This thing is a GOD SEND!!
We fell in love with this carrier the first moment we strapped it on! It has been so well loved in our house for the last 10 months and we don't plan on taking it off anytime soon. When my daughter was born, we used a wrap, and when she was about 3 months old, and holding her head up, we decided to switch to a carrier. She was about 11 lbs at the time and we had gone with another carrier brand that was gifted to us at our shower... Despite not being so heavy.. our backs would just ache after wearing her for an hour. I immediately started doing some research and purchased the Ergobaby Performance. One of the BEST investments I've made in terms of baby gear. The padded straps, and all of the adjustable straps make it extremely easy to tailor the fit for any parent, and my husband and I can change the straps to make it most comfortable for us. We got the carrier right before summer hit and it came along on all of our adventures! We took my daughter to Hawaii and honestly, I don't think we would have survived the airport security and flight without it. I love the pocket it has in the front as I was able to easily store my cell phone and small zipper wallet, as well as the boarding passes. I was completely hands free felt so confident having the carrier, I took her to Chicago with me SOLO the following month.. I felt like Super Mom!! Whilst in Hawaii, we went on so many hikes and my daughter was perfectly happy in the Ergo! The sunshade offered extra protection from the sun and was a great feature to have for when she fell asleep in the Ergo (thank you Ergobaby sleepy dust!!) It also allowed us to go places our stroller couldn't like all of those crowded touristy spots and Turtle Beach where we just wanted to walk down real quick to see if we could find sea turtles (we did)!! We use this carrier for all of our everyday adventures, whether I'm running into the grocery store to grab just a few items, hiking through our city of San Diego, getting chores done at home during those hours when she just needs to be close and held by mama, or going on an evening walk with my hubby and our dog. We really can't live without our carrier. Can't recommend it enough. We have even purchased Ergo's for our expecting family members. My daughter is 14 months old and we don't plan on taking it off anytime soon. She loves to be back carried when we are hiking and adventuring. And my back never aches no matter how long our hike is. My mom and some family members even wear her when they watch her for us. Thank you Ergobaby for creating such a comfortable, breathable, versatile carrier! We love you guys!
LOVE this carrier
Pros - The ergo was the only carrier I could find where I could comfortably and easily carry our twins - one on the front and one on the back. Light weight and soft body for easy packing if the kiddos are at an age when they want to hike a bit. Sunshade. I found them easy to put on and take off. Small zipper pocket for wallet/keys/small snack. Con - My only con was that I was not a fan of using this with the infant insert when the littles were very small. It seemed bulky and awkward, so we got by using a moby wrap until they were big enough to ride in the ergo without the infant insert.
Worth every penny!
My husband and I got this as an alternative to our wrap carrier, we purchased the grey performance carrier and grey newborn insert and it is worth every penny! It's comfortable and easy for both of us to wear and our son really enjoys being carried in it!
Easy as click and go
I have tried many different baby carriers and I love my ergo performance for my toddler (2 years). I had tried an original ergo when he was an infant but it didn't fit me properly and dug into me. The performance is less bulky but still as supportive with the new padding, it also adjusts smaller then the original. The new materials are lightweight and airy. If you want to use it with an infant, you'll need the additional heart2heart insert. The Ergo is the only carrier we keep in the car these days and never leave home without it!
Couldn't live without it!
I live in the hot, humid south and my performance ergo is a much needed item. I never leave home without it and would love to have two so one could be a back up. Fortunately, this air dries quickly, so I only have to wash it on delicate after my son goes to bed and it's ready for our next outing by the morning. I prefer this carrier from about 4-5 months up until my kids outgrow it and would use it sooner but the infant insert just feels bulky to me. Compared to the regular ergo, I snap this one easily without help while the other one I had felt awkward to put on by myself. It is super light (a plus for hot months) and the side and back straps adjust with the use of one hand so I can re-position my baby to nurse. I simply lower him in the ergo and he is able to nurse. From the side, you can only see my shirt and so I'm not exposed. He's comfy nursing in this position and though I don't have to, I can always use the hood to cover him as well when he is eating. I would choose the performance ergo again and again if give the choice.
Super comfortable!
I purchased this about a month ago and I absolutely love it! I've read reviews that the shoulder straps are to scratchy if you are wearing a tank top when wearing the ergo and that the top squishes babies head against mom. So of course I was hesitant to purchase this carrier. I found the straps very comfortable and not scratchy at all and my baby is now 3 months and she fits perfectly, I use the infant insert with it to elevate my baby but I just use the pillow without the larger part of the infant insert and it works perfect for me and my baby. i love the material it keeps both me and baby cool especially when we watch big brother's soccer games :)
Poor design save your money
We bought this with high expectations, however the first time my husband put it on he immediately disliked it. It is impossible to put on or adjust one handed. All the adjustment straps and claspes are located behind your back and very difficult to adjust. Next to impossible for my husband whose shoulder was injured while in the military. If you have limited flexibility don't bother. Another discouraging thing was the fact that our baby girl found it to be uncomfortable. First time she ever fussed in a baby carrier. While the wider straps are nice and it seems more comfortable the adjustments and placements of straps really make the product subpar. Save your money.
Hip carry not comfortable with the Performance
My daughter is 8 months old and I just realized that the Performance is structured differently than the others. Since the shoulder straps are curved in the back (supposedly for comfort on longer treks), it makes it very uncomfortable to use the hip carry. Had I have known this, I would have purchased one of the other models. I only bought the performance for the lighter fabric. I am only taking away a star for this reason. Other than that, I like the Ergo. My daughter unfortunately prefers a different brand carrier because she likes to face forward. The 360 was not available when I bought my Performance.
WE LOVE OUR PERFORMANCE CARRIER!
It took Simon a few months to be ready for this carrier, but once he hit 6 months, he loved it! He's a huge baby and it's hard to carry him around, but with this carrier it's a breeze. It somehow distributes all his weight on my hips, so it feels almost like nothing! I like the clean simple design and that it's very gender neutral so my hubby wears it all the time too! Huge fans of all things ergobaby!
Love it.
I use my Ergo everyday and regret not buying sooner. I got it when the baby was three months and it has worked well. It's easy to wear and quick to take off. It is also machine washable. I'd recommend getting the teething pads also because the straps will get chewed/sucked on.
