Great boot, but lace webbing broke.

The boots fit well to my shoe size, and broke in relatively easily. They take a bit of work to loosen the laces to remove the shoe. I also found the laces came untied regularly. I wore these everyday for six months in Helsinki, and found they kept my feet warm when I was moving. However, if the temperature dropped below 10 farenheit, or if I was standing for a long period, the soles do not offer enough insulation. After six months of daily use, one the shoelaces rubbed through and broke the webbing eyelet at the ankle. All the eyelets should be metal or just a hook.

Comfort-warmth-sturdy

I got them today. Took them out of the box and put them on. Took my dog for a long hike and they worked great. The boots fit like a glove. With hard snow pack the traction was great. I crossed a few wet areas and they handled it fine. Super comfortable, no breaking in needed and very warm. Frost bit my left foot a few years ago and its super sensitive to cold. No issues. Hit a few steep areas and the support was good. Descending was stable and no pitching, banging or slipping around. I'm a 10.5 and they fit perfectly.

Excellent winter hiking boots

I used these boots for hiking/snowshoeing Mt Field, Willey and Tom in New Hampshire. The boots performed flawlessly in 10 degree weather, keeping my feet warm and dry. Prior to switching to snowshoes, traction was above average on hard packed snow. I have lower volume and on the narrow side of "D" width feet. I normally wear size 11 in sneakers, street shoes and hiking boots. I found a size 11.5 in the snowburbans worked well for me. They provide a snug, not constricting, athletic fit. I did not have any heel slippage on ascents. On steep descents, the boots kept my feet locked in preventing any bruising of the toenails! Out of the box comfort, well constructed and light weight. Very happy with my purchase!

Expensive but cheaply made

I bought a pair of Vasque hiking boots a while ago that were made with GoreTex. They did a great job of keeping my feet warm and dry, but these things will not last. Earlier this year i was out walking my dogs and looked down and noticed a part of the GoreTex covering was bulging out on my left foot. Since the GoreTex is essentially glued to the rubber sole there was no way to stop the GoreTex from continuing to separate from the sole. When I purchased these at REI I specifically tried to look for boots with a standard outer that was sewn into the sole of the boot. Those are almost impossible to find nowadays - I guess because the manufacturers realized that gluing the parts together would mean that when the inevitable happens you would have to just go out and buy another pair of boots. I for one will never buy another pair of Vasque boots again.

Great winter boots for day hikes

I bought these boots for moderate to strenuous winter hikes where i could get by w/o snow shoes. These boots haven't let me down yet. They are warm, provide good traction, are of perfect height and even have a small ledge above the hill for micro spikes or small crampons. While these boots are not as specialized and technical as Scarpa's I am very pleased with them. I went a few times to Mt. Washington in them, took an avalanche course, and went on numerous ski trips. They haven't let me down yet.

Fantastic Winter Boots!

I used these all of last winter to snowshoe in. They kept my feet warm and dry. When loitering around our snow camps, my feet never were cold. I've read how the sizing has been all over the place for others, mine I had to go up half a size for winter socks. I actually ended up wearing a liner sock and mid weight wool sock and the fit is perfect without being loose or too tight, keeping the blood and warmth circulating. Great boot for snowshoeing and MICROspiking.

Most Comfortable Winter Hiking Boot

I got the Snowburban ultra dry's for an expedition to Iceland, my idea was that I wanted to fit a strap on crampon to a flexible lightweight boot because I was so tired of years of trekking around in heavy plastic double boot. It worked great, the crampon must be very flexible but your legs stay light & you can push for longer days with a lighter boot. What I didn't realize at the time was how comfortable they would be, they ended up being my primary snowshoeing boot & hanging around the yard shoveling boot. The most comfortable winter boot I have ever worn.

Quality right out of the box

Went snowshoeing in Arapaho National Forest (CO)and chose these boots. They worked great as I needed to walk around Denver a good bit as well and they met the urban cold weather needs as well as for snowshoeing. My feet stayed dry and warm with about 3ft of snow and single digits with only a pair of medium wool hiking socks. The difficulty in entrance is due to a higher stock on the boot that is a plus when in the snow, but makes entering the boot a slight effort.

Hot Boots for Cold Times

Bought these boots recently on sale at REI. Wanted something to keep my toes warm. Initially I was disappointed while doing some light shoveling and found my toes were cold. Spoke to an REI salesperson about this who asked, "What I was doing to keep my core warm?" Thought that was an odd question. Then he told me, "If the core is cold it draws heat from the extremities." This made sense. Now I make sure my feet and toes are warm before I put them inside my boots. I realize no matter how good the boots are, they won't turn cold toes warm. So far I have been on several hikes, shoveled snow for 8 hours, and found them dependably warm and feel great on my feet. I agree they can be hard to put on and take off, but I found if you undo the laces and pull on the yellow/black pull tabs that are in the middle of the boot laces to loosen the laces in that area, then they go on and come off much easier. Another piece of advice the REI salesperson gave me was to wear mid-weight merino wool hiking socks. I find my feet to be warm and comfortable when following his advice. I also put my ice spikes on these boots and they fit well. So over all I'm very pleased with these boots and look forward to enjoying them for many years to come. I appreciate the knowledgeable folks at REI who listen and supply practical answers, as that is what makes REI my go to place for all things out of doors.

Sizing is true

Trust the sizes. One of my biggest hesitations in buying footgear online is not knowing how the shoes/boots will fit. With these boots, I recommend going with the same size as all the rest of your other shoes. I wear an 8.5 dress shoe, tennis shoe and hiking boot. I ordered 8.5 for these boots and the fit is perfect. A 9 would've been too roomy, an 8 would've been too tight. If they perform as promised in the snow, I'll change my rating to 5 stars. So far, I am glad I got these.
