These shoes are fairly comfortable, the soles have good cushioning and good traction, however after about a year of use the toe started separating from the leather on both shoes. Finally I just noticed there is now a hole between the leather and rubber on the toe. This was incredibly disappointing as i don't really even wear them regularly. I usually just wear them for hiking and on snowy/rainy days. also aren't really waterproof. I had Timberlands before this and could walk all day in the rain/snow and through small creeks and my feet would stay dry. Not so foe these boots. I wouldn't recommend these boots.
So, I liked the fit and comfort for close to a year. No real signs of major wear on the sole. The waterproofing worked as it should. I started wearing them daily to work for about 6 months. The rubber toe bumper started separating on the pinky side of my left foot. Upon looking closer I noticed that not only the rubber was separating but it some leather along with it. Now there is a hole in the toe and I no longer wear them. I bought these instead of Lowas. Should've stuck with the good stuff.
I have now had about 12 hours in these boots. I'm extremely impressed! The most impressive aspect of the boots has to be the breathability. I do a lot of hiking up and down steep trails, clearing trees, correcting erosion issues, etc. When you're doing that in North Georgia during the summer months, it is hot and humid. I was able to wear these boots for 8 hours the first time out and while my feet were warm, my socks never got wet and my toes were able to breathe. This is critical for what I do. The comfort level is outstanding. I actually wore these boots during a quick two-mile trail run and love them. Again, my feet were able to breath. I've also had some ankle rolling issues lately and these boots provide good support considering I already had some sensitivity. These boots have become my "got-to" outdoor footwear. The only negative about the boots would be the laces. I'm not a huge fan of the flat, thin laces and prefer a more robust, round lace. That's less of a negative and more of a preference. I plan to purchase the shoe version as well for more light-duty use. I'm a big fan and have been completely surprised that these boots have performed so well.
I tried many brands and styles of lightweight hiking boots in preparation for a trip to Sedona, AZ. My initial impression was that the boot was light, comfortable from the beginning, and seemed to be decent quality at its price point. I wore them regularly for a few weeks to break them in then we set out. I wore the Sypes regularly for 3 days and I wasn’t disappointed. They were supportive (6 ft, 235 so I need it ), handled the trails like a champ, provided good traction while scrambling and kept my feet dry while crossing creeks. My wife purchased pair of Oboz Sapphire Mids and they were outstanding as well for all the same reasons. We are hooked on Oboz now and look forward to putting in more time with them on the trails!
In March 2023, I was excited to have comfortable and durable boots from a B Corp that fit! I first tested them at a park with rocky and paved trails. They performed better at Marsh Creek in Pennsylvania and White Clay Creek in Delaware. However, on a hike at French Creek the sharp edge of a rock caught my left foot off guard and punctured the boot behind the toe guard! Thankfully, my toe was not cut and Injinji crew sock was not damaged! I have had a better experience with waterproof, ankle height trail running shoes in warm weather in similar terrain.
I really wanted to like these boots. There are several nice aspects to them: They're light, the forefoot is roomy, the fit is good, flat laces stay tied better than round laces, the hard toe rand does a nice job of protecting my toes, the traction is good. But the bottom line is that they simply are not durable boots. After one season of use, with less than 200 miles of use, the stitching fell apart, the leather cracked in multiple spots, and the rubber toe rand separated from the leather, allowing water to penetrate.
Very comfortable right out of the box. I wear men's size 12, and these were true to size. Virtually no break-in period was needed. I wore these around the house for a couple hours then took them straight on a 7 mile hike. Zero blisters or potential hot spots. The next weekend, I wore them to hike 4 consecutive 14ers (Decalibron) and was extremely pleased with their performance. After a strenuous 6-7 hr hike with 3300 ft of elevation gain over rugged terrain, these boots excelled. Zero blisters at the end of the hike. My feet were comfortable the entire time. Traction was fantastic. Even descending the scree-ridden Mt. Bross, my footing was secure and I didn't end up on my butt a single time. I crossed a couple creeks and didn't notice any water inside the boots. My feet don't sweat all that much, so wearing doubled up pairs of breathable socks was sufficient to keep moisture from building up on the inside of these waterproof boots. Wearing these around the house out of the box, I did notice my feet getting quite warm, which I would expect from a pair of waterproof boots. However, while hiking outside I didn't notice my feet getting overly hot. These are my second pair of Oboz, and I'm sold. The construction is solid, and I have seen no signs of significant wear. When the time comes, I will have no reservations in coming back to Oboz for a reliable and comfortable pair of hiking boots.
I bought this product due to the availability of wide sizes… Quality, however, is not up to any price paid. After using for one day, the toes begin to delaminate. I will be be returning.
Shoe fits and feels great. Very comfortable. I half sized up. I have several top of the line hiking boots and other Oboz. I wanted these as an everyday kick around town when it’s cold and rainy. Not intending to get them dirty on the trail. These look great with jeans or REI hiking pants. I jazzed mine up with red shoe laces.
I purchased these in a small mens size for myself (female) as I could not find anything like them for women. I was surprised at how comfortable they were/are and from the first try on to my initial hikes and just walks around the desert, I love them. They are actually stylish in the charcoal grey and I can wear them with leggings for my upcoming trip to England. The real test will be how well they do there in the wet conditions of Wales and Glastonbury.
