Good for car camping or at home.

I surprisingly enjoyed using this. I wasn't sure what to expect with a portable griddle. I enjoyed using it to make multiple dinners. The food turned out well and cooked perfectly. I can see it being really handy in the summer when I don't want to cook inside the house. I didn't have any trouble cleaning it or seasoning it. There was a large flame coming out of the left side burner where it meets the metal frame. I don't know if thats supposed to happen or if it was just mine. I find it a little hard to move around on my own. I was able to break it down so it was flat and wheel it but I was not able to pick it up on my own to load it in the car or up multiple steps. It is pretty long, it takes up the entire width of the trunk of my Subaru Outback. I will most likely use it for car camping and at home the most.

Too many defects and not a competitive option

The Coleman RoadTrip Grills are historically widely popular and great quality. I wanted to test out the griddle with a cast iron surface. Unfortunately, I received a product with manufacturer defects. The screws securing the hinges keeping the lid in place were either warped or missing. Additionally, my griddle also slants down to the left and I cannot find a way to adjust it to sit evenly. Nonetheless, I replaced the missing screws with #6 machine screws and fired it up a few times to test it out. Pros: - I was impressed with the heat and even distribution of the griddle. - I cook mainly on cast iron already and seasoned this griddle before first use (e.g. light spread of oil and let it burn off); however, it didn't seem to need it. It was already quite well-seasoned and nonstick. Absolutely no sticking occurred. - Clean up was super easy - with a wet cotton dish cloth and surface still hot, I was able to swipe up the food remains and juices quickly. - Lots of burner distribution underneath the griddle for wide cooking area. - Even as a smaller female, I can pick this up and put into my car even though the cast iron griddle is heavy. Cons: - Some quality control issues from manufacturer. Considering the price of this - might be a risk when purchasing. - Set up was a complete pain. The screws and assembly parts seem to be made of cheaper metals. - the slant causes juices to run down to the left, and not out the back and into the drip pan. - might be too heavy for some to pick up and take in and out of the car. - I am not sure if you'll be able to swap out the griddle for a grill surface like you can with the versatility of the RoadTrip Grills. The grills have drip pans underneath the burners... This one does not. It seems to be built for only a griddle surface. From my perspective, this item is not a competitive option. - In general, things cooked up pretty fast, but unfortunately didn't develop a crispy surface texture that I prefer over burners. Everything was just softer and juicier. I also tried cooking frozen fish which the instructions said would be possible, but it took much longer than expected and ended up too dry. Could just be my cooking skills, but the textures were not what I expected.

Griddle is great, mobility is not

The griddle itself works great. The burners underneath are well positioned and the entire griddle heats up pretty evenly. Connecting small propane canisters is relatively easy (though I had some trouble with matching threads when screwing them in) and if one goes empty in the middle of a cook they're pretty quick and easy to swap and reignite the burners. The legs are sturdy for being collapsible and the griddle space is nice and big. But calling this a campsite griddle is being generous, in my opinion. It weighs over 70 lbs! When collapsed, you pull it like airport luggage. However, in a "camping" environment, it's massive weight makes the plastic wheels bang over any small bump and rattle anything that can rattle. And there's no easy way to lift this into your vehicle - it's weight and design almost necessitates you need two able bodied people. You also need lots of space in your vehicle because this thing is long and the metal can dent easy. The cleanup requires a bit of work. You need to scrape up all the scraps, burn it all off on high if you can't get it all (wasting portable bottle fuel), clean the whole griddle with a rag (papertowls leave tons of lint), then apply a "finishing" oil to maintain it similar to maintaining a cast iron pan. Patience required. You need to be one dedicated griddle cook to take this on-the-go with your griddle tool set, food ingredients and coolers, oils, rags and cleaning supplies and then go through the necessary cleaning steps after every use. The only thing portable about this is the legs collapse and it takes portable propane. But it's size, weight, lack of counter space, and the process and components required to use and maintain a griddle just do not equate to this being a good road companion. If anything, better to wheel it from your shed to your deck and back, in my opinion, but there are better non-travel options for that.

The best road trip accessory ever

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I can't get enough of my Coleman Roadtrip Griddle XLT. The quality of this let's me know it will last for years if I properly maintain it. I've made steaks, bacon, pork chops, eggs, and pancakes. Its folding feature makes it easy to put up, and grab quickly when it's purpose is desired.

Needs engineering help

Looks like it should work well. However, assembly was a bit of a disappointment. First, the griddle is off level by about 1.5 inches. I'll be able to fix that with some wood. Looks like the legs with the feet are a bit too long. The lever to lock the wheels is off by about 1/2 and inch, it should be higher on the leg to properly engage. I'll be able to run a new hole in the leg and get it aligned but that should be correct from the beginning. Oh, and the leg lock was originally installed on the wrong side and had to be moved to the correct leg. Otherwise assembly was fine. The cooking surface is sturdy and looks good. Recommend? Maybe.. lets see how it cooks but I'll have to say yes below b/c there is no maybe button.

Problems right out of the box

Purchased new in box, but must have been dropped because the lid was warped, one side of rivets were in and the other side were not. The latch will not close on one side due to the warped lid. There is some rust already on the top edge of the griddle. Not sure how long it will last.

Not worth the money

Got as a gift. The box was slightly damaged, the right side would not ignite. After using 3 times the right side knob melted so you can’t turn it on and off. Both hinges on the lid would not slow the lid to close right.

Amazing Game Changer

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] If I could give it 10 stars I would. This thing is so great so many reasons. First its easy to set up but also folds and has wheels so it's never in the way. And cooking on it, flawless. It has even heat all over. Nothing sticks to the flat top. We absolutely love it for lunch, dinners and especially breakfast burritos. It does use the little green cans so make sure you have a few to start because you will go through them. Excellent road trip griddle. Could not be happier!

Works great

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Coleman Road-trip griddle is a good choice when looking for a griddle, I love mine! I got it to take it camping or to the park, to the lake everywhere. Out of the box it was simple to assemble. Love how it’s small when folded up, it’s simple to clean and simple to use. Just remember always clean after every use, it’s easy to keep clean that way. The stainless steel top makes it simple. I like making taco meat, it’s like buying them from a taco truck vendor. It’s made to last with some care. The fuel tanks are sold everywhere like gas stations. I definitely highly recommend this item, I love it!

Trash

Who did the quality check on this design? That person needs to be fired. This griddle is trash! A half @ attempt on a portable griddle. 1st off, the version that I received did not have the proper holes for the stand to align so that the griddle is balanced, it was tipping to the left. A propane cylinder is not enough to cook anything on this, so I had to buy a $40 adapter to use the regular size propane tanks. You have to walk around the griddle just to empty the grease catcher. I burnt my man fingers a few times, because the grease catcher is not ergonomic. I had to bunch up my potatoes in the middle of the griddle since it was the only place where the food cooked. This griddle is so awkward to handle when transporting because there aren't any proper handles to carry this on to your trunk. Will be returning this for a full refund.
