Not good on technical trails

I'm use to the speed goats on trails and in the mountains so thought I would give this higher cushion trail shoe a shot. It's terrible. It's clunky, very unstable on technical terrain and the heel has so much cushion that it actually made my Achilles sore that night. I only did 2 miles up with 2000 ft elevation gain and I stumbled on every bit of trail where the speed goats are generally amazing Not my favorite shoe for mountain running but probably great on trails that aren't technical and rocky

The most comfortable shoe I’ve ever worn

I’m a Hoka novice—first pair!—and have been running for more than 45 yrs. I’ve tried many brands and exclusively run trails now. This truly is the most comfortable shoe I’ve ever worn. My joints are grateful and don’t hurt, the cushion, bounce and propulsion are good. The grip is good but we’ll see how it goes during rainy/muddy season. I have high arched and wide forefeet. This shoe is wider than I would expect though perfect for me. The shoe drains better than most and dries quickly. My feet don’t get hot in them. For me, the problem with this shoe is the tongue—it’s too short esp if you use the last lace hole; the tongue slips toward the toes even using the tongue loop; the laces end up directly on top of the foot, which is uncomfortable. After the 3rd run and 40 miles and many adjustments, I managed a way to weave the laces to hold the tongue in place so it doesn’t slip at all. However, the pressure of the laces on top of my foot is still too noticeable so I will put something under the top laces next time. By the end of my runs, I have noticed bottom of heel discomfort, maybe my feet will adjust to the softer foam. All my shoes are in the moderate range of softness. I get good ground feel but I’ve been running in stiffer shoes for awhile. I love these. Hopefully the next version will fix the tongue issue. BTW, I bought these on Hoka’s site.
