Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent hiking boot in many climates I rarely write product reviews, but I've been so pleased with these I feel obligated. I purchased these boots after moving to Colorado, looking for a comfortable and supportive hiking boot for day hikes and occasional backpacking over rough terrain. After a slightly uncomfortable break-in period of a few hikes (~15 miles total) these have been extremely comfortable. Ankle support is good, and traction is excellent on all surfaces including rock, both wet and dry. On a recent trip to Scotland I wore them on multiple rainy hikes through ankle-deep water and muck in the bogs of the Highlands. I never had a drop of water inside these boots. Fantastic performance!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Boots at a Great Price In planning my first 50+ mile trip, it was time for me to find a good pair of boots that wouldn't break the bank. I tried (and returned) 3 other brands before I found these. They were the perfect balance of support and comfort for me. After over 200 miles, I love these boots more than at first. The multiple lace points allow easy micro-adjustments. The tread is not too stiff but has been awesome on multiple terrain. I have gotten heel blisters after 20+ miles without using moleskin, but I think this is due more to getting boots 1/2 size too big. I've started tying the laces at the lower and upper ankle and this has made a noticeable difference.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Sole separated after 50 miles I had a pair of Keens before this and wanted something similar but with a longer life. Not so much and I only had 50 miles on these over two backpacking trips and one trail maintenance weekend. On a recent section hike of the AT the front of the sole started to separate. I hate returning stuff, feels defeating after spending time researching but I will be bringing these back. After more research, I think it is worthwhile to buy a Zamberlan or Danner or something that can be resoled. I appreciated the out of the box comfort these offer but I need durability and it looks like the only way to get it is to pay up for the real deal.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A pleasant surprise I bought these right before a last minute trip to Arizona. I had procrastinated on buying a new pair of boots so this happened to be the only pair I really liked in the 2 hrs. I had to shop. The REI tech swore I wouldn't have to break them in and I was really skeptical so I bought some liner socks and mole skin just in case. Voila, no need to break them in! They served me well in my two days of hiking in Sedona and the Grand Canyon (in snow and ice mind you!). If I had a complaint or two...they were stiff in the ankle a bit too much but eased up by the second day. Also, they are very waterproof and my feet did get warm/wet from sweat at times even in the snow. Bottom line, I highly recommend these. The soles and heel especially feel solid and are top notch!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great hiking boots I'm one good hike in on these boots, having just done a short two hour jaunt in the foothills of the mountains north of Zagreb. The trail was pretty rough, at least compared to some of the other trails I've hiked lately. These boots saved my feet, ankles, knees for sure. Not only did I not need to plan every single step around a finding a smooth surface, I could basically flop my foot anywhere and be assured of comfort and solid grip. And speaking of comfort, these are the most comfortable of any type of shoe I've ever worm. Also, it was a pretty warm day, and despite being water-proof, I never recall thinking to myself my feet were too hot. Highly recommend.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good shoe for most hiking needs Have used this boot for most of my hiking and backpacking needs with NO complaints. This shoe is easy to break in, very comfortable, light weight, and looks great. However, I would not recommend it for backpacking moderate loads (35-45 lbs) over very rocky terrain for longer hikes (more than 8 miles). The shank is too soft for the constant pounding, and you will start to feel every rock on the ball, arch, or heel of your feet. A stronger shank would help in these conditions, but I suspect you would trade off some comfort on those days when you don't need the stiffness. I would buy a boot with a stiffer/harder shank for those trails, but still pick my Oboz for all the other needs.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Decent Boot Bought these at the recomendation of an REI rep. Not knocking this guy, he provided as much info as he had. Initially I was thinking I had found a super new boot, but soon learned that my feet were soaked inside the boot and there was no wicking action at all. I wear different brands of boots, Asolo, La Sportiva and Keen and have not experienced this issue at the level I did with these. I would recomend these to a freind whose feet don't sweat a lot....

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Durability was the problem for me The boots were comfortable, and the light weight was refreshing compared to my old heavyweight leather boots. However, after 2 day hikes at Mt. Hood and a 6-day backpacking trip in the Olympics, the rubber at the toe was separating from the rest of the boot. Obviously they needed to be returned.

Oboz shoes and boots are good for the heart and sole

Bozeman-based Oboz plants a tree for every pair it sells, runs its Montana office on windpower, and donates shoes to those in need. Oh, and they biomechanically engineer their footwear to be incredibly comfortable, too.
