My first pair of Hoka’s. Purchased for travel that included a lot of city walking but also some trail use. Surprisingly, I am very unimpressed. They were comfortable but not really more so than my prior brand. However, the traction is horrible! Even on wet sidewalks with no elevation change they are very very slippy to the point that I have to be on guard. It is terrible for uneven trail surfaces. I will never buy another pair. I won’t return them to REI because I wore them for a month of travel and I think it’s wrong to return at that point but boy, am I disappointed. I’m a huge hiker and these would be terrible on the trails in Washington. Dangerous. Even on the wet sidewalk, I think they are iffy.
These shoes make me so happy. Not only are they a bright and cheery color, but they fit extremely well and protect my feet on the trail. They are pretty lightweight, though notably heavier than my HOKA road running shoes, and they are very comfortable, even when worn all day. I do find the laces a tad more difficult to loosen than I would like, due to the design of the lacing holes, but not overall a deal-breaker. I've worn these on hikes and runs through the forest and while doing yard work and they have been comfortable throughout. They feel secure on my feet and that makes me feel stable and safe when running on uneven terrain. There's a slight bounce to the step, which is quite lovely when out on the trail, and I really like how they look on my feet, too--they aren't bulky or weird-shaped like some running shoes can be.
A great shoe for even the toughest trails. Love the stability and support and most of all the comfort.
My last shoes (Salomons) were really worn out, and I found that their new styles didn't work for me. I tried these Hoka's based on the feedback of a fellow customer in the shoe department, and like her, I love them! I typically wear a 7 1/2, but that size was unavailable, so I tried the 8's and found them to work fine, even though they're a little long. The cushioning is just perfect - not too soft or squishy in the sole, and the padding around the ankle opening really hugs my foot, while the toe box has plenty of room. They were comfy right out of the box, and my walking partner says I walk faster in them.
This is my 3rd pair of Hokas. I am a hairstylist and an avid hiker. These are the best things I've had on my feet. I have broken my ankle twice and have suffered wit PF in the past. These shoes give me the support I need, whether I'm cutting hair on concrete or climbing through a rock scramble hiking. I love these shoes!
Super comfortable! I took a job that involves walking and standing up to 7 hours a day on a concrete floor. I am 67 and was dubious that any shoe could prevent sore feet, knees, and legs in such circumstances. I’ve talked to many people with Hokas who love them, so gave them a try. Amazingly, after 4 days on the job, I am without pain or soreness of any kind. I chose this style of Hokas because the soles are less wide than some, which look like one could trip over them. I bought my usual size and they fit well. Very happy with purchase.
I purchased these because my Vasque hiking boots were on their last miles. I took a chance getting low shoes for long hikes but these are amazingly comfortable. I compare these fitting very closely to the Brooks running shoes but these run a little wider. I just hiked 20.7 miles in these recently and had no issues. Note: I was an avid runner, running ultras, marathons and half marathons and I'm taking a break from running. I do long 15+ mile hikes instead. These would be just as comfortable running in them too.
This summer I was nearly 1/3 through a plan to regain my health. I had changed my diet and began walking 5K at least six days per week. Then I realized that not only had my plantar fasciitis remained and would flare up, but I had developed osteoarthritis in both knees and was suddenly prone to blisters. I needed good shoes or I was never going to make it. These were it. Since I bought them I have been able to actually run again, and am still going out 6-7 days per week. Zero blisters. The knees rarely have pain. And almost no breaking in period. Highly recommend.
I purchased these shoes last fall after much research. I spent more on them than I would normally be willing to spend on a pair of shoes with the thought in mind that these should last me a while. They didn't. Less than a year later I need to either get them repaired, or replace them. I haven't worn them in about 2 months. I have had shoes costing 1/3 the price of these last more than double the amount of time these lasted. They are super comfortable, though I wish they breathed a little more. But they don't last very long for the price of the shoe.
This is my 3rd pair of Hokas! I have loved the first two pairs! They fit perfectly! This new pair is a little bit too narrow for me! I have been using thin socks to make up for the width issue. Bottom line, since I purchased these, I learned that the Hokas vary in width. That’s why I’m writing this review, to help others with wide feet not to order this particular Hoka.
