Outer Glove Best Part of Glove

I had originally bought these gloves to use as a lightweight pair of backpacking gloves. I liked the idea of being able to house an outer shell in the zippered pouch and being able to convert the gloves to a pair of windproof and waterproof gloves using the outer shell. I typically backpack in colder weather with daytime highs in the 30's, 40's, 50's. These glove will not keep your hands warm. My hands were always cold wearing these gloves (inner glove only) but not to the point of being uncomfortable. My hand were slightly warmer wearing the inner glove and outer glove combinations. The outer shell is the true gem of this glove. I have since ditched the inner glove and now use a pair of regular fleece gloves which do keep my hands warms. I use the outer shell when backpacking in wet weather to keep my fleece gloves dry. Really wished someone would make a pair of fleece gloves with a zippered pocket and a windproof/waterproof outer shell or someone would manufacture a windproof/waterproof outer shell made to go over a fleece glove. I would only recommend buying these gloves for the outer shell only.

Good liners, good shells, in 1 package!

I wear these everyday while biking to work. There are really two gloves here: the insulating liners and the water-resistant shells. The liners keep my hands warm down to about 28 degrees, but keep in mind I am biking so the wind is probably a factor there. I've worn the shells over the liners for extra protection, but not yet by themselves. Either way, they've kept my hands dry enough. Bonus: the rubber grips on the fingers of the liners make it possible to use these with my iPhone, but I'm guessing They'll wear away too much after only 1 season. Also, the back-of-hand pockets make perfect hand warmer compartments!

Surprisingly Warm

WARMTH I used these gloves with the shell on comfortably down to -25F actual temp (no wind) snowshoe camping trip. They kept my hands comfortable enough that even though I had a bigger pair of mitts, I didn't use them. SHELL I really like the ability to hide the shell for each glove inside of the pocket on the back of the palm. This makes them accessible and easy to keep track of. As you might expect, the shells are proficient at keeping the wind from numbing you fingers and also shedding water. I had good luck keeping my hands dry while kayaking on a cold day with these. OTHER FEATURES I also like the large loops on the bottom of each glove that allow easy clipping and hanging from carabiner. Also, there is a nice buckle that clips the gloves together as as a set which works well. Not touchscreen compatible, though sometimes it seems like they work. DURABILITY The liner material is very sturdy and stood up to chopping wood and hiking with hiking poles very well. They were also fine climbing trees. The liners are thin but also seem pretty sturdy. As with any thin synthetic material, be careful of it melting near flames though. The one issue I had with these seems to be a build quality. On both pairs of liners I have, the hems at the wrist are coming unsewn. However, I like the gloves enough that i'm going to exchange them for a new pair and see if those hold up better. RECOMENDATION Great all purpose glove system for cold temps if it isn't too wet out. I dig em!

Good Versatility

I like the option to wear the liner alone and with the waterproof slip-over. I wear the liner in cool weather and for driving when also cool. Combined they are still lightweight and flexible, and the slip-over is fully waterproof. And together they are slim enough to slide under a raincoat sleeve cuff to provide a waterproof seal. My only issue with the gloves was what size to purchase. My hand measured close to the medium but I ordered both that and large. Large was the best fit so I recommend others consider that the gloves may be a bit undersized.

Great flexibility hiking between rain and/or cold

I bought a pair for my girlfriend at Christmas after using a pair myself for the last two years. I like the gloves for keeping the hands warm-enough while working hard in the mountains, but not too warm that they need to be removed. The real benefit is the removable rain-proof shells that can be put on in wet conditions, and easily removed again. This is great when trying to keep pace in the mountains without stopping and opening the pack to get heavier Gor-Tex gloves in a downpour. Perfect for the moderate temperatures and often wet conditions of the Pacific Northwest!

Good, but a few issues

I really like these gloves, I got tired of the lousy pairs that soak up water and/or leave your hands freezing cold due to poor insultion that you get at local stores and was determined to find a pair at REI. I didn't need a set that had the long cuffs for winter sports, but I wanted some of the weather-resistant qualities they have. Not so easy to do. The good part is that these gloves do a good job with versatility. You have the cool-weather cloth liner that gives decent grip and good insulative qualities. I wish it had PED touch screen finger-tips, but hey, you can't have everything. The slip-on shell does a gvery good job of keeping out water and wind. I used this set of gloves outdoors with my kid in the foot of snow we just got, they were warm and comfortable. The one thing I like about the gloves is also something I don't like - the removable shell. It's great they're removable and you can stash them in back of the hand zipper pouch, but they fit too loosely over the glove. They have almost no grip. I found myself having to pull the shell back down over the glove on several occasions to keep snow out from between the shell and liner. Being slippery it was often hard to keep a sure grip on anything as the liner tried slipping off the glove or the object out of one's hand. These gloves really need some sort of "keeper" for the shell, either an elastic band, a snap, hook or velcro, to keep it in place. If they could do this and maybe add some grip material for the shell fingertips, the gloves would be perfect. Would I get these gloves again? Yes, unless I could find something better.

best lightweight gloves i have owned

It is about time someone made a waterproof glove that was comfortable yet allowed your hand motions to remain dexterous as well as having enough grip to twist objects when needed. the lightweight rainproof outer-shell fits, un-noticed into a zippered pouch set over the back of the hand. Brilliant. Weighs in at 3oz

Solid winter gloves

I've had these for about two weeks and they're very practical. This is my first winter cycling and I didn't want to deal with huge bulky gloves and liners. It might be pushing it to call them stylish, but they are sleeker than most others and not bulky, something that makes gripping my bike's handlebars much easier than I imagine larger gloves would do. For temperatures with windchill below the high 20s, I need handwarmers -- but another reason I chose these gloves is the convenient handwarmer pouch. The liners seem very thin but are a great addition on windy days and really do cut down the cold. I actually bought two pairs, in part because i lost the liners for mediums, but then discovered that I can fit them over my dressy leather gloves on really cold days (for me, that's when it gets in the low 20s or teens and below). The mediums are a little tight, but I like these enough to buy another pair in large, which should give a little more room for the leathers and replace the liners I lost. The men's medium alone on my hands (I'm female) are a tad large, but workable.

Versatile Gloves

These gloves are a perfect combination of warmth and durability. They are a bit tight around the wrist - but in a good way that keeps the cold/snow out. I wore them (with the shell) in 25 degree evening while camping and they kept me happy, I wouldn't push much below that temperature though.

Performing well down to zero degrees Farenheit

I like the versatility of these gloves to be worn as is, or take out the windproof layer from the pockets on top of the gloves. For very cold days, but a hand warmer into the pocket and these gloves will keep you nice and toasty. Worn without the windproof shell they perform well in early morning- or late afternoon chill weather. With the wind shell over them they do well into the 20 degree range, and any colder than that, put some hand warmers into the top pocket and you'll be good to go to the single digits for a while. These serve for a wide range of activities.
