Sizing Notes

For boots: Add one half size to your street shoe size. You should be able to slip one finger behind your heel when you are standing up with the boot unlaced and your toes touching the front. If the boot is too short, your toes will get smashed walking downhill. Too long and your heel will slide up and down and give you blisters.

Fantastic boots, check your sizing though

This is an excellent boot in many ways and I would be giving it 4.5 stars if the option was there, but a couple things hold it short of 5 stars. Pros: It's very comfortable and feels nice and secure on my feet, even when I don't tighten the inner cord all the way, in fact it feels even better when it's not completely tight. The traction is fantastic on loose gravel and snow / rocks mix. If might be something that others may knock a point for, but I found these boots to be only somewhat warm with thin-medium pack socks which was a rather pleasant surprise, because it meant my feet weren't getting super sweaty, and that is a plus. They are also stylish so I look good when I'm trying to catch my breath, haha! Cons: They are sized pretty small. My normal La Sportiva trailrunners are sized 42 EU and I bought those in 42.5 EU to leave some room for thicker socks and that room does not exist. In fact, I'm fairly sure that the 42.5 EU Speed GTX boots are fractionally smaller that my 42 Akyra shoes. Size them up a bit bigger if you need the room.

Awesome

Used them on one 13er and a 14er in the Rockies. Temps are around 15-20 F. I used toe warmers but don’t think I really needed them. Don’t expect to do 15below 0 with these boots but as an approach boot or summit boot for temps like above, will work great and they are light. They are not to stiff so not a real B3 or even B2 boot. Has a little flex so I’d say it’s a great summer/spring boot. Was surprisingly warm but again not super warm. The gator is amazing. Potholed for miles going in 3 feet at a time and feet were dry, warm and not a drop of snow/water inside. Highly recommend but if temps drop below 10 F. you will need toe warmers or a warmer boot. Not everyone will like the flex but makes long approaches easier.

Wanted to love it, but ran into a few issues.

Man, I really wanted to like these boots but I ran into a few issues: - The tongue pad kept moving around, forcing me to unzip and unlace and pull it back it where it needs to go. Otherwise the very thin lace would dig deep into the top of my foot. - I felt like sizing up that the other folks here recommended was a bad idea. I went up one size for my normal shoe size and it was WAY too big. Especially in crampons there was basically no structure to the boot anymore. Please try these on in person if possible. Not sure if this caused the heel rubbing but it was uncomfortable. - The lacing system is annoying, it would constantly lose a little bit of tension requiring me to have to tighten up multiple times throughout a climb or hike. - Stuffing the lace into the boot just seems like such a bad solution. It shows and imprint on the outside and also, more importantly, it makes just trying to zip the gaiter down to vent the heat out a lot harder. Eventually the laces will come out of the zip if you're moving enough. I realllllly wanted to love this boot but I'll be returning it.

Excellent

My favorite mountaineering boots for day trips in temperatures down to about 10F or -12C. They are a great balance of light, mobile, and warm enough. I have zero problems with them, they are great for their use purposes. Some highlights: -Comfortable -Nice on hot days compared to a heavier boot -Convenient for travel considering they are smaller than conventional mountaineering boots and easier to pack. Same goes for if you are storing them on your pack while hiking. - Can add a warmer insole and overboot and take them into colder temps. It's nice how versatile that is
