Rated 5 out of 5 by from Purchased our second box We just purchased our second unit. We have used a Rocket for cross country trips, both summer and winter, for the past 4 years. It only takes minutes for one person to install, is noiseless while driving, has minimum effect on mileage and holds an amazingly large volume of stuff. All the locks and hinges still work perfectly and it still looks like new after thousands of miles on top of our van. The Rocket, which can be set up to open right or left, is narrow enough to place a second unit on top of our van and still have room to open. The Rocket is a well-designed and functional car top box without the price overkill reflected in many other similar units.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fits my Subaru perfectly I cross-country ski in winter and need one of Yakima's longer roof boxes for my own skis and my skiing companions' skis. My old Yakima box didn't fit my current "adventure" car, a 2006 Subaru Outback --- it hung over the back end of the car, prohibiting the hatch rear door from opening fully. I had read that this new "Pro" model would fit my car, but when I arrived at REI, even the salesman didn't believe that it would. Fortunately, he was wrong. The box is long enough for our skis (the longest ski is 203 cm), and the rear hatch door of the car can open fully. I'm looking forward to winter skiing and to not bashing my forehead on the rear hatch car door!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from It's a roofbox... Bought this box to take skis and snowboards up to the mountains and for that it works well. It'll fit 4 snowboards (barely) and the price is right. Downsides? The box is very flexy which makes opening and closing it a pain as the flex messes up the alignment of the locking system so you've got to apply just the right pressure to get it to open, very frustrating. The Skybox 12 is only $50 more, has a little more space, better clamps and better construction; I returned this and bought the Skybox, it's [$] well spent.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great box but cuts MPGs if u care I was able to buy this box for 120$ discount in the outlet section. So for 280$ it was a great buy. I use it mainly as a trunk on my SUV. I keep my rear seats folded flat like a truck, this box allows me to keep personal items and bags out of sight at night in the city. Door opening is nice and tall for loading. A great budget box made in the USA with 80% recycled plastic. It really does cut down on mpg's at least 2-3 for my 4runner. was getting 20mpg on the hwy now 17. but it does the job, other set back is you have to leave the key in the lock while loading. You cant load the box with the key out in an unlocked position. Have to lock the unit to be able to take the key out of the lock cylinder.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does what I need it to Plenty of room for skis, snowboards and most of the gear that goes with them and/or camping gear, backpacks, dirty boots etc. Fits nicely on my Subaru Forester. It's great to be able to not track a ton of dirt and snow in my car every time I'm out in the mountains.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Oustanding roof box for recent trip Purchased this as a second roof top to go along with current Thule one. Used for a 1500 mile college trip and worked beautifully. Both boxes very quiet, no rattle or concern for coming undone or opening. We were concerned with such a long trip but boxes were just great. We did pack them with light bulky stuff like linens, coats, etc, no suitcases. Highly recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rocket Box for Skis Approximately 10 years ago I purchased a Rocket Box from REI; found one on special (can't remember what I paid, but it was a good deal). Each year I drive from North Carolina to Summit County Colorado for a winter of skiing (arrive about New Years Day and leave about St. Pat's day) so 1,800 mile each way and use in the Rockies for 10 weeks (that's constant cycles of snow and sun with temps down to -35f). I carry upwards of six pair of skis and occasionally snow shoes, depending on how many friends I have visit. Finally, this year, the hinge opening on the left side of the box quit working (still closes, just doesn't care to open); so, I've moved it to the right side of my Highlander (nice have the ability to open from either side) and am expecting to get many more years of usage out of it. Also, over the years I have used the box for other trips (such as to Florida Keys for diving or visiting family at Xmas) when we had a few too many folks inside and needed extra luggage carrying capacity. So it has been useful on multiple occasions. It does flex a bit and I can see where someone might think it to be a bit flimsy; however, I challenge anyone to put something through the usage I have put this through and have it still doing the job it was purchased for and still looking good. It has been excellent and if I had to replace it tomorrow (I don't) I would feel that I had gotten more than my money's worth from it (and I would purchase another one just like it).

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Nice size, fits many vehicles, poor quality I bought this in April '16. I've taken it on two trips and the one of the hinges has already broken off the container wall. I have opened it at most 30 times.

Will the RocketBox Pro 11 attach to the crossbars on roof rack of my 2014 Subaru Outback wagon? The crossbars 30" center to center, and the rear crossbar is 21" back gate when it is in the raised the position.

Asked by: darwynl
The RocketBox Pro 11 will fit on your factory crossbars with no problem. To see if you will get any hatch interference when the box is mounted, follow this procedure: Move your front crossbar as far forward as it will go. Measure the distance from the center of the front crossbar to the hatch seam of your Outback. If that distance is less than 45 inches, your hatch will not open completely when you have the box on your roof.
