Coolness Energizes Dog! Try 2 Sizes
After trying XL and then L for our GSD w a 34 in girth, I kept the L that fits perfect. Adjusting the straps helped the chest panel to fit comfortably snug and transfer the coolness. He even had zoomies back and forth at one point. It may evaporate on top, but underneath stayed wet and cool. Saturate it again at the creek or something. Easy to put on over head, adjust straps on sides. (Fit him better than the zipped thin version which extended to his abdomen and he urinated in.) Try 2 sizes to find right fit. Should be snug not loose or squished tight, for comfort and feel the coolness. It's bulkiness was not noticeable in the smaller size I chose. Energized him!
Cooling, cute, good for everyday use
I used this vest on a 40lb blue heeler in the high desert and backwoods in May. This vest was bullet than expected when it arrived, but is cute and fit very well. Its design also didn’t chafe and covers the whole back. I do wish it went a bit high on the back of the neck. It stays damp for quite awhile and was very effective for keeping my dog cool in the sun. Temperatures reached about 85 degrees. In the backwoods, it was harder to use since it does dry out and requires stopping for water. Also, it is hard to get completely clean since the design can trap dirt. Overall, I’m super excited to continue using this throughout the summer and I know my dog is too!
Necessary for hiking in the heat!
This was an awesome purchase! I bought two of those (the other is the sage color) for my two Airedales before we went to Twisp, WA in early July. Because it was Twisp in the summer = HOT!!! The dogs LOVED wearing them because it meant that we were going hiking! They fit so nicely - the sizing chart is spot-on and the side buckles are situated between two pieces of fabric so no rubbing on the dog’s flank.
Great fit for my furry friend
This Swamp Cooler vest fit my furry little friend well, size XS. Didn't fully soak the vest since it didn't quite hit summer heat yet, but she wore it like a champ. If there's one thing to improve upon, the leash passthrough didn't seem very useful on a small size, but may work better with a bigger dog. The leash loop was a bit thick to attach directly. If there were something that could make it a bit narrower, it would have been more convenient to attach her leash. Stay safe in hot temps. Don't forget about our little companions.
Good quality
Pros: Well made product: great material, strong straps. Fit dog well (used their sizing guidelines). Large 85 pound black dog. Hates water (steps over puddles) tolerates the vest. Now in second season of use (20+ uses so far) Considerations: To be honest, it's unclear if it actually cools him. White vest reflects the sun s logically it should be cooler. He still pants a lot on a hot day, suggesting he is trying to cool himself down. The pictures of using a nalgene bottle to re-hydrate the vest are a joke. On a 90 degree day you would be carrying 4 of these bottles just to rehydrate the vest because it dries out every 90 minutes (plus water for yourself and the dog to drink). Much better to plan your hikes to cross streams and dunk it.
Size
excellent quality. I got a XL for my 2 year old black lab weighing roughly 75 pounds (very average sized labrador) and it was way too long and big so exchanging it for a L
Excellent!
This thing makes a huge difference. Our little puppies hates sun and heat and this makes all the difference in getting her out in Denver. I honestly didn't have the highest expectations but was pleasantly surprised. Rosie is a 27# doodle and small is a tad big, XS was not big enough.
Great Cooling Vests!
These vests work so well to help our dogs stay cool when it’s hot out. We have two mini Aussies with dark coats and they both struggle with the Sacramento heat. We pour cold water on the vests & then put them on the dogs whenever we take them out in the sun & heat. Our dogs remain significantly cooler with the vests on. They are easy to put on & look cool too. Very happy with these vests. Size small - our dogs are 38ish pounds
perfect for hot summer walks
We worry about our two mini schnauzers during the PNW heat waves. It’s 105 today and the doggies are cool and not panting as we go for walks under the trees! We talk water with us to re hydrate their vests. These things stay cool to the touch. Our 10 lb girl wears an XXS and our 18 lb boy wears an XS.
Actually Works
I notice my dog’s panting drops by 80% when she wears this vest in the summer. I soak the vest in a bag of ice water to charge it.
