My husband and I love this chair. We use it everyday because we full time RV. I love the two cupholders and the armrests. The chair is very comfortable and light. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because when it is humid out the material stretches and you end up being able to feel the bar under your butt. When we are in dry climates that doesn't happen. Our goal was to find a lightweight chair with armrests and a tall back to lay your head. This fits the bill! It's pricy but we didn't find any other options out there. The customer service is fine with the company. But if you buy it at REI, you can return for any reason at any time.
I am 6 ft tall and weigh 250 and I find this chair to be very comfortable. I've used it as patio seating as well as camping. The back is high enough to act as a good-enough headrest if you slouch just a tiny bit. I haven't noticed any (permanently) bowing metal pieces. It assembles and disassemåbles quickly enough, under a minute once you're good at it. Great chair all around. I wouldn't backpack with it due to the packed size, but for car camping, it's awesome.
This is the only thing that I have ever paid for that is worth every dime spent. I don’t go without this chair. I’m amazed how I can sit on some amazing slopes or sit in angles I never thought possible. Really amazing.
Just got my Big Agnes Big Six Armchair and it exceeds expectations: lightweight, easy to assemble, and the high back and arms are welcome additions for the "chronologically gifted" camper or car camper. One request please: To raise the rating to 5 stars, provide some guidance (video, instruction sheet, etc.) on how to repack the chair to fit nicely in it's bag. Warning to anyone who purchases this phenomenal chair: Take photos as you unpack and unwrap the chair the very first time.
Seriously, if there is a more comfortable shock-cord-and-pole style chair out there, I've never even heard of it. My better half and I were among the first Alite Monarch pioneers many years (over a decade) ago and got heaps of strange looks back then (the low seated, two "leg" only variety - incredibly light/small, and ridiculously comfy). I've always loved these designs, which have exploded in the past 5 years. I think Alite has even left the business, but I'm not certain. Anyhow, at first there were a few others and REI produces their own line (one shown in the photo is their "Flexlite Camp Boss") and now every conceivable outdoor company as well as legions of Chinese knock-off brands are anywhere you look. I tried out quite a few full size, more regular seat height, packable options... some from REI, TravelChair and others. This Big Agnes was the winner, hands down. The level of attention to detail in the construction is like no other. Yes, it's a bit more complicated to assemble (the price of arm-rests) but it's very easy once you've done a couple times. It is not light or compact and should not be considered a backpacking chair by any stretch of the imagination.... Though if it were just a hike-in/base-camp/hike-out sort of excursion I would *absolutely* consider adding it to my pack. It's strength is literally it's *strength*... There are no pole hubs made of questionable composite material to degrade and eventually fail... it's all metal and the frame is ridiculously sturdy when assembled. The seams are double and VERY robust. Everything about this chair is quality. And did I mention it's comfortable? I set it up in the livingroom occasionally just to relax in it because my lower back loves this chair (and it hates more other outdoor chairs). We've had this one for about 3 years and I may get one more. Just a stellar piece of gear.
The Big Agnes folks have designed an amazingly comfortable, lightweight chair. BUT unless you know how to put it together already, it’s extremely frustrating to try to use. No instruction sheet. There is a brief online video how-to (searched and found online) but it is for the less complicated chair without arms and the video is just too lacking in detail. There ARE brief instructions that come with the chair, but they are printed on the INSIDE OF THE CASE for the chair...great that you will not lose them, but not great if you don’t know that’s where they are.
Easy and quick to assemble—if you can get your tent together, you can do this. Super sturdy and comfortable. The two large cup holders are fantastic, holds a variety of cup sizes easily. The extra height on the headrest is everything my old camp chairs were missing to provide maximum comfort. Small, breaks down fast, easy to pack!
The chair is great for base camping and I use it for the beach too. Easy to carry, easy to assemble and very comfortable to sit in. The price is a little steep but the chair is definitely the best camping/ folding chair I have ever had.
