Great for local trips

I bought this to transport a 10-foot kayak on my extended-cab pickup. It’s quick and easy to install, and worked fine to carry my boat home from REI some 20 miles away. I purposefully took the scenic route with plenty of hairpin twists and turns to see what happened. The carrier stayed in place. My boat shifted a little, but my tie down probably needs work. It definitely wasn’t in any danger of going anywhere. You will need to buy tie-down straps separately. This is ideal for me transporting my kayak to the local lake for weekend paddles.

Caution using this rack

I bought this to carry a SUP/Foil Board which is 7.4 feet long. My test trial was on a four hour trip down the highway going 70mph. Upon arival the SUP had shifted on the rack by about 3-4 inches and the straps holding the soft rack had started to come loose. Personally I would not trust this on a long trip at highway speeds. I returned it. If this was only being used around town and on short trips it would be ok.

Perfect for cars

I bought a 14.5 ft. canoe and needed to transport it from the store. All I have is a car. I bought these and installed them in less than 5 mins. They stayed on and had no problems getting them home. They come off in less than a minute too. The only drawback is you have to buy ratcheting tie downs separately. Otherwise I love it.
