Great shoe! So bought 2 more pair
Great barefoot shoe for trail running and just everyday living. Normally a 10 but went 10 1/2, and still not sure if that was too much of a size up. The 10 seemed a tiny bit too small, so I went up. Seems to fit well.
Soles wearing out fast
These shoes are super comfy and I was rally excited about using them as day hikers and casual off-road runners, but I've barely warn them 10 times and the soles are already wearing out. At this point, they will not even last a month worth of wear. Was hoping for a lot more from a brand that I usually have a lot of confidence in.
They do not last at all. VERY weak threading.
I tried to get into this barefoot hysteria, but my feet were having none of it after 30+ miles. So now they are destined to become house slippers. I forded creeks and slammed them into jagged sharp rock without a single complaint, the soles are great. The tread has held up admirably but the threads holding the laces have already begun to fall apart. My right shoe threads are literally falling apart in multiple areas. I would not recommend these to anyone wishing more than a month of use. I bought these at a Merrell store near me a month ago and might try to do an exchange. Junk.
Great fit, didn’t hold up
I have been wearing Merrell barefoot shoes as my daily shoes for years. These Trail Glove 7 shoes are comfortable, and for my feet fit like other generations of the Trail Glove. But I have never had a pair of shoes where the tread has worn out so quickly. I have had them just over two months and the tread at the back of the shoe has already worn smooth. And under the ball of the foot is not far behind. I have not used these for running, just everyday activities & walking. I know there are other reviews here with the same issue. Something about the tread on these just isn’t durable.
Manufacturing defects- glue issues with sole.
Manufacturing defects with the application of the sole to the shoe. I reached out to Merrell directly assuming that they would want to know but it doesn't seem like that was the case. I can still use them however these are black on black shoes so the misalignment of the sole and excess glue shoes on the shoe. This is the first issue that I have with this brand however the lack of interest in a manufacture defect is surprising. I don't want REI to foot the bill if I return these since it wasn't thier problem.
Trail Glove 7 comfort and performance
The Trail Glove 7 is the perfect hiking shoe for warm weather outings on any terrain. Just hiked Diamond Head Summit Trail in Honolulu, Hi. Path was a mix of pavement, dirt and stone steps. Really pleased with the cushion feel and the traction even on the damp surface of a pop up shower. Love the lighter weight.
Room for improvement
Great minimalist shoe but short lifespan. Merrell needs to change the tread pattern to a design that won’t wear off so fast. The current design is grippy but wears to bald very fast which is frustrating given the price. Also every pair of trail gloves I have owned have had issues with the rubber sole edges peeling away from the fabric shoe box after a couple days of wearing. Maybe needs a stronger adhesive used. I still keep buying the Trail gloves because it’s the type of shoe I prefer to wear, but Meryl has room for improvement for the Trail Glove 8 version.
Great shoes with a caveat
Awesome shoes! Big upgrade from the TG6. Wider, less arch support, and they look better. They are my go to shoe for walking and some trail running. The zero drop and cushioning is perfect for longer days on the feet or some technical trails. They could be a little bit wider but they also hug your foot nicely and have a wide toe box. The only issue is the tread durability. Unfortunately, I have worn down the sole in like 6 months, resulting in bad traction is wet or looser conidtions. The rest of the shoe is in perfect condition. If the sole was stronger this would be a perfect shoe that would last a long time. Hopefully Merrell can correect this with the TG8!!
Bought Another Pair
Honestly a lot of ppl had negative things to say and maybe that’s true compared to the previous models but these are awesome. I have several pairs of Merrells and these are my favorite. Minimal, breathable, just enough padding. I wear them daily because they allow my feet to breathe. They also feel great. I bought a black pair for work. I haven’t ran in them but they could definitely do that on some trails. I use the MTL Skyfire 2s for trail running. Great for gym. I give them 5/5.
Better than TG6
I've tried both TG6 and this one, and I have to say I like this one better. However, I have noticed that the outsole doesn't seem to last as long as I would like. Additionally, I found that they run a bit large, so I had to go down half a size to get the right fit. Overall, I think these shoes are good, but I really wish they would bring back TG4. Those were hands down the best shoes I've ever owned.
