I bought these because I have a pair of Merrell’s that I bought years ago that they no longer make and these were the closest to it. First off for the insoles in Merrill boots come with a thin piece of lightweight EVA (Ethylene Vinyl Acetate) recycled foam that’s so thin and uncomfortable you have to put real insoles in them which I did on both pairs. I hiked 5.20 miles and 1,404 ft Elev. gain and my feet were killing me by the time I got back to the car. With the old pair I was hiking 7.95 miles 2,195 Elev. gain with no problems. Second the height of these are lower than the old pair by about 2 inches third midway up of the left boot backside something pushes in on the back above the heel
The fit and the materials of this boot are really great. They would be comfortable except for the fact that the ankles are exposed and the cold and snow get in. They are way too low. They're not really boots in fact, more like shoes. It's impossible to hold pants around them, they always slip off on the back because there is so little wiggle room. You I have to always wear them with good gators that go low on the back, and ironically they don't have gater hooks. I wouldn't have but these shoes but i had to get higher boots replaced and there weren't any other wide models available.
I have Merrell shoes before and added to my foot gear with these and they did not disappoint. The shoes work well for me, fit is great, they walk well wuth plenty of support and keep your feet flat and level on the ground, and they look great too. I wore these to a Buffalo Bills game, on 11-16-25. The temperature was around 38 degrees, with wind chill down to freezing. I was wearing electric socks. However, I never turned the socks on and my feet never got cold. I was wanting to see how long my feet would stay comfortable and I should have known, they did not disappoint me. We were outside for around 8 to 9 hours. Again, I would recommend Merrell shoes and boots to anyone.
Your boots are so well made I wore a pair for over 10 yrs gave them to Salvation Army so some else could wear them for a few more years. The pair I received fit perfectly very comfortable, so I can wear them 10 yrs plus.
not what I was expecting not a hiking boot, there is no loop to hang gaters and the tongue does not go high enough and will not protect against the snow . I purchased this boot, thinking it would replace my old.J39499 Opti warm 200 that had all the characteristic that I was looking for accept the Vibram sole. The old boots were very slippery on packed snow or icy surfaces. The positive thing about my purchase was that it had Vibram sole. I should have looked better and for perhaps should’ve gone to a store to try and look at the product.please Merrill use more the Vibram sole on your winter products.
Fantastic boots! Comfortable right out of the box and warm. Matched with a great pair of Merrell socks will keep your feet happy.
Used this for work in North Slope Alaska. Obviously these aren’t rated for -30F but they are definitely better than regular running shoes up there. For my case being from the Gulf Coast where it barely gets to freezing these made sense. They are very comfortable and kept my feet from feeling like ice cubes. The material and build quality is amazing which you can definitely notice. Have yet to try them on trails but I have no doubt they will be perfect for that.
As a delivery driver I’ve been wearing these everyday in January when there’s snow, sleet, slush etc. At first everything was great, but in the last week of month, I noticed my socks were getting wet despite the waterproof claim. I looked at the shoe and couldn’t find any visible holes so I’m not sure what going on. Maybe if you’re wearing these every once in a while or a couple times a week in not so wet environment, the shoes are great, but everyday wearing and thousands of steps per day, I don’t think it’s going to hold up well.
They showed up this morning, I put them on with some of the thicker socks I'd wear with my leather boots, my foot was instantly compressed, I thought "arg, this has been a consistently good size with this brand...," steped down a bit on the socks, tried again. Ah. That's better. Wore them for basic going to and being at work stuff and a little shopping while it's in the single digits. No complaints so far as they've been breaking in a bit. The leather lets me keep my boots on when I'd normally think I needed to change.
