I've been wearing Speedgoats for hiking for 6 years. I skipped the 6 and when I put these on, they felt so stiff. I've never needed to break in Hokas before, but I tried to see if maybe that was the issue. I wore them around the neighborhood a few times on walks and they hurt the top of my foot because they were so stiff. I wore them on a 4 mile hike and had to immediately change shoes after because they caused so much Achilles pain for me. Some of the paint started peeling off after only 10 miles. While it's only cosmetic, it's a bad sign. I'm sad to have to find a new trail runner to hike in after loving them for so many years.
I'm so excited about the Speedgoat 7's! I've been long distance trail running for 7 years and the Speedgoat 4's have been my holy grail of trail shoes. I've gone through 10 pair of them and stocked up on the old ones when the newer models came out because the 5's and 6's didn't fit me the same way. I have a low volume foot and have had a hard time finding other trail shoes that fit me well (I've tried about 4-5 other brands!). I read the the 7's were supposed to be more similar to the earlier Speedgoats, and this is my experience so far. I've only been out in them once, but they feel just like my old Speedgoat 4's. I'm so glad they came out just in time as I've finally worn through my last pair of the old 4's. Thank you Hoka!
Super happy with the SG 7's! Just the right amount of cushion, great rock protection underfoot without the weigt. Went with the same size as past models "D" Wide model instead of my normal B... this gave my forefoot the perfect amount extra toebox room my aggrevating bunion needed. I found the legnth to be true to size, of course this is a personal opinion.
Significantly stiffer and more rigid than the Speedgoat 3s and 6s, both of which I loved. My first few runs were pretty uncomfortable, especially when the weather was colder. The sole seems to be more dense, which helps with rock protection, but lacking that airy Hoka feel typical of the other speedgoat models. Have run about 50 miles in them so far and they are feeling a bit better, but probably going to need to track down another shoe for long day. I can’t envision ever running 10+ miles at a time in these.
I previously wore Hoka challengers and in the same size and in order to get the width to fit my foot, I had to pull the laces almost completely together on the top of the shoe. This is a much better fit, and a lower drop, which feels great to me.
I’ve been a huge fan of the speedgoats for years so when my beloved speedgoat 5s were nearing the end I decided to replace them with the speedgoat 7s. I ordered the same size that I had in the 5 (8 wide) and when they arrived they were a smidge too tight, which is totally fine, on the Hoka speedgoat 7 web page it actually recommends that you go up half a size fyi. I went in store and exchanged for an 8.5 wide and the fit was perfect. Today I took them out for a quick three mile hike and they already felt broken in! The cushion is way better than the 5s and my ankles feel more supported, the grip on the shoes is stellar. These truly are the perfect trail runner! My only complaint? The colors are absolute garbage! Hopefully Hoka continues to release more colors in the future and when they do I will buy a cuter pair to hold on to when the ones I’m wearing kick the bucket.
The Goats are indeed back! I read the reviews before ordering and I thought they were too good to be true. The shoes have definitely moved back to the 4s, and I couldn't be happier. I didn't notice any stiffness in the shoes I received. I can't wait to get back on the trails!
I've been wearing speedgoats for years and have love most models. These have a great fit, cushion, and shape, but somehow the material in this model barely breathes, making my feet so hot on runs. Wanted to love these, but the uppers are unbearably warm.
