Rugged and stable
Love my Blackwater, and have paddled it for 10 years after purchasing it used. I am able to flip it over and lift it onto the roof of my van by myself 67 year old female), although it easier with some help. It has a drop down skeg that helps it track straight and adds to its stability, which is excellent. It is easily retractable if you need more maneuverability. I have used it for numerous kayak camping trips and remove the foam block in the bow to accommodate a small tent and several dry bags. I stow my sleeping bag and a small dry bag in the waterproof hatch, and daypack and water behind the seat. It handles well loaded with gear, or not, and it’s been used in 2 1/2’ whitecaps and stiff wind. Under those conditions, I’ve also used a kayak cockpit skirt. This is a tough boat and is fine being dragged up onto pebble beach, and I have no doubt it’ll last me for many years to come. The seal between the cockpit and the dry hatch failed this past summer, but I was able to reseal it by using a lot of spray Flex Seal. I should have used the Flex Seal putty instead. Regardless, this model has been discontinued but Dagger appears to have a comparable model on the market. Just an excellent all around recreational kayak!!
