Perfect for phone and gel storage
My son is T1 diabetic and also a cross country and track runner for his high school varsity team. These are the only shorts we have been able to find that provide a space for him to put his phone and energy gel packets securely within the shorts. they are the only shorts he wears now. He has been able to get rid of his cumbersome running belt because the shorts provide all the storage options he needs. He also says they are very comfortable and lightweight. Please don’t ever stop making the shorts. because we need to buy so many of them, I just wish they were at a lower price point. As a high school teenager, he wishes that there were more color options that had less design in them. He prefers the plain colors.
Great feel, incredible material especially the flat waist. Wasit fits slightly large/loose, but nothing that cant be tightened comfortably. I hardly notice that they are there. Very functional, great storage for long runs. Just for fun I saw how many gels would fit and I got about 6 (4 huma and 2 GU's). Would've given a higher rating but there are a few improvements that can be made. The worst is the drawstring, it is very hard to get a snug fit without losing tension when making a knot. Also my iphone 8 barely fits in the back pocket so if you have anything larger I wouldn't count on it fitting. Last is the liner rides up a bit, and doesn't stay in place.
Worth the investment!
I am a big fan of the Brooks Sherpa shorts and now own 3 pairs. I run ultras and figuring out gear that is comfortable all day on the trails is a big priority for me. The Sherpa shorts fit perfectly, dry very quickly and wick away moisture nicely. Overall, I have had zero issues with wear, fit, or comfort nor do I have any issues with rubbing or chafing. The pockets are handy for a couple of gels or other small (lighter) item. You do have to be aware that items in the pockets could create hot spots for longer events. Not a fault of the shorts by no means. I tend to be frugal when it comes to clothing but this is a very solid investment in a great running short.
Excellent Running Shorts
I had Nike and Lululemon running shorts before I got these. I am always wanting to try new brands of running shorts to see which kind I like the best. These are better than all my other running shorts. The fabric is light, the pockets are great to hold your phone and car keys, and (the best part) they do not show sweat stains. My only complaint is the elastic waistband is a little awkward when tied, but that is not a big problem. I usually prefer to buy 2in1 running shorts, but I just wear compression underwear and it feels the same. I will definitely be sticking to Brooks running shorts for now on.
Good, really good, but $$$ with some tradeoffs
super comfy - really gets you all tucked in. You will have to use some glide or other running lubricant if you don't want a rash on occasion, but I have frequently done 1-hour-plus runs over 8 miles and have been rash-free without using anything. However, rain or very hot days can change this. Pockets are awesome and will keep things nice and snug The only problem is the lining goes pretty quickly if you wash them after each run and sling them in the dryer. I know you should probably hand wash and line dry, but I am an American now and simply cannot bring myself to do such arduous tasks :) Anyway - very good shorts. Pockets - good pockets - makes them versatile for lots more than running.
Good construction, but some fit issues
I recently purchased the Sherpa 5 shorts and have mixed feelings. On the positive side, they're well-constructed with high-quality materials. The zippered pocket is a standout feature - it's generously sized and perfect for securely carrying essentials during a run. However, I've encountered an issue during use: the shorts tend to ride up along the inner thighs while running. This can be uncomfortable and requires frequent adjustment, which interrupts the flow of my workout. While the overall quality is there, this fit issue makes it difficult for me to fully recommend these shorts for running activities. They might work better for other types of exercise where this wouldn't be as much of an issue.
Brooks Sherpa 5” running shorts
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Great shorts. I was looking for an option to run the marathon and comfortably carry some gels with me. These were perfect, light weight and could easily fit in 5 gels without them bouncing around to much, 2 in each side pouch and one in the back. I found them a much better option than using a running belt. I usually wear medium or small in running shorts and in this model the small size fit perfectly so if your in between sizes go smaller. Excellent training/racing shorts if you need to take some items with you I Phone also fits nicely into the back pocket Great work Brooks
Poor quality
Had for 6 months. Wore maybe 10 times and pocket tore and reflector logo on all brooks shorts came off. Followed all washing and drying instructions.
The perfect running shorts
Great fit, comfortable and great for running. There are also plenty of pockets to store your phone, cards, gels etc.
Good for carrying a cell phone.
I was looking for shorts that allowed for me to carry a cell phone, for emergencies and tracking. These shorts have a zippered pocket that contains a smaller cell phone (iPhone 11) snugly--I'm not sure a newer, bigger one would fit. I noticed the phone when I started running, up against my lower back, but it didn't bounce around and I quickly forgot about it. Everything else was fine, although I wish there was a zippered pocket for a key fob: there's a loop, but that doesn't help unless you have some kind of clip on the fob. I worried it might fall out, but it didn't. Also: I wish there was a pocket I could put an ID card in; I like to carry some ID with me, just in case I pass out or something. You could just keep one with your phone though.
