One of the top bug nets available!
ENO hit it out of the park with this bug net. It's spacious, but also compact, lightweight, and easy to set up. This bug net provides protection from flying pests, and the headroom and width allow for a comfortable night's sleep. There's no ridgeline to set up, and the cords at each end allow you tension properly. The symmetric design, with doors on each side and a storage pocket on each end, makes setting it up easier. I used the ENO Guardian bug net, but it is bigger than I want for backpacking. I also used the Sea to Summit bug net, but it was a pain to set up and hung only inches above my face. This Guardian DX is a great balance between size, weight, and comfort.
Safe from bugs.
I used this at Yellowstone for 5 days and I was safe from the mosquitoes. It was comfortable and easy to get in and out of.
ENO Guardian DX Bug Net - Good in a pinch
This is like a 3.5 for me. it’s pretty streamlined — not very tall — so it can be a little awkward to get in and out. The spreader pole adds some structure so it keeps the bug net off of you. The thing I didn’t like is that the pole is kept in place with a button snap, which is a weird design choice, imo. Unless I’m doing something wrong, it doesn’t secure the pole in place so you lose a little of the tension. I prefer hammocks with built-in bug nets, especially if they have spreaders or tie-outs. But this is well-made and will keep bugs from joining you in your hammock. It’s a less bulky bug net for ENO-length hammocks.
Say goodbye to mosquito bites!
I cannot say enough about this bug net. I absolutely love it! It took me a minute to figure out the spreader bar and tightening the ends to lift the bar but once you get it, it only takes minutes to hang.
Love this Guardian DX over all other versions
I love this Guardian DX version over all previous and current versions. I like the lighter weight, the roominess, the speader bar, entry/exit on both sides and the storage areas. I also like the fact thst mosquitos cant bite me through bottom of my hammock. I sprayed my net with Sawyers Permethrin forvextra protection. Wish the DX had premium YKK zippers and some glow in the dark zipper pulls for the premium price. A few more hooks to hang things from ridgeline would be nice too.
The Product Doesn't Suck!
I've used many of the current bug net designs on the market and IMO, this design is the best. My previous bug net (ENO Guardian) worked well 99% of the time but there were a few things I would've changed if I could've. Well the DX addressed these things and now it's the perfect bug net. It's lighter and has more interior space. The dual doors help with ventilation, views and accessibility. Love it and look forward to using it on my next adventure.
Take care of this and it will take care of you.
This is a fantastic produce and one that I can’t imagine being without now that I have it. A lot of reviews are bashing this for durability with the zippers and mesh - I have had no such issues. I will say I am more meticulous with my gear than most so I take great care when using, setting up, and packing out my stuff and through about a years worth of use my Guardian is as functional as day 1. Take care of this thing and it will take care of you.
Broke on second use
I used this bug net twice, and on the second use the zipper broke. I didn’t do anything to it, I just gently zipped it up like normal and the zipper completely separated. One of the threads isn’t even going through the runner anymore. What’s worse: I’m in swamplands in the middle of the summer. Don’t spend your money on a name brand that’s going to break when you need it the most.
Great but could use 2 improvements
The Eno Guardian DX is better and lighter than my original Guardian Bug Net. The only advantage that the orignal one has over this one is the bag is attached to it so I did not have to worry about it getting lost. This one has a separate bag. This one requires no ridgeline so you save the time of setting up a ridgeline as well as the weight of the paracord. The reason 4 for the 4 stars is due to it not having an attached bag as well as another problem. The problem that repeatedly happened while using it for 4 nights on the trip, is that the pole that keeps the net high and off your face has a design problem. The problem is the section that you insert the pole into. One end is sewn shut, which is good and the other end has strap material which you fold over and snap. The pole kept popping out of the side where it is snapped. Eno s hould have sewn both sides of the snap end shut (3/4 of the way so you could still get the pole in) . Had they done this, it could not pop out of the side. It is not just a matter of pushing the pole back due to tension. You have to unsnap it, take the whole pole out which is not exactly easy because it wants to separate and come out in sections, and then reinsert the pole, and then snap it shut again. I will be sewing the sides shut so this cannot happen anymore. Overall, it is a good set up and I would recommend it.
Avoid!!
I'm 6' 2" tall, back pain. Very hard to get into, zipper broke on first time I got on hammock, crazy hard to get out of. Go with older bug net model without spreader bar since it is bigger but heavier than this one. This one let me down on first night of Florida bike touring, had to use it as a blanket bug net on first night.
