Rated 4 out of 5 by from I am buying this product again! Having moved to Southern Mexico, where mosquitoes are a year-round treat, I installed this mosquito net over our queen bed. It has been a life saver and even our cat has taken to sleeping INSIDE the net, having learnt how to get into the thing. The down side is that you do need a place on the ceiling from which to suspend it. We have used it intensively for a year now and it is still in fairly good shape, although I did have to apply my sewing skills in various spots near the bottom.. I am now buying another one to cover my soon-to-arrive newborn and his/her crib, so it's good stuff!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Holes are large The holes are quite large, making me uneasy about how effective it would be against many tiny biting insects. It would be better if the net was pre-treated with permethrin since holes are so large. It would be easier to put up if a roll of tape was included and it could be taped from the ceiling...as such we always needed to find two fairly level points from which to tie string on which we'd suspend the net. The large holes DO mean that in warm weather, the net feels cooler. It was fairly light and easy to pack away and did give us a little peace of mind knowing that no gigantic spiders were crawling into our ears!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from quality control needed Good product, replacing "Spider" net of some years ago. Bamboo top spreader frame folds for good packing into cylindrical shape, 3" diameter x14" length. Used to be made in Thailand, now made in China and inferior quality. Bamboo frame comes with rough edges and splinters that will tear insert pockets. I returned one, but the replacement was as rough, so I sanded the frame with fine sandpaper. If yours is rough or sharp-edged, sand frame "fingers" and tips before using, to prevent tearing net. The bamboo is not as good straight-grain quality as before. Also check all net seams for evidence of poor quality sewing, before using it in the field (a stitch in time saves nine). I still strongly recommend this net for serious users because of its design and utility. A compact, folding spreader frame (more compact than the collapsible hoop in some nets) helps keep net away from body. General quality of the net is good; mosquito nets are, by nature, fragile and will need to be mended or replaced eventually. This net does the job, but manufacturer needs to improve quality control on frame fingers and net seams. (I also recommend permethrin treatment, either by buying the pre-treated net or treating it yourself; if the latter, I advise permethrin soak, if you can find it, rather than the spray.) Bottom line: REI should keep offering this net, but insist that manufacturer use better grade bamboo; make sure the fingers are smooth; and reinforce net seams.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Buying another one We bought the Mombasa Nimbus Mosquito Net to take to the Baja last year and were very happy with it. We slept outside on our porch beneath the netting every night for the 5 months we were down there. I washed it a half dozen times and it was no problem to reassemble in a few minutes. We raised and lowered it every day and did have to replace the hanging string on top due to fraying from running through the eyelet. It held up under big winds and kept out all but the tiniest of bugs. On a double bed there is plenty of netting to tuck in and still have lots of headroom. We were very grateful to have it, allowing us to sleep under the stars every night. I am buying another one today so we will have an extra.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Looks decent Looks decent, for the price. Setup=5min. Only problems could be if not able to mount hook to ceiling and no way to seal fly. Best to pack some safety pins & a sewing kit.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from 2 Stars to be nice After spending many hours with the focus of many, trying to insert said bamboo into the fabric sleeves turned into quite the fiasco caused by the multiple slivers on each "stick" catching on every attempt. This problem was first solved by using a staple gun, but in the end did not turn this poor product into a good one, so alas, we quit.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Mosquito net - poor design The design is poor with a single thin ribbon holding the hanging rung to the netting. tried it out in the backyard and broke on first use, making it unusable. This sort of quality from REI is so dessappointing. I expect them to leve the lifestyle as a coop.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No bites and great sleeps at night! Great quality product and plenty big for a queen bed. A good sleep without being awakened by blood sucking masquitos in the tropics is priceless! Tested well in Cuba!
