How we measure bikes

  1. Standover Height Standover Height is a measurement from the ground to the top of the top tube, measured at the midpoint of the top tube.
  2. Reach Reach is the horizontal distance from the center of the cranks to the center of the head tube, measured at head tube level.
  3. Stack Stack is the vertical distance from the center of the cranks to the center of the head tube, measured to the top of the head tube.
  4. Effective Top Tube Effective top tube is the distance from the center of the head tube to the center of the seat tube/seat post, measured parallel to the ground.
  5. Seat Tube Center to Top Seat Tube length is the measurement of the seat tube, from the center of the cranks to the top of the seat tube.
  6. Head Tube Length Head Tube Length is measured from the bottom to the top of the head tube.
  7. Head Tube Angle Head Tube Angle is the acute angle between the head tube and the ground (measured towards the rear of the bike)
  8. Seat Tube Angle Seat Tube Angle is the acute angle between the seat tube and the ground (measured towards the rear of the bike).
  9. Bottom Bracket Height Bottom Bracket Height is a measurement taken vertically from the ground up to the center of the cranks.
  10. Wheelbase Wheelbase is the measurement from the center of the front axle to the center of the rear axle.

Great Entry Level Bike

It took me a long time to decide on this bike as it was my first MTB bike and I wanted to get something that would allow me to do lots without breaking the bank. Here are the features that make this bike awesome: 1. 1x drive train is easy to shift and cuts down on complicated shifting. It climbs well and gets up to speed nicely. I have however found a climb where a lower gear would have been nice, and I have also reached a speed where a higher gear would have been nice, but neither of these speak badly on the drivetrain, they just speak to what it should be used for. Its and entry level MTB with commuting potential. 2. The headtube is a tapered head tube meaning you can replace the fork with a nice fork in the future. (ie 120mm air fork) 3. The wiring is routed through the down tube! clean look. It also has an access hole for the addition of a dropper post in the future (great opportunity for upgrade just like the head tube). 4. Hydraulic disk brakes are the standard for MTB now, and as a bigger guy I did not want to risk riding anything without them. 5. 29er wheels that help you soak up bumps, pick up speed, and get over the gnarly terrain. Here is how this bike rides (from a beginner's perspective): I have had a lot of fun with this bike so far. It has been able to handle the rocky technical terrain of the lunch loops trail head in GJ while also tackling the flowy tracks of the north Fruita dessert. This bike is a hard tail, so it is a choppier ride when you hit the chunk, but what it loses in suspension it makes up for in its ability to put the power down and climb some pretty steep stuff. The bike is responsive and easy to handle. The shifting is seamless and quite satisfying. The brakes do their job well and allow for nice modulation especially on techy downhills. It can feel a bit sketchy when punching it around loose corners as the WTB ranger tires that come with the bike have less aggressive lugs. Things to think about before buying this bike: 1. the wheel width of the wheels that come with this bike are 19mm which is rather narrow and limits you to tire widths of about 2.3in at the most. But there are good 2.3 tire options out there. 2. The suspension fork is on the smaller side and lacks the performance of an air fork. 3. The pedals are plastic (including the lugs that hold your feet on). The lugs of my pedals broke off on the first technical ride I had. Strongly consider replacing these right away with pedals that have metal lugs) 4. The disc brake rotors are not too large. (They seem to do the job for me, but I haven't taken this bike to a downhill park yet). All in all, I love this bike so far. The price is low (in the world of mountain bikes sheesh). It gives you everything you need to start tackling your local trials while offering the upgradability for the future as your skills and needs progress. I have had a lot of fun planning the upgrades and color schemes I plan to make to this bike.
