Comfortable and lightweight, awesome carrier!
10/10, would absolutely recommend! This carrier is so lightweight and way more comfortable than anything else I've tried. It's my go to for day trips, festivals, and navigating city crowds/stairs when I don't want to deal with a stroller. The storage is great, and even after a five mile hike I felt totally fine with no back or hip pain at all. It sits really well on your hips and has awesome support and cushioning. I also love the back design as it gives so much more head mobility than other carriers I've used. And the detachable chin cushion is such a nice touch, perfect for naps and super easy to throw in the wash.
Great for long hikes with little ones
I’ve been using the Deuter Kid Comfort Active for hikes around Michigan with my 1 and 3 year old, and it’s been awesome. Super comfortable carry even on longer outings. The weight distribution is solid and doesn’t wreck your back like some cheaper carriers. The kid setup is dialed too. Easy to get them in and out, and they seem comfortable and secure the whole time. The kickstand is really stable when loading, which is a big plus when you’re solo. A few standout things: * Ventilation is legit — doesn’t get overly sweaty on warmer days * Storage is surprisingly good for snacks, layers, and essentials * Adjustability makes it easy to dial in fit quickly Only downside is it’s still a bit bulky, so not ideal for tighter trails or quick outings. But for real hikes, it’s exactly what you want. Overall, I’d definitely recommend it if you’re planning to spend real time on trail with your kids.
Solid lightweight pack!
Performed well on our first two uses! The instruction guide helps get this pack adjusted for adult and child, so everyone is comfortable. It was very light weight and breathable, without sacrificing security for my son. The kickstand is sturdy and well balanced so getting him in is easy and stable as I got him buckled and comfortable. The waist belt has a small zipper pack that did fit my phone but just barely, so some phones may not fit, but it is a nice addition! The mesh storage underneath the child seat is decent sized and fit a spare toddler coat, and either snacks or a few diapers even. Sunshade did not come with it, but would be a nice addition.
Lightweight, intuitive, sleek, yet pinches
I received these products for free from the REI Trailblazers sampling program in exchange for my honest review. Overall Impressions: A Lightweight Win for Local Adventures I recently had the chance to test out the Deuter Kid Comfort Active Child Carrier on a mile-long loop in the Albuquerque foothills. With the weather warming up and the trails calling, it was the perfect test run for this pack. Design & Performance Right out of the box, the first thing you notice is how incredibly light this carrier is. When you're packing a 35-lb toddler (approaching the 48-lb/22-kg total weight capacity), having a featherlight frame makes a massive difference. Aesthetically, it’s a sleek, sharp-looking piece of gear—the design is modern, and the colors are fantastic. Functionally, it hits the mark for ease of use. I didn't even need to crack open the instruction manual; the setup is entirely intuitive. Adjusting the straps and getting everything tightened down was a breeze, and once it was on, it felt rock-solid. The weight distribution was impressive—it felt stable, secure, and genuinely ergonomic throughout the steep inclines and descents of our hike. The air-flow system worked perfectly, keeping things comfortable despite the physical effort. Child-Friendly Features My favorite functional feature is the side-entry/exit. It’s brilliant. The pack stands securely on its own thanks to the sturdy kickstand, allowing my 3.5-year-old to climb in and out independently. She told me she felt very secure and had a blast being up high for the view. Areas for Improvement While I love the minimalist approach—sometimes less is more compared to bulkier, pocket-heavy packs—there are a few areas that could use refinement for the passenger's comfort: Passenger Comfort: My daughter mentioned that the thigh loops were pinching and scratching her, which was a bit of a letdown. Footrests: While the adjustable footrests are a great inclusion, they didn’t extend quite far enough for her. She found them uncomfortable on our hike, and I'd love to see a bit more range there. Accessories: It’s worth noting that the "Active" model does not come with a sun shade or rain cover included. For our sunny NM afternoons, this is definitely something I’ll need to pick up separately to keep her protected. The Verdict Despite those few comfort tweaks needed for the kiddo, this is an outstanding, high-quality product. It’s lightweight, simple to adjust, and a joy to hike with. If you're looking for a streamlined, reliable way to get your little one out on the trail, the Deuter Kid Comfort Active is a top-tier choice.
Great pack to enjoy outdoors with kid
Perfect pack to enjoy the outdoors with your little one. It’s really sturdy. I love the that the part under the mouth comes off for easy washing. It has good packing space for other gear and it’s very light but very comfortable.
