Good value for price point
I bought this Adventure Neo e-bike from REI couple weeks ago. Great setup on bike was ready roll. Tested it out over 20+ miles varied terrain (road n easy trails) with good performance. About 20 miles is also all I got out of a full charge using mostly 1-2 power levels with a few 4-5s for hill climbing. Steep hills you still have to peddle I think but makes it way easier. I’m 65 got a sore knee so this is my ride for Burning Man! Only negs are digital display and controller shown above in listing DO NOT come with this bike, instead an integrated smaller Bafang display/controller are mounted next to left hand grip fyi. I got large model as I’m 6’2. Also rear fender mounts are solid wire with plastic end caps that fall off, leaving ends sticking out past fender when loose that could injure you fyi. Could be a better design imh engineer opinion. Overall compared to stripper or higher $$ e-bikes I thought this a good value for occasional to moderate user. Class 2 20mph top speed. Buy it at REI get 2 years free service and 20% disc on future parts n service 😎
Great E bike but was missing front rack
Just purchased this bike from REI few days ago seems well built. Only problem was REI website advertises this model with front and rear racks and mine came missing front one. Calls to REI and Cannondale resolved problem it is NOT originally included by C but REI agreed to order and install it for me as it costs $170! So if you buy from REI insist on front rack be supplied or your out $170 plus shipping FYI. Also buying from REI gets you 2 years free maintenance and service, plus 20% off parts good deal
Enjoyable bike overall, but on worthless rubber
DO NOT PLAN ON RIDING THIS BIKE WITH THE EXISTING TIRES/TUBES. My rating could improve over time, but I am still a little frosted at the quality of the tubes and tires that come stock on the bike. Either Cannondale should sell this bike with better rubber on it, and/or REI should add a few dollars and replace the stock rubber before rolling them out of the store. I have ridden it three times for a total of less than 30 miles, on paved surfaces, and have already flatted both tires. The second one made me late for work. A bike that is seems to be outfitted and sold as a commuter or possibly even off-road option really should have more durable tires and/or tubes. Having said all that, I do like the fit of the bike. I am a bigger guy, and the wider handlebars fit me better than most others I tried. The motor does a great job of flattening the hills between home and work. The center of gravity feels stable, too. Battery life seems pretty good so far - the 14 mi round trip to work in the highest setting barely made a dent in the battery. I wish they would have put a little higher quality pedals on it. I'd like to add clips or a power strap, but the inexpensive platform doesn't allow it.
Great Service
Bought two of these bikes and I’m super happy with them. The service from REI was second to none and very helpful and friendly. I’d recommend them to anyone.
Just starting in E bikes
Moving from a regular hybrid bicycle to an E bike was forced by age and joints that resist long trips, or make me pay for them. I found the Cannondale adventure neo to be an ideal introduction to the E bike experience. I live in the Northeast so the weather has not been too cooperative this winter however I do find that 6 to 10 miles is easily done and I have no pain. What is somewhat difficult to get used to is the weight of the bike, and the power that it has. I have rarely find I am beyond level one, and only occasionally use the thruster. To be honest the electronics are simple and easy to comprehend and I don’t need the sophisticated apps that often come with these bicycles. The staff at REI was most helpful and quickly fixed a software issue, they were a pleasure to work with. I’ll try to remember to review this in a year unseasonable weather will provide an opportunity for wider use.
Great value, minor issues
I'll start with everything I love about this bike. First, it's budget friendly for those of us who don't have several thousand to drop on an e-bike. This was one of the cheaper options available to me when I was looking for a bike, and it doesn't disappoint. I use it for commuting daily to a university, and I feel like it stacks up well to the more expensive e-bikes I see around campus. Second, the power and battery life on this bike is perfect for commuting. I ride about 30-40 miles a week, usually on the three lowest settings, and I only need to charge it once or twice a week. Third, it still feels like you're riding a bike. Maybe this isn't a plus for everyone, but the whole reason I got an e-bike is because I have mobility issues that made it too difficult to ride a good ol' analog bike anymore. However, I still wanted the experience of biking. This bike still requires you to pedal in order for it to go forward but removes the resistance that you get when pedaling a regular bike in higher gear. Going up hills requires max power and downshifting (for me, at least), but it's still significantly easier. Now for some of the downsides. It doesn't seem to be the best made bike. After a year of riding, I've had to replace both screws holding the digital display in place, one of the screws holding the silver wire thing that connects to the front wheel, and another screw whose function remains a mystery to me. On cold mornings, the digital display is sluggish and can be difficult to read and doesn't improve while riding. If you're coming down a hill and gain speed, it takes the pedal assist a bit to kick back in once you slow down. The throttle/accelerator doesn't work during this time either. However, after a year riding on gravel, dirt, and pothole riddled roads, I have never had a problem with the tires.
