I ordered this jacket because the outlet price (plus coupon) was great for a warm, high-quality winter jacket. I returned it because it was too tight under the arms, as mentioned in some other reviews. That's a problem I've never experienced with any other jacket from Patagonia. It seems strange because the other dimensions were great and an XL would have been too big. I always wear size large with Patagonia and have never had a problem with the fit before. For comparison, I'm 5'11" and weigh 185 pounds, 44" chest.
I have been using a designer-branded heavy down jacket for the past few years. It was okay. But this is a major upgrade. Much lighter, more compact, and warmer. The hood fits well when needed. The flannel-lined interior is extremely soft and comfortable. Initially, I was concerned about the moisture with it being cotton. I've been caught in the snow/sleet wearing this jacket twice and didn't have an issue. The only thing I would improve is a bigger interior pocket so I can cook my winter gear dry better.
This is all cotton. As long as it's not raining outside, this coat is great. The material is very comfortable and soft inside and out, and it breathes well. Hood is thick and warm. Even the hand pockets are warm. I got it in 2XL and it's true to size with a bit of room underneath for a long sleeve shirt, maybe something thicker like a flannel. Since getting this, I have gone for 1-3 mile walks in the morning when it's 28-35 degrees F outside and a bit breezy, and when wearing a beanie, I actually overheat wearing this thing and start to sweat. It's exceptional for keeping you warm and comfortable without any other layers as long as you do not plan on getting wet. Cons: Not waterproof or water resistant in the slightest. Not very many pockets, just the hand pockets and one small internal zipper pocket.
