with the classic instep buckle gaiters instead of these.

Perfect Gaiters

I have owned several variations of gaitors from OR and other brands. Of all I have tried in the field these are by far my favorite due to the design and material. The velcro placement and underhook lace design stand out to me as the best upgrades over other models. Used these in a backcountry hunt in Kodiak Alaska where I have on several years encountered some of the worst brush known to man and these held up perfectly and stayed in place.

Excellent quality, durability, and fit. Love gators out in the woods, desert, and wilderness. These keep debris, snow, and generally all insects out of your lower pant legs. You can peel them off at the end of the day and broom or wash them and they and ready to go the next day. Goretex lining is perfect for shallow water crossings with high ankle boots. If your out in Mother Nature, they are a big must for me. Simple to use and effective.

Could be better but works

Paired these with some new Oboz Bridgers in 11.5. The strap that goes under the boot is barely long enough at its longest setting but does work. They do not work with a pair of Mucks Artic Pros in size 12. The top of the gaiters are stitched on top and at the tightest setting will not form a snug fit around my calf. Using with snowshoes is not a problem. Punching potholes with my boots results in snow inside the gaiter
