I’ve done two short backpacking trips this spring in the Missouri Ozarks. First in the Irish Wilderness section of the Mark Twain National Forest and then at Taum Sauk State Park. Classic Ozark mountain glades; not to be trod upon lightly. Trekking poles strongly recommended. I get untouchable in these boots. Like Godzilla stomping through Tokyo. The trail at Irish Wilderness hasn’t been tended to in years and I would not even have attempted it if I hadn’t felt such confidence in these boots to get me through the brush and over the boulder fields. The trail at Taum Sauk was in much better shape, but heavy rains early in the day meant that much of the trail was stream by the time I arrived. I forded a swollen creek in these boots and was thereby convinced of their waterproofing. I’ve gotten many Oboz boots but never the heavy duty kind. The Cottonwood mids in 9.5 have been my go to for a while. I wear them every day at work, walking on level concrete. For backpacking they say to go a 1/2 size up and so I did. Money very well spent.
