Outdoor Research  Lost Coast Fingerless Mittens

I got this for super cold weather after seeing my husband's but the quality has gone downhill. I'm not even sure it'll be as warm as before... The mitten portion used to be white sherpa but is now made of some blue plasticy feeling rough curly fleece which isn't as soft or warm as sherpa as advertised (yes sherpa is fleece but not all fleece is sherpa). It's also a bit tighter around the mitten pocket compared to before. The label and description says it's part suede but the palm part that was suede in the past is now replaced with some thin slightly fuzzy polyester made to look like suede. It doesn't look like suede, smell or feel like suede. You can even see the woven fibers making up the faux suede. The price hasn't gone down despite the degradation of this product and the labels lie about the materials. If you look at the materials list itself, you'll see there's no mention of suede/leather. The thin material probably won't last as long as actual leather. A serious disappointment in this long standing highly rated company. If you are fully knowledgeable about what you are actually receiving vs what is marketed, then buy these gloves. They are probably still warm based off others reviews though I don't know when the product changed, and the thin fleece inside the glove keeps you warm. The wool (probably still real) knit is also thicker than others of similar convertible glove/mitten types. The length down the wrist has also gotten longer than before. It's not all bad, I'm just disappointed in their misleading marketing and lower quality product when they're supposed to be a company known for quality products and it has made me lose a lot of trust in them.

First of all, the sizing was way off from the size chart. Based on the measurements of my hand, I was right in line with a size medium, but when I tried them on after they arrived, they were huge! I should have ordered a size down. Second of all, the sticking holding the mitt flap to the glove started unraveling within minutes of use. I’ve only worn them once for a couple of hours, but the mitt flaps are only barely hanging on and, couple with the weird sizing, it makes me not want to wear them anymore. I can try to get the stitching redone and reinforced, but I shouldn’t have to do that for a brand new glove. They were warm though, so there’s that.

I loved the Fingerless Mitts—the tight-knit quality and the added magnets were fabulous touches. However, I had to return them because the palm length was an inch too long for me. While I considered washing and shrinking them (as they’re wool), I didn’t want to risk it at this price. For reference, I have medium-sized female hands with long fingers and ordered a small. Men with similar sizing might find them a better fit, but a women's version would have been perfect. The thumb length was perfect. The only other drawback was the palm patch—not actual suede, which I would expect at this price point. Otherwise, the quality and design were top-notch.

These are the warmest gloves I've found that afford significant dexterity. The magnet latch for the mitten is brilliant because it is quick, quiet, and reliable. In addition general outdoor chores, my particular need is for biking in winter. With the mittens on, I can confidently control the bike and keep my hands warm. For those times when I need to operate the phone or GPS with my fingers, I can instantly flip the mitten back and forth minimizing the chill to said fingers. BUT the durability is a disappointment. The thumbs have worn through and the palm stitching has failed in short order. All that said, fearing these gloves would be discontinued and that there is no competition, I bought 2 more pairs so I'll have good glove for a couple more winters.

These glove are not built for my hand, L gloves do not fit me, only XL and XXL. The fingers are very tight, however, my pinky finger barely emerges from the glove, giving no fingerless benefit. The closeover flap is also super narrow, so your fingers get a bit compressed. I've spent quite a bit of time stretching the width of the finger and flap just to get it fit a little better. I think if you had pencil stick fingers (very long and super skinny) they would work better. This is really too bad, because the construction is really good, the fit is just poor. I can't help but feel they just scaled up a M glove without finding a real person to see if they would work.

I bought these to wear over thin liner gloves. I had the same type of mitten, but a cheaper version, in size medium which was a tight fit, so I ordered a large. Wore the Lost Coast Fingerless Mitts on two hikes. They fit like mediums, but these are very warm unlike the ones they replaced. While hiking the pinky would come out of the mittens while using the hiking poles. Used them in temps around 10 degrees, windy and the last hike had wind gusts up to about 30 mph.

I tried these on at a local store. They had medium, large and x-large on hand. The large was exactly right. The fingers are far too long, and too small. In fact they cut off the circulation to my fingers. My pinky and ring finger do not emerge out of the end. Something is off about these. My wife tried them on, and he comment was - these really are small. Her hands are, of course, much smaller than mine. No returns in this program, so I'll have to look around for someone who might be able to modify them so that they are useful. I bet if these fit properly, they would be nice gloves/mitts.

A great pair of convertible mitten/gloves for hiking or everyday exercise. I have used these here in Mongolia down to temperatures down to -20F successfully. I really like the magnetic locking back of the mitten cover. I have two recommendations for upgrades first. The glove flip over piece is a little tight. Widen it or add an elastic stretch piece. The tightness can cut off my pinky finger a little and could be more comfortable. The second is some type of better protector for the thumb. Additionally a thumb piece that allows for touch device use without opening gloves.

Both the flaps fell off within a week. Shocking as I only used them a couple times. It was like the stitch was not tied off. For the price I am very displeased.

I like these a lot--the material is comfortable, they're very warm, they're versatile because of the convertibility, but they're not without their problems. They seem to be designed for someone with fingers that are all exactly the same length, and I'm sure if that person existed they would fit them perfectly, but I'm not that person. The material has a bit of fuzz coming off it already and I expect it will pill up substantially, too, so I have to have my fabric shaver ready some time soon. But I really do like them! There are just some small annoyances.
