Cheap!
Purchased this knife about 18 months ago. The blade is starting to come loose but the real problem is one of the two screws holding the pocket clip has stripped out. Tried to epoxy it back together to no avail. I have another Gerbing knife I purchased ten+ years ago and it's still in great shape. That knife has U.S.A stamped on the blade. The one falling apart does not.
Not bad. Could be better
Bought this to carry at work. I like that the clip design allowed it to be clipped inside a pocket without the top sticking out. Fit and finish are nice, the blade is sharp and it's a nice lightweight knife. But... It's very stiff to open. I had to remove the clip and loosen the Torx screw that holds the blade in place to get it to open easily and smoothly. (I then used some blue Loctite to keep the screw in place). The blade lock is VERY stiff, because it's too long. I'm tempted to remove it and shave just a tiny bit of it off with a bench grinder. It's just WAY too stiff because of it's length. As much as I like Gerber products and own other knives of theirs, I'm not a huge fan of this one, but since I've got it "tuned" as I want it, I'll keep it.
El
Wow, I'm completely blown away once again by Gerber/Fiskars knives. I have one of their old x-frame type folding knife, had it for approx. 2 years. I've had the Fiskars 14" hatchet about 1 yr., and it cuts wood fine to this day. I am most recently taken aback by their Gerber evo w/serrated edge. Feels great in the hand, holds a sharp edge for the most part, and it has a standard length blade. For a knofe this lightweight, you'd expect maybe cheaper materials or smaller amounts of material, but Gerber did fine in this dept. Great EDC. I work in a shop environment and I don't go easy on my tools, especially my knives.
Not great
I got one of these in a multi pack with a "Dime" multi tool. Honestly I was not impressed with either product. The issues with the EVO are as follows: the liner lock gets stuck every time the knife is opened (you need to use another knife blade to un jam it), the blade is horribly crooked in the handle, the pivot is really stiff and requires a ton of extra flick from your wrist to get it open one handed, and last but certainly not least the blade holds an edge for a few cuts then is barely as sharp as a butter knife. Worst Gerber product I have ever purchased hands down.
Junk
was not happy with this knife what so ever..bought this for my girlfriend originally but she didn't like the action of how it opened..i than decided to give it a shot and I couldn't have agreed with her more, the opening action on this knife is awful..i am in law enforcement and this knife did not meet either of our needs or expectations....the knife felt cheap in the hand..the blade was sharp and was a solid, but the handle and overall product performance was a fail...
Fine blade but poor hex screws
For the first 3 months, I enjoyed the knife immensely - has a great blade, shape and it is light weight. Unfortunately it fist started to rattle, then quickly fell apart as the hex screws came loose. If you look at the knife you can understand my difficulty in fixing it. I then swapped it out for another one (same model) but the exact same thing happened, but this second time I threw it out instead of sending it in for a replacement. So beware.
Daily carry material
I purchased this knife to replace a gerber paraframe which disappointed me when the frame screws came loose in the backcountry, I have carried every variety over the years and this has come to be the knife on my hip everyday. As a knife for general use, cutting rope, wood, wire, rubber, plastic, metal it holds up surprisingly well. As with any blade it does dull over time, but a properly done resharpening occasionally will keep it in working condition. It never leaves my side on extended (10+) day treks and is extremely reliable. The pivot screw comes from the factory very stiff, but after some use it becomes a smooth reflex. If you should notice potential problems with the frame screws, pull them all out, coat them in loctite, then retighten. The only detriment to the design is that oversight which over time can result in the frame becoming loose
Engineer
I have the large EVO serrated. I have benchmade and kershaw folders full auto or flipper opening. The best feature of this knife is the weight and it fits easily in a pocket. I will complain about the one handed opening though. The thumb screw is useless as its not positioned to get leverage for easy opening. The flipper is too small to get leverage also. I can open it one handed about 70% of the time otherwise it just sticks half way and I have to wrist flip it open. Still a great carry knife but really should not be advertised as a one handed opener.
Man of Action
I owned a couple of the EVO tanto blades before this, because I thought they looked cool...which they do. The smooth arc of this blade makes sharpening easier, and let's face it...it a classy piece of work. Same stuff as others have said: I use my knife every day, owned a number of styles, this is my hands-down favorite, slim and lightweight with solid mechanics, comfortable on the pocket with a sturdy clip. Maybe too comfortable...I've lost three EVO knives at security checkpoints (concert, county fair, airport) because I'd forgotten it was there.
Happily Reunited
I have owned this knife since 2011 And have carried it to many days on the job from cutting open bundles of shingles to prying staples and cutting open literally thousands of boxes. It has even stayed tightly fastened to my pocket in 34 States when I was an over the road truck driver with my father. A few months back when I moved from an ex girlfriends my knife was lost due to her hasty packing habits. And to be honest I was more upset about losing this knife than losing the woman at hand. I purchased another knife which was just not the same and no sooner than a week later I was reunited with my trusty old Tanto. Very ecstatic I chucked the replacement knife in the drawer. (Also a Gerber) And have since continued carrying "Ole Faithful" once again ☺
